  Marvin (SOUPY) Hartjes, age 85, Combined Locks, WI, died on the morning of Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Ladysmith Care Community, Ladysmith, WI. Marv was born July 22, 1931, to the late Willard (Bill) and Helen (Vandenberg) Hartjes at their home in Combined Locks, WI and married Patricia (Pat) Anne Elliott on September 27, 1951, at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Pat preceded Marv in death at age 71 on November 23, 2004. Marv and Pat raised their children and lived their entire lives in Combined Locks. Marv, nicknamed after his father, was known as SOUPY from the time he was a young boy. Soupy left behind many family and friends both young and old. His cherished friendships had no age barriers, and his friends became family caring for one another throughout the years at the local gathering spot, the Lox Club. He was active as an avid golfer, horseshoe player, sheepshead card player, and square dancer in his younger years. He also enjoyed woodworking, duck decoy painting, maintaining his yard, cutting it up on the dance floor, the out of doors, and family camping and camaraderie around the campfire at his trailer. Soupy was a Quarter Century Club Member and received many Safety Awards at the Combined Locks Paper Mill where he worked for 43 years after graduating from Kimberly High School until his retirement in 1992. He will be missed dearly by his many friends and family. Survivors include his children Susan (late Daniel) Holman, Eden Prairie, MN, and son Jeff Doherty; Steve/Soupy (Connie) Hartjes, Wautoma, WI, and children Luke, Sarah & Jordan; Sharyl (Rick) Rodina, Ladysmith, WI, and daughters Megan and Katie; Scott (BillieJo) Hartjes, Kaukauna, WI, and daughters Leah & Breeanna; sister Joyce (late Al) Leintz; brother Jerome (Janice) Hartjes; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Willard & Helen Hartjes; his beautiful wife of 53 years, Pat, and three of their children, Stephen, Sandra & Pamela; brother-in-law Al Leintz; son-in-law Daniel Holman; and many friends through his 85 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 25 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Wallace St., Combined Locks.
