  SHOOTING MYSTERY CAUSES BIG EXCITEMENT- Peter Gibbs (Katie's Fiance) shoo ts Katie Watry and then commits suicide.Big excitement was caused Sunday evening by the discovery of the dead bodi es of Katie Watry and Peter Gibbs in the Watry home. The Watry family we re invited out for dinner to the home of their son, Joe. Katie went to me et her fiance, who was expected on the two o'clock car from Sheboyga n. Mr and Mrs. Peter Watry, Sr. and daughter Lizzie returned home about se ven o'clock. They came in by way of the rear door, when the bodies were fo und in the sitting room. Gibbs lay on his back on the floor with a bull et hole through his head and the girl was propped up against the wall. T he revolver that dealt death lay near Gibbs' stiffened fingers, with two c hambers discharged. Dr. Savage examined the wounds of both parties and sa ys the bullet which ended the life of Miss Watry entered on the left si de of her head back of the ear and came out at the right side of her foreh ead, with no powder marks about her head, showing that the shot was discha rged at long range, while the bullet that was fired into Gibbs' brain w as discharged at close range above his right ear, clipping off a pie ce of the top of it and burning his skin with powder marks. The bullet ca me out on the right side of his head, higher up than where it entered. Mi ss Katie Watry, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Watry, Sr., was bo rn in the town of Port Washington on March 16, 1887. She leaves to mourn h er early departure, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Peter Watry, Sr., six brother s, John of Iona, Minn., Peter, Jr., Dominic, Leo, Nick, and Joe and two si sters Mrs. Nick Steinmetz of Escanaba, Mich., and Lizzie at home. The fune ral was held this Wednesday morning from St. Mary's Church. Newspaper article in the Port Washington Herald Volume 27.
