    Smits, Roland (Rollie)
    Roland (Rollie) Smits, 79, longtime De Pere resident, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009, surrounded by family. He was born March 8, 1930 in Green Bay, son of the late Peter and Hattie (VandenElzen) Smits. He married Gen Peeters on May 16, 1953, married 56 years.
    Rollie worked at Procter and Gamble for 39 years, and was a volunteer firefighter in De Pere for 14 years. He was a longtime member of the 3rd Degree De Pere Knights of Columbus, Council #3955. An avid billiards player, Rollie played leagues in De Pere for many years, winning various trophies. He enjoyed adventures and traveling with his best friend, Gen, throughout their life together; traveling to the Canary Islands, Hawaii, Mexico, Jamaica, and many destinations within the United States. Rollie had a quick wit and great sense of humor; he could come up with a one-liner for any occasion. Rollie couldn't pass up a good card game and usually won. Rollie enjoyed watching any sporting event, especially the Packers, Brewers and local softball such as the Pink Flamingo tournament.
    He was a loving husband and father, and his favorite times were spent with family.
    Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Gen; three children and their spouses, Barbara and Steve Van Egeren, New Franken, Karen and Richard Del Marcelle, De Pere, and Jeff and Karen Smits, Green Bay; seven grandchildren, Tavia and Lydia Smits, Jessica, James and Joe Nick, and Ryan (Jennifer) Del Marcelle and Brandon Del Marcelle; two great-grandchildren, Mason Flickinger and Boe Del Marcelle; brothers and sisters, Florence and Ervin Heim, New Franken, Merlin and Junella Smits, Green Bay, Rosemary and Lyle Mangin, Reedsville, Laverne Heezen, De Pere, Roger and Rita Smits, Lexington, Ky., and Edward and Lynn Smits, Oconto; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Florence and Don Baeten, and Irv and Vi Peeters.
    Rollie was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Hattie Smits; brother, Harry Smits; brother-in-law, Henry P. Heezen; mother and father-in-law, Esther and Cornelius (CM) Peeters; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Pat Peeters; and brother-in-law, Larry Peeters.
    Family and friends may call Tuesday, June 16, 2009 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, where there will be a Parish Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of Mass at St. Mary Catholic Community, Pope John XXIII Circle, off Sportsman Dr., Town of Ledgeview. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at church, with the Rev. John H. Harper officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Mausoleum.     Clarence W. VanDenElzen, age 89, of De Pere, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at his home. The son of the late William and Ethel (VanVonderen) VanDenElzen was born February 8, 1928 in Green Bay. He married Marie Kocken on June 15, 1949 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in De Pere, and together they shared 68 years of marriage. He started working for Louie Everetts for 3 years, followed by 27 years at Ed Kocken Excavating. He later retired as a heavy equipment operator at Gauthier Construction after 12 years. Clarence was a devoted catholic, and the rosary was an important symbol of his faith. He was well involved at St. Mary Catholic Church in De Pere. He also helped with Meals on Wheels for 23 years, drove medical transport for Lamers for 15 years, and was a long-time member of the De Pere Area Men's Club. He spent his spare time at the cabin on Munger Lake, where he was instrumental in getting the dam rebuilt and restocking fish in the lake.
    Survivors include his wife, Marie; children: Daniel (Kathleen) VanDenElzen, Susan (Richard) Smits, Janice Loehlein, Jean Angell, John (Laura) VanDenElzen, Betty (Roche) Smits, grandchildren: Mark VanDenElzen, Ann VanDenElzen, Sarah (Joe) McKee, Joash (Shannon) Smits, Erica (Steve) Rouser, Paul (Katie) Loehlein, Amy Loehlein, Jessica Thrun, Donnie (Mary) Angell, Chris (Laura) VanDenElzen, Craig (Beth) VanDenElzen, Trisha (Kyle) Meulemans, Tanya (Kevin) Kussow, and Tara Smits; many great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is further survived by his siblings: Don (Carol) VanDenElzen, Jane Kaster and Ruby (Gerald) Dohrmann; sisters-in-law: Theresa VanDenElzen, Eunice Kocken, Ann Kocken and Caroline Kocken; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
    In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by: sibings: Ervin (Cleo) and Orville; brother-in-law Jerry Kaster; Marie's brothers and sisters: Neil (Harriet) Kocken, Henrietta (Lester) Roffers, Albert (Marlene) Kocken, Helen (John) VanNoie, Walter Kocken, Norb Kocken and John Kocken.

    Green Bay - Donald Joseph Van Den Elzen, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. He was born on September 2, 1934 in De Pere, WI to the late William and Ethel (Von Vonderen) Van Den Elzen. On April 22, 1961 Don married Carol Vercauteren at St. John's Catholic Church in Seymour, WI. He was employed as a cement truck driver for 39 years. Don enjoyed watching his grandchildren, hunting up north with the guys, taking care of his yard, fixing puzzles with his great-granddaughter Eva, feeding birds and watching the deer in his backyard, riding his John Deere lawn mower and his Ford Tractor.
    Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol; his children, Lee (Rene) Van Den Elzen, Lynn (Wade) Schultz, Lois (Larry) Schwister, Lori (Rick) Endries and Larry (Jane) Van Den Elzen; grandchildren, Reed Titulaer, Kayla and Katie Schultz, Ben and Nicole Schwister, Brandi (Nick) Conway, Michael and Mitchell Endries and Jared and Kristi Van Den Elzen; great-granddaughter, Eva Conway; sisters, Jane Kaster and Ruby (Jerry) Dohrmann; sisters-in-law, Marie Van Den Elzen, Teresa Van Den Elzen and Rosemary Van De Hei.

    Vanden Elzen, Robert L.Robert L. Vanden Elzen, 72, Green Bay died Friday April 30, 2004, at a loc al hospital. He was born Aug. 23, 1931, in De Pere, Wis., to Marie (Vanden Heuvel) and Henry Vanden Elzen. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955 a nd received an Honorable Discharge in 1961. On July 25, 1964, he married B ernadette Sousek at St. Francis Solonus Catholic Church in Gresham, Wis. M r. Vanden Elzen had been employed for 22 years with Weyerhaeuser before re tiring in 1993. He was a longtime member of St. Agnes Parish. Bob loved hu nting, fishing, being outdoors and his cabin in Lakewood but most importan tly, Bob enjoyed his family, especially his two grandchildren.He is survived by his wife, Bernadette; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom a nd Laurie Vanden Elzen, Menasha; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anne and S teve Zurbuchen, Merrimac, Wis.; Mary Jo and Dennis Sieren, Sun Prairie, Wi s.; two grandchildren, Morgan and Jacob; two sisters, Bernice Lovese e, De Pere; Helen Kulhanek, Green Bay; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ja mes and Jean Vanden Elzen, Howard; Edward and Anita Vanden Elzen, De Per e; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean Vanden Elzen.Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 8 p. m. Sunday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. Visitati on will continue from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Chur ch, 1484 Ninth Street. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10: 30 a.m. Monday at the church with Rev. Richard Getchlel officiating.     Vanden Elzen, JimJim Vanden Elzen, 68 years old, a longtime resident of the Village of Howa rd died early Sunday morning, November 7, 2004 surrounded by his loving fa mily after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim served in the U. S. Navy S eabees as a Builder First Class. On September 17, 1960, he married Jean Br unette at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Duck Creek. Jim was a se lf-employed carpenter for most of his life. He was an active Volunteer f or St. Vincent De Paul. He loved fishing, camping, traveling and helping o thers. But, nothing meant more to Jim than his family, especially his gran dchildren!He is survived by his wife, Jean; his three children and their spouses, Ci ndi and Mike Gerrits, Suamico; Tina and John Bryson, Plainfield, Ill; Lan ce and Ann Vanden Elzen, “Next Door”; his four grandchildren, Josh, Alain a, Ethan, Abby; two sisters, Bernice Lovesee and Helen Kulhanek; a broth er and sister in law, Ed and Anita Vanden Elzen; a sister in law, Bernadet te Vanden Elzen; and many nieces and nephews.Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Pam; a brother, Bob and a siste r, Jean.Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave. from 4 - 8 p. m.     Allen C. VandenElzen, 69, Green Bay, passed away at home on Saturday, June 16, 2012.
    Allen was born June 20, 1942 to the late Norbert and Janet (Fite) VandenElzen. On September 21, 1963 he married Marlene Process. He was the owner and operator of Valley Equipment for over thirty four years. Al enjoyed his work and appreciated all of his loyal customers throughout his career. He always looked forward to creating and helping others with projects, spending time with his family and grandchildren. Al also enjoyed gun collecting, riding his Harleys, photography, fixing up classic cars, and spending time at his cottage with loved ones.
    Survivors include his beloved wife, Marlene; children, Kym VandenElzen; Kirt VandenElzen; Kelli (Clarence) Crane; grandchildren, Makenzie and Evan VandenElzen; Aris and Adra Crane; brothers and sisters, Ruth (Leonard) Goeben; Raynond (Shirley) VandenElzen; Tom (Joan) VandenElzen; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry (Judy) Process, and is also further survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Elmer and Ione Process.
    Family and friends may call for a Celebration of Allen's Life at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home and Cremation Service, East-Town Location, 2379 E. Mason Street, on Tuesday, June 19, from 4 until 7 pm. Funeral service 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Entombment at Shrine of the Good Shepherd.
