    Mary E. (Ahrens) Stegert, 96, Appleton, went to be with Jesus Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Renaissance. She was born October 26, 1913, in the Fox Valley to the late Patrick and Hattie (De Bruin) Gerarden. She married Harold "Red" Ahrens and they had three children together; he preceded her in death in 1974. Mary later married Donald Stegert and he preceded her in death in 2003. She worked for the City of Appleton as a parking cashier for many years. She loved old movies, bingo, horses, bird watching, flowers and time spent at the cottage at Lake Metonga in Crandon.
    Survivors include her children: John "Jack" Ahrens, Appleton; Patricia (David) Parry, Wellington, NV, and Tom (Rose) Ahrens, Appleton; 12 grandchildren: Marcus Ahrens, Tim Ahrens, Dawn Ahrens-Trams, John Ahrens, Tom Parry, David Parry Jr., Lori Johnson, Tricia Courtright, Michael Ahrens, Lisa Stroess, Brian Ahrens and Thomas "TJ" Ahrens; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Louis (Sally) Gerarden, Appleton and two sisters-in-law: Louise Gerarden and Merle Gerarden.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a great-grandchild, Nicholas Behling; a grandson-in-law, Duane Trams; siblings: Ted and Tony Gerarden, Florence Heinritz and Vin and Jack Jensen.
    A prayer service for Mary will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Valley Funeral Home. Friends may visit the family from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
    The family wishes to thank the staff of Renaissance, Affinity Hospice and Home InStead for their wonderful care of Mary and her family.

    Gerarden (Ted) Appleton
    Ted passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2001. He was born in De Pere, s on of the late Patrick and Henrietta (DeBruin) Gerarden, and later liv ed in Appleton, where his father was lockmaster at Appleton No. 4 Locks a nd Dam. He attended St. Joseph School and graduated from Appleton High Sch ool in 1937. He received his B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Milw aukee State Teachers College (UW-Milwaukee). Immediately afterward, he enl isted as a Chief Boatswain's Mate in the U.S. Coast Guard. While station ed at Atlantic City, N.J., he married Louise M. McCarter (also of Appleto n) on November 21, 1942, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. He s erved in the Pacific Theater during WWII until his honorable discharge Jan uary 31, 1946. After his return, he was employed by the First National Ban k/Marine Bank for 37 years. He also taught the Saturday Morning Arts & Cra fts Class for 27 years with the Appleton Recreation Department. He was a m ember of Sacred Heart Church, where he served for many years as a truste e. Ted is survived by his wife, Louise; three sons and a daughter-in-la w: Patrick, Appleton; Timothy, Rochester, Minn.; Kevin and Susan, Oshkos h; three daughters and a son-in-law: Maureen Gerarden, Madison; Kathleen G erarden, Appleton; Jean and Ed Annibale, Green Bay; two brothers and siste rs-in-law: Tony and Merle, West Haven, Conn.; Louis and Sally, Appleton; t wo sisters and a brother-in-law: Mary and Don Stegert, Appleton; Floren ce Heinritz, Appleton; six grandchildren: Paul, Jodie, Charlie, Ellen, Jo hn and Tony; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in dea th by a brother, Joseph, and two half-brothers, Vincent and Jack Jansse n. Mass of the Resurrection will be offered 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2 001, at Sacred Heart Church, 222 E. Fremont St. with the Rev. Bob Karuhn o fficiating.     Obituary:
    Tom Ahrens, age 77 of Appleton, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016. He had battled Lewy Body Dementia for over five years. Tom was born in Appleton on July 20, 1939, son of the late Harold and Mary (Gerarden) Ahrens. He attended Appleton High School, and on July 8, 1961 married Rose DeDecker who survives him. Together, the couple celebrated fifty-five years of marriage this past July. He was employed by Spencer Johnston and J.J. Plank for thirty-eight years, and after a very brief "retirement" spent another ten years working for Bergstrom Lexus of Appleton.
    Tom was a wonderful husband and father, always caring for his family. He enjoyed bowling and playing softball with the guys from work. He also loved to play cards, or just spend quiet time at the cottage with dear friends Stan and Sandy Woldt.
    He is survived by his wife: Rose Ahrens of Appleton; three children: Michael (Malissa) Ahrens of Menasha; Brian (Melissa) Ahrens of Appleton; and T.J. (Faren) Ahrens of Bristow, Virginia; six grandchildren: Amber Behling, Katie Ahrens, Lexi Ahrens, Baylee Ahrens, Matthew Ahrens, and Elijah Ahrens; a brother: Jack Ahrens of Appleton; a sister: Pat (David) Parry of Winona, Texas; two sisters-in-law: Kathy (Bill) Gardner of Appleton and Terri Schmidt of Seymour; a brother-in-law: Dr. Randy (Nancy) DeDecker of Hortonville; a son-in-law: Kent Stroess; and a step-grandson: Jesse Stroess. There are also several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Lisa Stroess, a grandson Nicholas Behling, Rose's parents Harold and Gertrude DeDecker, and his step-father Don Stegert.
    A memorial funeral liturgy for Tom will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at ST. THERESE CATHOLIC CHURCH, Morrison Street at Wisconsin Avenue, with Fr. Ryan Starks officiating. Inurnment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
