  Harold Richard Marty, 68, of Pelican Rapids, died on Monday, October 30, 2006, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. Harold, son of Leo and Margaret (Bouressa) Marty, was born March 15, 1938, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He attended school in the state of Washington, Fergus Falls and Pelican Rapids, graduating from high school at Pelican Rapids. He worked at the Pelican Press while attending college and earning a degree in education at Minnesota State University Moorhead.On June 18, 1960 Harold married Mary Dullea in Georgetown. He taught high school social studies, history and business education as well as coaching high school basketball in Pembina and Portland, North Dakota. In 1970 Harold's family purchased his parents' grain and livestock farm near Pelican Rapids, where they raised their children. Harold continued to operate and participate in the family farm with Mary and their son Mike. Harold served as Clerk for Norwegian Grove Township for over 22 years, served as Regional Director for Lake Region Electric Association, enjoyed driving school bus for Christianson Bus Service for over 16 years, served on the original Buffalo/Red River Watershed board, and substitute taught at the local high school. Harold enthusiastically participated in local and regional politics and citizens' groups. Harold was a member of St. Leonard's Catholic church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading, fishing, gardening and farming with his family. Harold is survived by his wife Mary; three sons: Harold Patrick (Julie) of Peachtree City, Georgia, Mike of Pelican Rapids and Tony of Fargo, ND; four daughters: Kathy (Randy) Josephson and Maggie (Brad) Johnson of Pelican Rapids, Mary (Brian) Norberg of Dilworth, and Jeanne (Bob) Gettel of Minneapolis; sixteen grandchildren: two sisters: Margaret Ringquist of Fergus Falls, and Sharon (Kent) Gowers of Utah; 5 brothers: Leo (Mary Lou) of Littlefork, James (Janice) of Pelican Rapids, Roger (Christa) of Texas, Gene of Fergus Falls and David of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.His parents preceded him in death.
