    Obituary:
    Edward C. Jacobs, age 72, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 19, 2015. Ed was born in Appleton on July 17, 1943 to the late John and Esther (Reitz) Jacobs. He is a graduate of Appleton High School. Ed proudly served his country in the United State Navy during the Vietnam War. On April 5, 1975, he married Gertrude White at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. Ed owned and operated the family business, Jacobs Meat Market, for over 40 years, retiring in 2007. He enjoyed telling jokes, playing horseshoes, bird watching, and relaxing on his swing at the family cottage on Lake Winneconne.
    Ed is survived by Trude, Appleton; and their seven children: Christina (Lee) Butterworth, Minneapolis, MN, Betsy (Kirk) Bacus, Greenville, Emily (LeRoy) DePas, Madison, Luke (Angela) Jacobs, Appleton, Carol (Eric) West, Appleton, Bobby (friend Kristen) Jacobs, Pensacola, FL, and Jeni (friend Joe) Jacobs, Menasha; and 14 grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews including Debbie Brooks of Kaukauna. In his later years, Ed enjoyed the companionship of his friend Sherry Wiseman.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Delores Hurley, and nephew Charles Hurley.
    A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, December 26, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St., Appleton, followed by full military honors performed by Appleton Legion Post 38. Friends may visit directly at the church on Saturday from 9 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
    The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many family and friends who have visited with Ed to enjoy memories, making his smile bright and bringing him comfort.
