The information that I have on the Sas fami ly is limited to only a few names and dates: Lambert Sas married "Mary An n" in Holland. They had a daughter, Anna Mary Sas, born in Dreumel, Holla nd on January 22, 1837 and died in Freedom, WI on October 14, 1902. Anna M ary married John Vandenberg, who was born in Holland on December 8, 181 5, and died on July 2, 1889 in Freedom, WI. They are buried in St. Nichol as Cemetery, Freedom, WI, near the road. The markers are well weathere d. My oldest sister told me years ago that a Vandenberg relative used to p aint black paint on the lettering on these stones, but he has since pass ed away. Bits of the black paint are still visible. Sas means "To be in g ood humor" in the Dutch language. John and Anna Mary are my great grand parents. Their daughter, Anna Vandenberg, married John Ebben.
