    Obituary:
    Frieda Lillian Miller, age 98, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at her home in Appleton.
    Frieda was born on March 8th, 1914 to the late William and Anna (nee Giese) Hoefs in Cicero Township, Outagamie County Wisconsin on the family farm that her father's parents and her father had homesteaded when they first came here from Germany (Prussia). Both sets of Frieda's grandparents immigrated here with their relatives, extended family and neighbors. Her family was one of the earliest pioneer settlers in Outagamie County.
    Frieda attended Cicero District #3 school until the 8th grade and then had to stay at home to help with the work on the family farm. She always regretted not being able to finish her schooling.
    As a child she and her family attended Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cicero.
    Frieda was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Appleton for over 75 years. Her faith and the congregation meant a lot to her and always was a very large part of her life.
    She came to Appleton to live when she was 19 years old. She worked doing housework for a few families at first until she got a job at Zwicker Knitting Mill in Appleton in 1934. She was employed there for eight years before she married and started a family.
    Working at Zwicker's was a happy time in her life that she would reminisce about many times throughout the years. She made many friends and acquaintances there and would love it when she could get together with some of them and talk about their time there.
    Frieda was married to Raymond W. Miller of Grand Chute on Valentine's Day of 1942 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Black Creek. Frieda and Ray resided in Appleton during the 44 years of their married life. Frieda started making afghans sometime in the early 1970's and would make them for all of her family members and friends. At last count she had made around thirty of them. She also loved making cookies for her grand kids whenever she could.
    Frieda is survived by her children and their families, Lee (Mary) Miller, Menasha; James Miller, Bruce (Sandy) Miller, and Marilyn Weber, all of Appleton. Her five grandchildren, Leslie (John) Ceszynski, Menasha; Adam (Mara) Miller, Seattle, WA; Ben (Hailey) Miller, North Bend, WA; Norel (Seth) Swanson, Missoula, MT; and Eric Miller, Duluth, MN. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Aidan and Declan Ceszynski and Freya Swanson and two new great-grandchildren arriving next year.
    Frieda was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond in 1986. She was also preceded in death by all her sisters and brothers and their spouses, Minnie (Eiche) Krause, Ella (Oscar) Krause Adeline (John) Nieland, Anita (Henry) Krause, Dora (Robert) Prelipp, Hilda Haefs, Marion Haefs, Richard (Helen) Hoefs, William (Dorothy) Haefs, In Laws - William and Emma Miller;
    brother's-in-law and sister-in-law, Walter (Helen) Miller, and Howard Miller, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
    The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December, 15, 2012 at St. John United Church of Christ, 1130 W. Marquette Street, Appleton, the Rev. Dr. Tom Fritz officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Family and friends will be received at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the hour of service.
    The family wishes to thank all the staff at Pioneer Village where Frieda had previously resided and also to the staff at Sheelin House in Darboy for all the wonderful care she was given

    I am survived by my husband Ruben of Seymour. Together, we had 4 children; Brianna Nooyen living at home dating Austin Abendroth, Bryce married to Amy Nooyen of Middletown PA, Troy married to Carly Nooyen of Pulaski, and Heather married to Jeff Brandt of Greenleaf. We also 4 grandchildren: Trever and Conner, sons of Troy and Carly, and Laken and Ryah, daughters of Heather and Jeff.

    I also had many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
    Preceded me in death are my dad, Vernon Duhm, Henry and Adele Nooyen; niece and nephew Carrie and Aaron Borchardt.
    Friends may call at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 4:00 to 8 p.m. Visitation will be Monday, July 1, 2013 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church from 10:00 a.m. until services at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Roland Lindeman officiating. Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery in Seymour. I ask that all acts of kindness and sympathy be directed toward a memorial fund in my name.
    I want to thank everyone for all the cards and gifts I received while being treated for cancer. I want to thank the emergency room staff at St. Mary's Hospital, the doctors: Dr. Warren, Dr. Winkler of Green Bay, and Dr. La Conte of Madison, and of course all of the staff at St. Mary's Hospital, especially the staff at the Oncology Center and the people from Unity Hospice. I can't begin to name names; there are so many. You all have been helpful and understanding even when I wasn't my best. So thank you. Everyone that waved or talked to me while I was walking, it sure helped to encourage me.
    The best words someone can say to someone like me is "we're thinking of you" or "we're praying for you" So thanks to all of you that said those words to me. Remember I didn't give up, but I had to be realistic. Written by Karla Nooyen
