  Family History Researcher	EMAIL I finally have my information in front of me..Josef (Joseph) Schim mer born c. 1851 and Catharina(Katherine) Schimmer b. 1847 first showed up on the1880 census in Appleto n. At that time their homecountry was listed as Austria. Their children at thattime were listed as A lways (Louisa) age 9, birthplaceWI, Frank age 7, " ", Charley (Carolous)a ge 5, Emmaage 3 and Catherina (Katherine) 6 months. Joseph'soccupation w as listed as working in a pulp mill. Birth Records I have found indica te Frank Schimmer March 22, 1873 Appleton, Carolus Schimmer March 29, 1875, Anna Schimmer Feb. 15, 1877 No record of Louisa's or Katherine's births, butKatherine's death certi ficate is listed as date of birth May 19, 1880-- which would agree with thecensus.My next record was the marriage record that you havefound. March 26, 19 01 Katherine (Katie) Schimmer andHerbert Smith were married. He work ed as a papermakerin Kimberly Wisconsin. His parents were Charles O.Smi th and Anna Yingling (it was mis spelled asWingling) Her parents are list ed as Joseph Schimmerand Catherine Luaker (could be Luecker).Now then... a few months after the wedding--- July 12,1901 they had a daug hter Viola Mary Smith born in EauClaire Wisconsin. July 12, 1904 Iona Ma ry Smith wasborn- she was my great grandma. Leona Katherine Smithwas bo rn August 29, 1916 and finally Herbert Eli Smithwas born Ocotober 30, 1918 .Katherine died October 30, 1926 after a bout ofpericarditis lead to a str oke.. she was also diabeticand lost a leg around 1916. As for the kids. .. Violabecame a nurse and lived in Arizona-- she had nochildren and was e stranged from the rest of thefamily. I'm not sure what her date of death i s. Ionalived until the ripe old age of 93. She marriedCharles Du Bois in J une 22, 1926 in St. PaulMinnesota. They lived most of their married lives inthe house I live in n ow in Eau Claire. They had onedaughter, Joan Adelle Du Bois on November 22, 1927.Leona married Wally Ru dd (not sure of the year.) shedied in 1984 in Eau Claire, and he died a f ew yearsbefore that. They had three children.. I don't havetheir nam es in front of me at this time. Herbert Jr.went on to serve in WWII in N ew Guinea. He was killedin the battle of Buna Gona November 21, 194 Ok.. now back to the Appleton area.. I have arecord from the 1920 cens us Calumet County HarrisonTownship.. It lists Katherine Schimmer age 71, year ofimmigration 1871 (wh ich could mean Louisa was bornoverseas) and year of naturalization 1885. C ountry oforigin is listed as Bohemia (which is what my greatgrandmother h ad said was where they came from). At thetime she had her son Frank a ge 46 and ? grandsonAlbert age 19. It listed her occupation as owning afar m. A friend of mine found a blurb in the AppletonPost Crescent from Apr il 6, 1922 thanking people fortheir condolensces for their mother Katherin eSchimmer. I have been unable to find any moreinformation on her.The main questions I have been trying to find answersto are:Where did th ey actually come from? When did Joseph die/ where is his death certificate?, When did Katherine (the elder) die? Where are they buried?Was her maiden name Luecker and was she any relationto the Luecker's in th at area?It is probable that they were married before theycame over,, and not knowi ng where they came from makesthat part difficult. please let me know if y ou haveany suggestions.i also have information on the Smith family if youwant it.Thanks,Rhiannon
