Obituary:
Jane E. Fischer, age 99, passed away on July 7, 2015 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Little Chute. Jane was born February 1, 1916 in Appleton, daughter of the late Louis and Matilda (Harold) Schweitzer, and she resided in Appleton all her life.
On May 18, 1946, she was united in marriage to Sylvester W. Fischer at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton, sharing 55 years together. He preceded her in death January 3, 2002. Jane was a life member of St. Joseph Church and participated in activities with the Ladies of St. Joseph and many school programs. She was a 40-year member of the Girl Scouts and was a Junior and Cadette leader at St. Joseph School. Jane was employed by Elm Tree Baking Co. for 17 years as secretary and bookkeeper.
Jane loved the outdoors and participated in many sports. She liked to feed and watch the birds and had many flowers and plants inside and outside her home. She and her husband enjoyed being with family and friends at their cottage in Marinette County. She was happiest when she was with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved them all very much.
She is survived by her daughter: Mary Ellen (Keith) Szafranski, MT; two sons: Richard J. (Sharon) Fischer, Neenah, and Gerard H. (Helen) Fisher, Little Chute; brother: John Schweitzer, Appleton; seven grandchildren: Richard (Stacy) Fischer, Neenah, Laura Fischer, Oconomowoc, Kimberly (Blaine) Taylor, Livingston, KY, Kevin (Veronica) Szafranski, Minot, SD, Kristine (John) Olson, WA, and Nicholas and Anthony Fischer, Little Chute. She is also survived by cousins, many nieces and nephews, and good friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Jane was preceded in death by three sisters: infant sister, Margaret, Bernice Buzanowski, and Reta Timmers; brother H.L. "Dan" Schweitzer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Anton Buzanowski, Jerry Timmers, Clarence and Beatrice Fischer, Cecilia and John Michalkiewicz, Amelia and George Alger, Marianne Fischer, Midge Schweitzer, Hazel Schweitzer, and Kenneth and Estella Fischer; and a great-grandson: Richard Daniel Fischer.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, July 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father James Leary OFM Cap officiating. Friends may visit directly at the church on Friday from 9 am until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
