Jay :Thanks for responding.I'm working all year on this to publish what I've found as a "surprise" f or the family, so would appreciate your discretion in keeping our exchang es private just for now. To date, I haven't found John on the 1870 census. By the 1880 he and h is family were living in Kansas. Johann was married to Justine Marie Hansen (b. 1832, Schleswig-Holstein ), but I have no date - they may have been married in Germany, maybe Wisco nsin. Two children born in Kansas, Dorothy Elizabeth in 1874 and Frank in 187 6. So John was in Wisconsin in October 1868 and farming in Kansas on or b efore January 1874, this much is documented.(Red herring: the family insisted that Dorothy was born in Germany so Jo hn and Justine must have been married there and crossed as a family. Wh en I found Dorothy's birth place, I tossed all other assumptions and start ed fresh.)In 1895 John moved farm and household to Brown County. Dorothy probably m arried while living in Wisconsin, but returned to Kansas. Frank definite ly married in Wisconsin and remained there.When John died, 1907, Justine went to live with her daughter in Kansas. Much of what I've found goes against family lore. Whether John actual ly had cousins in Hollandtown?, I'm thinking the answer might be fou nd in the records of Saint Francis.I haven't figured how you are related each surname of your database, b ut we have a multitude of family connections ; I found a few more yet aft er writing you earlier.

Jay, Thanks to your transcript, I was able to locate the grave of John Sch midt (b. 8 November 1835; d. 30 July 1907) and have browsed through your w eb pages on a number of visits. The information and links have often be en helpful. John was my great-great-grandfather ; I have all of his descendants and s omething of his biography, this was fairly easy But I'm not going to g et much farther until I solve the mystery of his nativity.I'm at some distance and not sure when research in Green Bay will be a pos sibility. For now, if I may, a few questions in the event you've run acro ss any of this information : Do you know more about John (Johann) from the records of Saint Francis ( or would you just happen to have his obituary :-) ?Do you know if or how he might be related to the other Schmidts buried ne ar him ? My great aunt, dead before I took an interest in any of this, be lieved he'd moved to Hollandtown from Kansas because "some cousins" were a lready living there. Too, his Declaration of Intent had been filed in Out agamie County (1868) before he settled in Kansas. Do you have a place of birth for the immigrants among your Schmidt s? If only the Provinz or Kreis, this would help to narrow research (as w ould his full name or middle initial :-). At this writing, all I kn ow is he'd been a citizen of Preußen. On slightest chance of all, would names Herman N. Schmidt (b. 1862) or h is cousin Albert Schmidt (about same age) appear as sibling or son to a ny member of Saint Francis or your database? Herman arrived in the U. S. in 1885 ; I have no dates for Albert ; neither married nor died in Wisc onsin, but other members of their families may have lived by Hollandtown. John Schmidt, 80, Kaukauna Business and Civic Leader, Dies Had Been President of Farmers and Merchants Bank Many Years
John Schmidt, 80, prominent farmer, businessman and public official, died at his home 305 W. Ninth street, Kaukauna, at 5:50 Saturday morning. Mr. Schmidt was president of the Farmers' and Merchants' bank, which he organized in 1911, until he resigned because of ill health in 1930.
Active in public and church affairs for many years, he had served on both the Calumet and Outagamie county boards, was first vice president of the Tri-County Pig Fair association, organized at Kaukauna several years ago, and was the organize r of the first farmers' grain elevator at Kaukauna. Born in Kreuzaber, Germany, Mr. Schmidt came to America with his parents at the age of 12 years, locating in the then of Woodville, Calumet county. In 1920 he turned his farm over to his son s so he could devote all his time to the banking business.Survivors are the wodow; five sons, Frank, John, Albert and edward, Kaukauna, and Henry, marshfield; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Rauscher, Marshfield; Sister Mary Edward, Silver Lake Convent, Manitowoc; and twenty-eight grandchildren. Obituary:
Norbert A. Schmidt, Kaukauna, age 90, died Thursday August 1, 2013. He was born in Kaukauna on March 26, 1923 to the late Frank and Marie (Hartzheim) Schmidt. On July 12, 1945 Norbert married Lucina Haen in a double ceremony with Paul and Helen Lamers. He ran the family farm until 1977. Norbert was then the Head Groundskeeper at St. Elizabeth Hospital until his retirement. He was an avid golfer and tennis player. Norbert was a member of the Fox Valley Golf Club into his 80's and never missed a Thursday round of golf with the guys. He was devoted to his family and treasured time spent with them, especially his grandchildren. Giving them tractor rides to the river was something they loved to do together.
The tenderness and patience he exhibited every day with his wife Lucina, as her memory failed, was a true testament to his character and devotion to his family … a lesson of love we will always cherish.
Norbert is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lucina; children: Jean (Charles) Ertl, San Diego, CA; Mary Novak, Philadelphia, PA; Anne (Jeffrey) Jaekels, Green Bay; and Lisa (Andrew) Hayes, Fond du Lac; grandchildren: John (Kimberly), Jeremy (Cassandra), Joshua (Jeanine) and Angela (James); Sarah; Jessica (Theran), Jennifer (Ben), Lizzie (Andrew) and Jacqueline; Isaac and Noah; 11 great grandchildren (and expecting 2 more); and brothers; Francis (Rose), Alfred (Eunice) and Jerome Schmidt. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Norbert was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lauren Novak; and sister-in-law: Audrey Schmidt. He was also preceded in death by his 3 older brothers, a sister and numerous in-laws.
Visitation will be held Tuesday August 6, 2013 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH - ST. MARY CHURCH (119 W. 7th St. Kaukauna) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Francis A. Schmidt, Appleton, age 90, died Wednesday November 12, 2014 at Cherry Meadows. He was born in the Town of Buchanan on November 1, 1924 to the late Frank and Marie (Hartzheim) Schmidt. Francis married Rose Lamers on June 17, 1948 at St. Paul Parish in Wrightstown. He retired from farming and sales, and enjoyed golf, bowling, flower gardening and wood crafts.

Alfred E. "Fritz" Schmidt, Kaukauna, age 89, died Thursday, May 12, 2016 at St Paul Hospice. He was born in the Town of Buchanan on December 9, 1926 to the late Frank and Marie (Hartzheim) Schmidt. Fritz enlisted in the US Army on March 16, 1945 and served until November 23, 1946. He served as a sergeant in Japan during the rebuilding efforts of WWII. Fritz married Eunice M. Gerrits on October 9, 1948, at St Francis in Hollandtown. He worked for CW Transport for 35 years until his retirement. He dedicated over 50 years to St. Vincent DePaul of Kaukauna. Serving his community was a very important part of his life. Fritz enjoyed the Cubs, the Packers, golfing, bowling, working in his yard, scallops, old fashions from VanAbels and driving his very clean car. He was a very devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Fritz will be greatly missed by all.

Anaceil Catherine Randerson, age 94, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living Center in Appleton.
Anaceil was born on August 2, 1921 at her home in Outagamie County, Wisconsin. She is the daughter of the late John J. and Hattie (Van Asten) Schmidt. Anaceil was united in marriage to Patrick J. Randerson at St. Francis in Hollandtown, and Patrick preceded her in death in July of 2006. Anaceil was a very active member of her church, she was loving, compassionate, gracious, kind hearted and had a loving soul. She will always be remembered for her vitamin H "Hugs".

Combined Locks - Vincent F. Schmidt, Combined Locks, age 93, died Friday, April 6, 2018 surrounded by loving arms of his family. He was born in the Town of Woodville on April 5, 1925 to the late John J. and Hattie (Van Asten) Schmidt. Vincent was a War World II Army veteran that served in the Pacific from 1944-46 and was a member of the William Verhagen American Legion Post 60 and the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319. He was proud to be part of the rifle squad performing at many military funerals over the years. He married Rose Ann Nackers on May 8, 1947 at St. Mary Parish in Kaukauna. Vincent worked at the Kimberly mill, retiring after 40 years. He was a member of the Golden Agers in Combined Locks for many years. His children and grandchildren were his greatest joy. Vincent enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends, especially his Monday morning buddies. Any day was a good day if he could go fishing with one of his children/grandchildren. It did not matter if the fish were biting as long as there was an ice cream cone at the end of the line. At 92, he still went to the YMCA at least once a week. He also enjoyed taking care of his rose and vegetable garden and time at his woods, his little piece of heaven on earth.

Clifford J. Schmidt, age 90, of Kaukauna, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at St. Elizabeth Hospital on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. He was born in Kaukauna on February 26, 1927, son of the late John and Hattie (Van Asten) Schmidt. Cliff married Rita Van Camp on January 30, 1951, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in West Depere, and the ceremony was officiated by Reverend B.H. Pennings.
Cliff was a dedicated farmer for his whole life, receiving several awards including the 1976 Orrin Meyer ARC-DHIA Production Award and the Century Farm Award. He was very proud of his farming accomplishments. Cliff was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church (where he was an usher and a greeter), the Lions Club, the Moose Lodge, the Knights of Columbus and the Homemakers. He was an avid fisherman, great bowler and golfer in his senior men's golf leagues. He was very proud of his large family, especially his 29 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

William "Bill" Joseph Schmidt of Kaukauna, Wisconsin died peacefully early Sunday morning, February 5th, 2017, after a short and difficult illness. He was only 79 years old.
Bill is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Anne (Kaufmann) Schmidt and his three children and spouses, Sarah Schmidt and Todd McCarthy of Wilmette, IL; Andrew and Lyssa Schmidt of Appleton, WI, and Maggie Schmidt and Ken Danila of Newton, MA. He was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren - Shana, Aidan, Dawson, Will, Miles, Callie, Harry, Laney, Olive, Forrest, Walter and Ferghus. He was the seventh of eight children born to Albert and Margaret Schmidt of Kaukauna, WI and the first to die. He is survived by his beloved brothers and sisters and their spouses, Art & Gladys Schmidt, Ray & LaVerne Schmidt, Helen Lenz, Mary Ann Austin, Ellie and Marv Hietpas, Margie and Ed Mentzer and Florence and Mike McKenna. He was loved by dozens of nieces and nephews, their spouses, children and grandchildren -- too many to name. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, and three of his siblings' spouses, Iggy Lenz, Carol "Tweet" Schmidt and Frank Austin.
Bill was born at home across from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kaukauna, WI on August 13, 1937. He was adored by his sisters and mentored by his brothers. He spent his childhood playing in his neighborhood, working with his father and brothers and pestering his sisters. He remained friends to the very end with several kindergarten and elementary school friends. He loved being outdoors and working with his hands. He grew up hunting and fishing with his dad. He loved his mother's cinnamon rolls and applesauce. He lived with his parents until he met the great love of his life, Barbara.
On December 22nd, 1969, thanks to the matchmaking skills of Fr. Bernie Timmers, Bill called Barbara and went over to try the chocolate chip cookies she was making for her students. They fell in love and married on June 10th, 1970. He knew she was the one after their first official date because he could talk with her about anything. Children quickly followed. Their first, William Albert, died shortly after birth in 1971 and was never forgotten.
Bill was not unlike most men of his age and generation in that he was a very hard worker. Beginning in junior high he worked side-by-side with his father and brothers. He painted fences, washed trucks, dug holes, shined shoes, cracked hickory nuts and did whatever else was asked of him. He graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1955. In 1961, he joined the National Guard, spending one year at Fort Lewis in Washington State. He came home and joined his brothers Art and Ray in their business, Schmidt Brothers Oil Company, delivering home heating oil. Schmidt Brothers Oil became Schmidt Oil when their father Albert joined them in the business. The business grew and today is known as U.S. Venture, Inc. Bill was proud to have managed the Truck Garage, Lubricants and Petroleum Equipment Divisions and Waste Oil Recycling Facility. Throughout his career he served on many Boards and mentored countless young entrepreneurs. In 1986, he launched the U.S. Oil Open. Known today as the U.S. Venture Open, it remained his passion until his death. He remained an active member of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Venture/Schmidt Family Foundation.
Nothing was more important to Bill than helping those in need. He followed the example of his parents, who tirelessly gave of themselves to people who were hurting. And while he raised millions of dollars to help those in poverty, he also spent countless hours in his workshop making toy trains. He gave hundreds of brightly colored trains to children he knew and loved, but was most passionate about sending his trains to children in need. As he learned of kids who were sick, struggling and grieving, he consistently sent a train. Bill had a big heart. He was guided by a strong faith, kneeling by his bedside every night in prayer.
His family and friends will remember his potato fries and long, slow boat rides. He loved to sit by the fire pit on the shores of Lake Kawaguesaga. He enjoyed playing golf on Thursdays, but card games with friends even more. He loved a clean car and a mowed lawn. He wore his children's college sweatshirts with pride. He loved a project, especially in his woodshop. Whether it be a pile of wood to stack, a stone path to lay or a leaf pile to burn, Bill stayed busy. He loved a party and a family sing-a-long; beef roast, cheese curds and banana cream pie.
Bill's death leaves a very big hole that will never be filled.

Friends and family are invited to gather at St. Mary's Catholic Church (119 West 7th Street, Kaukauna, Wisconsin) starting at 4:00 pm on Friday, February 10th and concluding with a prayer service at 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue at 9:00 am on Saturday, February 11th followed by the funeral liturgy at 10:30 am.

Marcella "Sally" Mielke, Sherwood, age 98, died Thursday February 27, 2014 at St. Paul Villa. She was born in Kaukauna on August 13, 1915 to the late Nicholas and Christina (Schmidt) Jackels. Sally married George O. Mielke on March 30, 1937 at St. Mary Parish in Kaukauna. He preceded her in death in 1976. Sally was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Sherwood. She was active in the pro-life movement and volunteered at the Salvatorian Center in New Holstein and St. Elizabeth Hospital. Sally lived on Lake Winnebago for 10 years and wintered in Florida for 25.
Sally is survived by her children: Ruth Ann Gorski, Sherwood; Shirley Majeskie, Pewaukee; Mary Lou Nushart, Alaska; Marjorie Hartman, De Pere; Christine (Allen) Eldred, Medford; Janice (James) Lamers, Combined Locks; Patricia (Allan) Lisowe, Brothertown; Georgette (Larry) Spietz, Kaukauna; and Don Mielke, Sherwood; 36 grandchildren; 74 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; sister: Sr. M. Norbert Jackels, Kaukauna, age 90, died on Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at home. Norb was born December 4, 1916, in the Town of Harrison to the late Nicholas and Christina (Schmidt) Jackels. Norb married Enid Olsen who preceded him in death in the mid-1950's. On October 18, 1958, Norb married Marcella "Sally" Francart at St. Patrick Church in Menasha They were lifelong farmers and enjoyed the many social aspects of the area County Fairs. Sally and Norb were also foster parents to numerous children including Michael Lom. Sally preceded him in death on March 7, 2001. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a charter member of St. Vincent De Paul. Norb was a longtime active member of St. Aloysius Parish, participating in the funeral choir and as an Eucharistic Minister. He will be remembered for his jokes and dry humor.
He is survived by two sisters: Marcella Mielke and Sr. Cyrilla Jackels, a sister-in-law, Bernice Jackels, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He is also survived by the many family members of his first wife, Enid Olsen and second wife, Marcella Francart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Enid Olsen; his second wife, Marcella Francart; two brothers, Louis Jackels and Anthony Jackels; his five sisters, Agnes Jackels, Regina (Cyril) Halbach, Dolores (Alois) Van Camp; and infant twins, Ethel and Evelyn, as well as a brother in law, George Mielke.
Norbs' Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2007, at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL CATHOLIC CHURCH at ST. ALOYSIUS SITE, 2401 Main Avenue, Kaukauna, with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Friends will be received on Saturday at Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Kaukauna. Arthur L. Schmidt, age 88, lifelong resident of New London, died Thursday, February 8, 2007, at the Fox River Assisted Living, following a lingering illness with Parkinson's Disease. Art was born on November 3, 1918, in Hollandtown, Wisconsin, son of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Jackels) Schmidt. On January 26, 1946, he married Marian Schmidt in Sherwood. His bride of 59 years preceded him in death on August 14, 2005. Art and his wife Marian owned and operated Schmidt's Keenway Grocery Store in New London for 33 years. He was a faithful member of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, teaching religious education in the 1960s, serving as financial secretary, and a trustee for many years and was also involved in the church picnic and many other church activities. He was a member of the Father Herb Council #1797. He was a Boy Scout leader and a volunteer for the New Lass Scholarship. He also delivered meals on wheels. Art was a World War II Veteran and a member of the Norris Spencer Post American Legion of New London.

Rose Mary Brantmeier, of Brewster Village, formerly of Sherwood, age 84, d ied peacefully on December 26, 2004, after an undeserved but inspiration al battle against the cruel ravages of Alzheimer's Disease. Rose Mary w as born April 5, 1920, and liked to say she lived on Military Road sou th of Highway 10 her entire life. The daughter of late Henry and Elizabe th (Jackels) Schmidt, Rose Mary attended St. Francis School, Hollandtow n, and graduated from St. John High School, Little Chute, in 1937. Rose Ma ry was devoted to family, education and young people. One of the first wom en in her circle to go to college, she graduated from Outagamie Rural Norm al Teacher's College in 1939 and taught all eight grades at Henry Clay Sch ool (West of Sherwood) until 1942.Rose Mary married the love of her life, Hilard Brantmeier, on Aug 11, 194 2, at St. Francis Church in Hollandtown. They owned and operated Hilrose D airy Farm in Sherwood for nearly a half-century, progressively embracing n ew agricultural technologies to make farming more efficient. Rose Mary w as a 4-H leader for decades, teaching Sewing and Foods to youth in the She rwood Wide Awake 4-H Club.In June, 1975, after many years of substitute teaching and ten years of ta king one class each semester, Rose Mary achieved her lifelong dream of get ting her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Wi sconsin-Oshkosh. She then taught second grade at St. John-Sacred Heart Sch ool in Sherwood until her retirement in 1981.
Rose Mary was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Parish, Sherwood, where s he sang in the choir, counted weekly collection money, and helped out in t he school library. When she lost Hilard on November 21, 1986, she stoical ly set about making a new life for herself. She was a member of the Darti ng Needles Quilting Guild, sewing dozens of keepsake quilts, table runne rs and Christmas tree skirts for lucky recipients. She was on the Boa rd of Sherwood Cliffs Senior Apartments, a Sherwood Board of Elections po ll worker, and involved in many volunteer activities, receiving the Sherwo od Jaycee Golden Citizen Award in 1993.
Rose Mary was the ideal sports fan, loyally cheering on her beloved tea ms through thick and thin. She reveled in the success of the Milwaukee Bra ves, Wisconsin Badgers and especially the Green Bay Packers. An original P acker season ticket holder, she was in attendance at many legendary Pack er victories, including the famous 1967 Ice Bowl against Dallas. More rece ntly, as a die-hard Brewers' fan, she never gave up hope of seeing them w in a World Series one day.
Rose Mary always considered her greatest achievement to be her family. Leonard H. Schmidt, Brillion, age 95, died Monday, October 16, 2017 at his daughter's home in Florida. He was born in Woodville Township Calumet County on November 24, 1921 (Thanksgiving Day that year) to the late Henry L. and Elizabeth (Jackels) Schmidt. Len married Delores "Lori" Mader at Sacred Heart Parish in Sherwood on June 19, 1945. She preceded him in death on May 31, 2010. Len was a lover of the land. He spent his life improving and cherishing his farm land. Len continued farming the family dairy farm after the retirement of his dad, Henry, in 1952. He served many years as Director for Farm Bureau and Manitowoc Farmer. Len loved working outdoors. He was an innovative forward-thinking farmer - installed among the first herring-bone milking parlors in Wisconsin and tiled his fields for increased drainage to ensure crop yield would be maximum and easier harvesting. He was a Pfizer seed corn salesman for many years. Even after retirement in 1983, he worked constantly cutting weeds, trimming shrubs and improving gardens and flower beds at home and at St. Francis Church. Len was so happy donating vegetables from his garden to the Food Bank in Kaukauna for several years. He enjoyed picking out hickory nuts in the winter months before going to Florida to work in Judy and John's yard in January returning home to Wisconsin in May.
Len was an active 60-year member of the St. Francis Men's Choir (Charter member) and the Mixed Choir. Len's idea of a fun evening was to gather around a piano singing both old and new songs. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Knights. He was also a long-time member of the Farm Bureau, Badger Breeders, DHIA, and Farm Management Association.

Lucille Christine (Schmidt) Spencer, 92, of West Monroe, Louisiana, died on Sunday, March 12, 2017.
Lucille was born September 24, 1924, at home on the family dairy farm in Hollandtown, Wisconsin, the fourth of six children in the Henry and Elizabeth (Jackels) Schmidt family. Lucy and her younger sister, Loraine, were often mistaken as twins because they looked alike and were in the same grade (Loraine started school early so that they could go together). Lucy entered the Order of the Franciscan Sisters of Charity in Manitowoc after 10th grade, taking her first vows at age 19. Known as Sister Quentin, she cultivated her musical talents, directing church choirs and giving piano lessons. She studied music at Alverno College in Milwaukee and later earned a Master's degree in music education from De Paul University School of Music in Chicago.
After leaving the convent in 1976, Lucy moved to Upper Michigan, where she met her first husband, Harry W. Johnson, a widower with six children. They married on May 29, 1980, and Lucy embraced the role of wife and mother. Lucy and Harry retired to Florida, later moving to Georgia. After Harry's death, Lucy met Daniel Spencer, and they married in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, on February 20, 2004. Lucy and Dan moved several times in Missouri, Wisconsin, and Louisiana before settling in West Monroe over a year ago to be closer to Dan's family.
Lucy's faith was important to her throughout her life. She shared her life's journey in a self-published book, "I Could Have Missed It!" Sharing scripture with Dan brought her much joy.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Harry Johnson; parents and stepmother Mary (Rossmeier) Schmidt; infant brother Andrew; brothers Clarence and Arthur Schmidt; sister Rose Mary Brantmeier; sisters-in-law Jeanne Schmidt, Marian Schmidt, and Lori Schmidt; brothers-in-law Hilard Brantmeier and Donald Brink; stepsister Anne Marie (Francis) Kempen; and stepbrother Jerry Schmidt.
Lucy is survived by Dan, her loving husband of 13 years; brother Leonard Schmidt; sister Loraine Brink; stepbrother Ralph (Grace) Schmidt; stepsister-in-law Ev Schmidt; Johnson stepchildren Kenneth, James, Mary, Philip, Jane, and Connie; sister-in-law Connie Griffith; brother-in-law Tim Spencer; and numerous nieces and nephews in the Schmidt and Spencer families.
Memorials can be sent in memory of Lucy to a charity of your choice .
A private gathering was held in West Monroe, Louisiana. Inurnment will be at Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe.

She married Francis Kempen at St. Francis Church, Hollandtown on June 6, 1950. Together they operated a dairy and poultry farm near Freedom until 1972. They then moved to Kaukauna. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish, and the Ladies of Holy Cross. She worked during city elections and St. Vincent DePaul until 2013. She loved her family and cooking, baking, candy making, gardening and playing cards. She is survived by her husband, Fran; three sons and daughters-in law: Gary (Sherry) Freedom; Joe (Dianne) West Allis; Bernard (Jane) Kaukauna; ten grandchildren: Mary, David (Megan) Kempen, Cathy (Larry) Lambie, Tim (Melissa), Mark (Leah); Scott, Paul (special friend Alexia), Andy (special friend Roxanne), and Lee (Melissa) Kempen, Sarah (Scott) Zuehlke and eleven great-grandchildren. She was born June 18, 193 3, to the late Louis and Helen (Jaeckels) Schmidt in Hollandtown and had b een an area resident all of her life. Rose was the co-owner, for 25 year s, of Flanagan's Party-Port, which opened in 1957 and later was known as F lanagan's Stop & Shop. Following this she opened the Super Slim Diet Salo n, on College Avenue and was then employed by Accurate Alignment. Rose mar ried James T. Baltus on April 14, 1992, in Las Vegas, after knowing each o ther for seven weeks. She was a member of St. Leonard Catholic Church, Lao na.Survivors include her husband, James T. Melvin J. Thiel, age 89, of Chilton, died on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the Chilton Care Center in Chilton. He was born March 3, 1922 in the Town of Woodville, son of the late Matt & Jeanette (Schmidt) Thiel. He married Martha Preissner on September 25, 1945 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Kloten. Before marriage, Melvin worked as a cheese maker at Golden Guernsey and Kolpack Creamery in Quinney. Following his marriage to Martha, they farmed together on the Preissner homestead all their married life and were blessed with 3 daughters. He was a man of strong faith who lived his love of God everyday.
Melvin was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and the former St. Elizabeth Parish where he had been very involved in church activities. Melvin was also actively involved in many other organizations including the Chilton Eagles, Catholic Family, Catholic Knights, the Knights of Columbus, Hi-Hopes Homemakers, Holy Name Society, various card clubs, and he was a frequent Red Cross Blood Donor. Melvin was frequently seen volunteering at the Salvatorian Mission Warehouse and at other community events in the area.
In his free time, Melvin appreciated a good game of cards, wood working, growing potatoes, pumpkins, and strawberries, and piecing together countless jigsaw puzzles. He was a quiet man who led those around him by example. His kind words of encouragement, and dedication to his family were paramount; his living example of love will forever be remembered by his family. His greatest joy was visiting with family and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Melvin was truly the perfect example of a good husband, father, grandfather, farmer and man of faith.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers: Cyril (Margaret) Thiel, Eugene Thiel, and Fr. Lloyd (Vincent) Thiel.
Funeral service will be at 11:30 AM on Monday, October 24, 2011 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton. Burial will be in the St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 2:00 PM until 4:30 PM on Sunday, October 23, 2011 and on Monday at the Church from 10:00 AM until 11:15 AM. The Eagles, Knights of Columbus, and Parish Prayer services will begin Sunday afternoon at the funeral home at 4:30 PM.
Melvin's family would like to thank the staff of the Chilton Care Center, and the Calumet Medical Center for all of the excellent care that was provided; it couldn't have been better or kinder. They would also like to thank all of the many friends and relatives who visited and prayed with and for them during this trying time.

Harold G. Thiel, age 85, of St. John, died on Monday, April 9, 2012 at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. He was born December 4, 1926 in the Town of Woodville, son of the late Mathias & Jeanette (Schmidt) Thiel. He married Dolores M. Scherer on May 17, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sherwood. Harold had farmed his entire life in the Town of Woodville until his retirement in 1990 when the duties of the farm became the responsibility of his son. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where he also belonged to the Holy Name Society and put his love of singing to good use in the church choir. Harold was a 4th Degree Knight, and had been a Past Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus, and had served as President of his Catholic Family Chapter. In his free time, Harold enjoyed bowling in couple's league, and looked forward to taking his lovely bride square dancing. Harold never turned down a chance to play cards; he belonged to many card clubs in the area and thoroughly enjoyed a good round of Sheepshead. He was a hard working man who knew that his labor and toil of the land was a gift from God. His patience and deep faith provided a solid foundation for his family to rely on and learn from. Harold went out of his way to care for the well being of others; he was very generous with his time and talents and freely offered a smile to brighten someone's day. Survivors include his wife: Dolores; his children; Gary (Jeanie) Thiel of Sherwood, Alan (Michelle) Thiel of Sherwood; 4 grandchildren: Andrea (Kevin) Svoboda, Nicole (Aaron) Keim, Vanessa Thiel, & Hayden Thiel; a great-grandchild: Clara Svoboda with another arriving soon; a sister: Alice (Ralph) Steiner; a brother: Leon (Carol) Thiel; and a sister-in-law: Martha Thiel. Fr. Lloyd Thiel, age 80; passed away September 19, 2010. Fr. Lloyd was born in Hilbert, Wisconsin. He was invested in the Capuchin Order 1948, perpetually professed in 1952, and ordained a priest in 1956. He ministered at St. Lawrence Seminary in Mt. Calvary Wisconsin from 1957 - 1973, and was elected provincial minister of the Midwest Capuchin Province in 1973. From 1978 - 1992, Fr. Lloyd served as Director of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit. Before his retirement in 2004, Fr. Lloyd served in the Development Office in Detroit, as well as ministering as a hospital chaplain at Wm. Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. He was also weekend assistant at Sacred Heart Parish in Roseville and Good Shepard Parish in Lincoln Park.
He is survived by his siblings Melvin (Martha) Thiel, Harold (Dolores) Thiel, Alice (Ralph) Steiner, and Leon (Carol) Thiel; several nieces and nephews , and great-nieces and great-nephews, survive.
Father Lloyd is also preceded in death by two brothers, namely Eugene Thiel and Cyril Thiel, by one sister-in-law Margaret Thiel. and by one brother-in-law John Steffes.
Visitation will take place Monday, September 27th from 9 a.m. until the time of the memorial mass 11 a.m. at the St. Lawrence Seminary Chapel, 301 Church St., Mt. Calvary. Arlene C. "Skippy" Schulz, age 73, of 1712 Monroe St. in New Holstein, formerly of Hilbert, died on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at Calumet Medical Center in Chilton.
Born Arlene Christine Mirsberger on Oct. 19, 1931 daughter of the late Leonard and Josephine (Schmidt) Mirsberger.
Skippy grew up on a dairy farm near St. John, Wisconsin attending St. John's Elementary school and graduating from Hilbert High School.
She married Alvin Schulz who preceded her in death.
Skippy enjoyed being with people.
Her jobs in retail enabled her to brighten the days of many customers at Stengels's Sav-Mor, Hilbert Mini-Mart, and Schomburg Hardware. Skippy was also known for hosting great parties at her Hilbert home. As an involved parishioner at St. Mary's in Hilbert, Skippy shared her gifts there as well.
Skippy is survived by a brother-in-law, Clem Kolbe; nephews, Rick (Susan) Kolbe, Mark Kolbe, Roger (Cheri) Kolbe, Ron (Sandi) Kolbe and Gerald Kolbe; a niece, Carol (Pete) Mueller; and very special friend, Ken Greve. She is further survived by 11 grand nieces and nephews and by numerous friends throughout Calumet County and the surrounding area. Skippy was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Grace Kolbe; an infant brother, Ralph Mirsberger; and one grand nephew.

Earl L. Schmidt, 62, Kaukauna, died unexpectedly Friday, July 11, 2008, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born in Appleton on May 28, 1946, to the late Lawrence and Loretta (Ashauer) Schmidt. On Oct. 14, 1967, Earl married Ann Liebergen at St. Mary Parish in Greenleaf. He was a member of St. Aloysius Parish in Kaukauna. Earl enjoyed fishing and traveling. He loved spending time with his family and was an especially proud Grandpa. Earl had recently retired.
Earl is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ann; three children, Kristine (David) Tadych, Greg (Amy) Schmidt and Robert (special friend, Jennifer) Schmidt, all of Kaukauna; six grandchildren, David, Crystal and Amanda Tadych, Sydney, Hayden and Samantha Schmidt; sisters and brothers, Ruthie Lemke, Joan (Steve) Woldt, Paul (Debbie) Schmidt, Alan (Donna) Schmidt, Rose Heegeman and Neil Schmidt; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin (Carol) Liebergen, Gordon (Bonnie) Liebergen, Theresa (Ray) Rozmarenowski and Ben Rottier. He married the former Barbara Hoehne on October 16, 19 71 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. She survives. Jerry worked as a heavy eq uipment operator, was a member of Local Operating Engineers Union #139 a nd contributed his time and skill to the building of much of the Fox Citie s. Jerry enjoyed his workshop, where he could engage his mechanical min d. He recently realized his dream of owning an RV and traveling around t he United States. Carol (Bies) Sanderfoot, 59, Combined Locks, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at home. She was born March 18, 1948, daughter of the late Raymond and Agnes (Schmidt) Bies.
She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Jerry; two daughters, Lisa Sanderfoot, De Pere; and Amy (Kevin) Carstens, Suamico; two grandchildren, Anna and Erik Carstens; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Raymond (Mary Ellen) Bies, Cedarburg; Donald (Ann) Bies, Neenah; and Barbara Bies, Little Chute. Carol has left us. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, friend and teacher. All of us will miss her dearly. Whenever I look at my daughters and grandchildren, I will see their mother and grandmother. I know Carol has touched many lives and I will always remember her that way. I wish she were still here to enjoy life, but I know her pain and suffering has ended. Many times Carol had told me that she was too young to die. She had so many things that she wanted to do with Lisa, Amy, Anna, Erik, friends and students. Last Saturday, on our way home from the gymnastics meet and hockey game, she said that it was the little things in life that mean so much. Remember Carol for all the different lives she has affected in a truly positive way...
