Obituary:
Violet Irene (Nagreen, Raess, Bray) Gauerke, age 90, of Appleton passed away Saturday, March 31, 2007. She was born on April 29, 1916, in Appleton to Charles and Mary (Neisius) Nagreen. She has been a resident of Appleton all her life. She graduated from Appleton High School, which was the Morgan School, with the class of 1934.
Violet was formerly employed by the Appleton School District as Payroll Clerk at Morgan Building. Elden Broehm was also in that office. She retired in July 1976. She was previously employed by the Institute of Paper Chemistry, City Clerk's Office, and First English Lutheran Church as a secretary. Violet married Roy G. Raess on October 26, 1940. He passed away in November 1971. She married Willard Bray on July 7, 1973. He passed away in August, 1980. Violet was married to Erwin Gauerke on November 7, 1981. Erwin passed away on March 10, 1998. All three marriages were solemnized at First English Lutheran Church; Pastors F. C. Reuter, Leonard Ziemer, and A. E. Norson.
She has been an active member of First English Lutheran Church: the Judith Circle, Altar Guild, and Counting Member. She is also a member of two Rook circles, and a member of Women of the Moose, Chapter #404, filling a chairman chair every year, since 1973. Violet also has been a national and local Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons, Chapter #287 since 1973, filling a chairperson every year, first as Membership Chairman and now Sunshine Chairman as of June 2001.
Violet is survived by a daughter, Cassandra Anne (Alan) Erdmann-Rothlisberg, Kansas; a son: James (Diana) Raess, Couer d'Alene, Idaho; seven grandchildren: Patrick Erdmann, Madison; Jennifer (Todd) Wolfe, Olympic Valley, CA; John Raess, Grafton, WI; Robert (Amy) Ziehm, Plymouth, WI, and their children, Jared, Parker, and Brianna; Jodi (Dan) Vollbrecht, Elkhorn, WI and their children, Austin, Rebecca, Rachel, and Andrew; Steven Raess of Tempe, Arizona; and Danniel Layner and her child, Brandon of Tempe, Arizona; step-children: Edward (Joan) Gauerke, Townsend; Norbert (Ardis) Gauerke, Hortonville; Ruth Rucks and Larry (Jeralyn) Gauerke, Appleton; step-grandchildren: Jeffrey (Lisa) Gauerke, Appleton; Debbie (Jeff) Herrernon, Shawano; John (Rhonda) Gauerke, Merryfield, MN; Deanne Gauerke, Green Bay; James (Patty) Gauerke, Forest Lake, MN; friends, Jim (Judy) Ziehm of Waldo. She is further survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Eva Nagreen and Harriet Theisen; and brother Romey Nagreen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at First English Lutheran Church with Pastor Mike Dismer officiating. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for First English Lutheran Church Renovation Fund.
