  Leo C. Schmit, 60, Funeral Services Held On May 18, 1954, funeral services were held at St. Peter's church in Bellwood for Leo C. Schmit, 60. He was a lifetime resident, of the community. Mr. Schmit died May 15 as the result of coronary thrombosis following an illness of about five years. Rev. G. C. Messman officiated and music was by the church choir. Serving as pallbearers were Leon Michael, Richard Michael, Laurence Puetz, Gerald Janicek, Eugene Schmit and Schmit. Burial was in St. Mary's and St. Peter's cemetery at Bellwood. Members of Lavern N. Schmit American Legion Post attended the funeral in a body. Mr. Schmit was born March 4, 1894, at Bellwood and was engaged in farming during his lifetime. He enlisted in the armed forces during World War I and served from Aug. 15, 1918 to Feb. 3, 1919 as a Musician Third Class. FA. In Nov. 1919, he was united in marriage to Susan Sand at Spencer Grove Ia. To this union two children, LaVerne and Mrs. Delores Kreizinger, were born. Mrs. Schmit died Oct. 29, 1931. On Sept. 30,1940, he was married to Miss Elsie C. Schmit at St. Peter's Church in Bellwood. Six children were born to this union, Robert Lee, Edward Joseph, Carol Ann, Wilma Jean, David and Keith. He is survived by his wife, Elsie, seven children; his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Schmit of David City; two brothers, J. A. Schmit of Watertown, S. D., and Peter J. Schmit of Bellwood; four sisters Mrs. Nick (Elizabeth) Puetz of Bellwood, Mrs. Ed. (Ann) Michael of Lincoln, Mrs. Leo (Laura) Janicek of Bellwood, and Mrs. Don (Eleanora) Decker of Cedar Falls, Ia. Preceding him in death were his father and one son, LaVerne, who was killed in action while in service Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. John A. Schmit of Watertown, S.
