  Family History Researcher	Thanks Jay. Your question is a good one. As you may know, the absence of the pre-1901 Ireland census records makes things difficult. There are several things that together add up to the case that Andrew was the brother of James Maloney. There were two other brothers that are important. They were Bartholomew Maloney and Richard Maloney. The British Isles Vital Records index contains an entry for Bartholomew Mullowney, born in 1869 to Peter Mullowney & Mary Hynes in Hollymount, Mayo, Ireland. (My grandfather's birth certificate also used this spelling of Maloney name). Bartholomew was a miner in Utah. I have two living aunts that remember him from their childhood. They knew him as uncle Bartley. My aunts also remembered another "uncle Dick" from their childhood. This was Richard Maloney. So I knew that there were at least 3 Maloney brothers, James, Bartley, and Richard. Also, I know that their parents could be the Peter Mullowney & Mary Hynes. From the 1901 Ireland census, I knew that the mother's first name was indeed Mary. Mary was, of course, a very common name, but at lease it didn't contradict the other info. With a bit of luck, I happened to see in inquiry on a message board from someone named Michael Elston seeking information about descendants of Peter Maloney & Mary Hynes. It caught my eye because I remember the names from the British Isles Record for Bart. Maloney. In subsequent email exchanges, he sent me a summary of one of the old letters in his possession. I'm not sure exactly who is was from, but it was to his great grandmother. The letter described the members of the Peter Maloney/Mary Hynes family. The letter mentions Andrew who "immigrated to Wisconsin and had 7 children", Thomas, who is "buried in Omaha, Nebraska", Richard who was "last known to be in Salt Lake City", James, who "lived and died in Hollymount", and Bartholomew, who "was called Bartley and died in Salt Lake City". The correct information in the letter about the 3 Maloney brothers that were known by the family in Utah was strong enough for me to believe the rest of the information about the other Maloney that lived in Wisconsin & Nebraska. I have asked for a copy of the letter, but have not received one yet. Mike M.
