    Obituary:
Edward G. Steenis, age 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 4, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
Edward was born November 7, 1934 in Appleton, son of the late Edward Sr. and Vesper Steenis. After graduation from Appleton West High School class of 1953, Edward was employed through Northwestern Colorgraphics for 44 years. He also worked for the Appleton YMCA for many years.
Edward proudly served his country in the Wisconsin National Guard. He and his unit were called to active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis and were stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. He retired as 1st Sergeant with 23 years of service. On May 19, 1956 he married his high school sweetheart Carolyn Mitchler. They enjoyed 58 years together.
Edward and Carolyn enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They also enjoyed traveling with their motor home throughout the United States and Canada. Edward also enjoyed many years up at his cottage guiding "the boys" in their hunting and fishing adventures. Edward was an avid sports fan and he enjoyed competing in many different types of sports. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in many different sports while coaching from the sidelines.
Survivors include his wife Carolyn; children: Edward (LeaAnn) Steenis, Lynn Rathsack, and Theresa (Ron) Bouchard; grandchildren: Nicole (Bryan) Hoerning, James Steenis (special friend Alicia), Jason (Sara) Rathsack, Jacob Rathsack, Justin Rathsack, Betsy (Ben) Rachubinski, Katie (Fred) Bocskor, Jennifer (Jeff) Berndt, Stephanie Bouchard (special friend Josh). Edward was also blessed with six great grandchildren, Austin and Addison Hoerning, Rilyn Rachubinski, Hailey and Carter Berndt, and Nadalyn Steenis. Edward is further survived by his brother and sister-in-laws: Alyse Mitchler, MaryAnn (Jerry) Maas, Tim (Doreen) Mitchler, Tom Mitchler, Larry (Debbie) Mitchler; many nieces and nephews; special friends: Carl and Pat Sengstock, Herman and Shirley Gehrt, Lyle and GayAnn Wichman, Fred and Char Steenis.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, a sister-in law Melody Mitchler, brothers-in-law: George Mitchler and James Mitchler. It is comforting to know that great grandpa is lovingly holding in his arms his great grandchildren who also preceded him in death.
Services will be held on Saturday January 11, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St. Appleton, WI. Family and friends will be received at the church at 10:00 until the time of service. Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Matthews Senior Living and Hospice for the wonderful and loving care they provided for Edward. Your kindness will stay in our hearts forever.
