    Obituary:
    Robert A. Promer Sr., 86, Kaukauna, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 at the Appleton Medical Center. He was born Sept. 12, 1918, in Kaukauna, to Herman and Mary (DeBruin) Promer, attended Holy Cross School, and lived in Kaukauna his entire life. On May 8, 1941, he married the former Ethel Gussert. Together they raised three sons and two daughters. Bob served in the United States Navy during World War II at the Great Lakes Naval base in Waukegan, Illinois, and then was moved to Treasure Island where he was deployed to Australia. He was recently recognized for fifty-four continuous years as a member of the Kaukauna American Legion Post #41 and was a lifetime member of the Electric City VFW Post #3319. Bob was also a life member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Holy Cross Catholic Church. Bob spent many days watching the eagles at 1000 Islands Environmental Center and was lifetime member of the Center, as well as being a member of the Kaukauna Moose Lodge. Bob was one of the first drywall contractors in the Valley, and he and Ethel are the owners of the Promer Village Apartments in Kaukauna. He was well known in Kaukauna for his many jokes, keen wit, and his political viewpoints. He loved to make people laugh, enjoyed fishing, and hunting with his sons and grandsons. In his younger years, he was an avid bowlers, and never forgot his buddies who bowled together for over thirty years at Reynebeau's Lanes in Little Chute.
    He is survived by wife, Ethel; children Donald (Rachel) Promer, Appleton; Dick (Jean) Promer, Bob (Jane) Promer, Mary (Dan) Biesterveld, all of Kaukauna, and Marlene Tennessen and her friend Gene Kostrzak, Readfield; grandchildren, Lisa (Glen) Kolarik, Jeff (Tricia) Promer, Rick Promer, Stacy (Steve) Hlinak, Brian Van Asten, Chad Promer, Ray (Vicki) Van Asten, Scott (Kim) Tennessen, Jim (Liz) Promer, Lynn (Mike) Ramel, Cory Promer, and Shawn (Amy) Promer; Diane (Andy) Huebner, Duane Biesterveld, Dana (Alex) Parker, Andrea Jungwirth, and Jodi (Ken) VanMaastricht; his great-grandchildren, Gavin, Nathan, Gabe, Jennifer, Tyler, Hunter, Cody, Brock, Macy, Natalie, Lexus, Alexander, Katelyn, Elizabeth, Tia, Ty, and Trey, who were the apples of his eye; two brothers, Art Promer, Bellflower, California and Ray (Vi) Promer, Montague, Michigan; a sister-in-law: Florence Gussert Jansen, Kaukauna, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be sadly missed by them all.
    He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Herman Promer, three infant granddaughters Ann, Mary, and Lora Lynn Promer, brothers: Herman Promer, Jr. and Norbert (Alice) Promer; two sisters-in-law Mildred Promer and Roseann Gertz; two brothers-in-law: Jim Jansen and Jim Gertz; Ethel's parents Ed and Rosella Gussert; and a niece: Laurie Gertz.
    The funeral liturgy for Bob will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna, with Fr. Jack Mullarkey and Fr. Bob Kabat officiating. Military honors will be provided by the members of the Kaukauna American Legion and V.F.W. Posts, and interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. again at the church on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of the service. The family has established a memorial fund in Bob's name for Kaukauna's Grignon Mansion.

    Word was received by Mr. and Mrs. Herman Promer, Draper Street, Kaukauna from the war department of the death of their son, Private Herman Promer, Jr., 19. He was killed in action on D-Day June 6, in France. Private Promer served with the paratroopers, enlisted in the service February 19, 1943.

    Obituary:
    Funeral services will be held this morning at 9:30 at Holy Cross church for Private Herman Promer who was killed in action in the Normandy invasion. The remains of Private Promer arrived in Kaukauna Monday morning and was met by the combined VFW and American Legion firing squad, color bearers and other servicemen of the city. Promer was killed in France in 1944 when he was serving as a member of the 508 Parachute Infantry of the 82 Airborne division. He had been interned in a temporary military cemetery in France and was returned to this country at the request of his parents.

    Was first buried in France, then brought to the US and buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna in may 1948 at the request of his parents.

    Mary Ellen Powell, age 96, formerly of Kaukauna, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 25, 2009, at Appleton Medical Center. She was born May 9, 1912, in Kaukauna to the late Charles and Irene (Chauveneau) Promer. On December 29, 1936, she was united in marriage to James "Herbert" Powell at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna where she was a lifelong member. Marie graduated from Kaukauna High School and Outagamie County Teachers College. She devoted her life to taking care of her family and children. Marie was an excellent seamstress and made the best cookies.
    She is survived by her husband Herbert to whom she was a devoted wife of 72 years; she was the loving mother to: Rosalie (Dr. Thomas) Hennes, Neenah and Shirley (Roger) Larsen, Appleton; she was "Granny Rea" to: Diane (Kevin) Heimerman, Scott (Bonnie) Hennes, Patrick (Beth) Hennes, Michael Hennes, Gregory Hennes, Brian Larsen, Yvette Verhagen, Renee Seidl, and Laurie Campshure; great grandmother to 14, great great grandmother to ten; two sisters-in-law: Muriel Powell and Doris Powell. She is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant twin sister, a sister, Agnes Brech and a brother, Charles Promer, Jr.
    The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 30, 2009, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna, with Fr. Michael O'Rourke officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will take place in the Parish Cemetery.     Roger Ray Promer - Lansing Age 76, passed away, Tuesday, April 22, 2014, surrounded by his family.
    Roger was born March 5, 1938, in Kaukauna, WI, the son of Raymond and Violet (Leach) Promer. A graduate of St. Mary's High School in 1956, Roger went on to graduate from Michigan State University. He worked as a CPA for many years retiring from Maner, Costerisan, & Ellis. He was a member of St.
    Gerard Catholic Church, JCs, Optimist Club and the AICPA. Roger was preceded in death by his mother, Violet Promer, and two sons, Jeff and Jim Promer. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jeri; children, Julie (Jim) Roberts, Jody (Marlene) Promer, Jon Promer and Jason Promer; brother, Larry (Percy) Promer; sister, Linda Middleton; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
    Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be Saturday, April 26, 2014, 1:30 PM at St. Gerard Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. John Klein as celebrant. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends, Friday, April 25, 2014, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Delta Chapel where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to service on Saturday. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society in memory of Roger.
