    It is understood that John died at an early age. She worked in a gener al store in Skotfos, Skien Norway after the death of her husband until 1905. Marie came to Chicago on October 10, 1905, after she came to the States (she was living with her sister in Chicago, two or three other sisters stayed in Norway and were spinsters). While in Chicago Marie worked in a dress making establishment. By this means she earned a living and sent her daughters to school. Marie answered an ad in a Chicago newspaper, a well to do farmer was looking for someone to take care of his famil y. She went to Stanley in 1911to take care of Mr. Ole Haugen's children. Ole Haugen was looking for a women to marry, in name only, to take care of his children, there were many, possibly five from the first marriage and two or three from the second marrage.

    Notes:

    Kathryn came to the United States in 1905, she was 12 years old. Her father had passed away,she and her mother and younger sister Olga came to Chicago on October 10, 1905. She became a milliner and her younger sister worked in the advertising department of the Chicago Daily Tribune. In 1911 her mother moved from Chicago to Stanley, WI., she was the house keeper for a well-to-do farmer, Ole Haugen, a widower. They were then married, as it wasn't considered proper for a woman to be living at a man's home outside of a marriage union. After reciveing information of late (12/07/96) I'm not sure where Kathryn was born, if it was Trondheim or Ranheim. I cannot find Ranheim on the map. I do not remember very much of Grandma other than she was in bed all the time because she had had a stroke, I was only six when she passed away at the young age of 55

    Never did know Uncle Al very well, he moved to CA when I was ve ry young, do remember their house on Wilkie in Appleton. Knew him mo re in his later years cause he and Aunt Mary would come to Appleton to vis it every fall and we would all get together once or twice while they we re here. He was a good ole guy, enjoyed our children and their childre n, always made sure they got to see them when they were here. He look ed a great deal like his father

    Mom, she's just mom. She worked very hard as a young women. I remember g oing to softball games and sitting with mom while dad played and we wou ld go to Pickles Tavern in Kaukauna after the games.They also bowled and Butch Deltgen and I would have the same sitter becau se we lived upstairs on Randall St and they lived downstairs. We mov ed in with Grandpa Solie after Aunt Carole and Uncle Riley were married a nd there my brother Jeffery Steven Storch was born. That was fun, I w as in 5th grade.We moved to 2012 Owaissa St later and Grandpa moved with us. We we nt to alot of Foxes games and mom and dad took our children to the games w hen they got older, they enjoyed that alot. They also made sure that th ey all got a ride on a real train in their younger days. They were alwa ys good to the kids when they were young. We spent many a Sunday over the re watching the Packers and having Sunday dinner with them. After our chi ldren grew and were getting too big we would have Sunday dinner at our ho use. Than we bought the condo and spent alot of week ends up there. On Se ptember 26th, 1998 mom scared all of us, she had congestive heart failur e, dad got her to hospital, we were in Door County, came home in the midd le of the night. She seems to be doing better now, regulating medication.

    Mrs. Willard F. Storch, (Roma A. Solie) 2012 N. Owaissa St ., AppletonAge 81, died Friday morning, May 5, 2000. She was born October 27, 191 8, to the late Gus and Kathrine (Stene) Solie in Cornell, Wisconsin, and h ad been an Appleton resident all of her life. Roma had been employed in t he office by Fox River Paper for about 15 years. She enjoyed playing go lf and swimming with her husband. Roma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Ch urch for over 50 years and volunteered at Appleton Medical Center. Roma w as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and wi ll be deeply missed. Survivors include her husband, Willard F. Storc h, to whom she had been married for nearly 61 years; a daughter and son-in -law: Lynn and Dick Miller, Sister Bay; four grandchildren, Terri Mille r, Appleton Michael (Peggy) Miller, Wauwatosa; Mark (Pat) Miller, Appleto n; Julie (Jeff) Braun, Appleton; 13 great-grandchildren: Jeffrey, Jason, V anessa, Olivia, Grace, Aubrie, Katie, Sarah, Sean, Ann, Gwen, Blair and Ha nnah; three sisters-in-law: Mary Solie, Palo Alto, California; Carole Soli e, Appleton; Mary Storch, Kaukauna. She was preceded in death by her infa nt son, Jeffrey and two brothers: Allen and Riley Solie. Funeral servic es for Roma will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHUR CH, 209 S. Allen Street, with the Reverend Chris Lee-Thompson officiatin g. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the f uneral home from 4:30-7 p.m. Monday and on Tuesday at the church from 10 a .m. until the time of service.     See Image Riley F. Solie, 914 E. Hancock St. Appleton Age 71 passed away unexpectedly at Reid Municipal Golf Course, Thursday June 24, 1993. He was born January 11, 1922 in Cornell, WI the son of the late Gustav A. and Kathryn (Stein) Solie. On August 21, 1948 Riley married the former Carole A. Wilpolt in Kaukauna, she survives. A 1949 graduate of Lawrence College, Riley was employed for many years by ForeWay Express as a truck driver. He currently was working part time as a courier for Bay Title and Abstract. Riley served his country as a pilot during World War II in the United States Marine Corps and was a faithful member of St. Thomas Moore Cathlic Church.     Biography:
    Uncle Riley was a kind generous man and he certainly did gi ve me many fond memories. We used to walk to the Quaker Dairy Store on Me ade Street just north of Wisconsin Ave and bring the milk bottles ba ck to the store, get some milk and more often than not we would get an i ce cream cone. He taught me how to draw, I remember one time, oh I must h ave been about 7 or 8, he had me draw a house that we could see on Meade S t. from Grandma Solies dining room window, I must have drawn that house 1 00 times, he said I must draw just what I see, to this day I can draw a bu ilding pretty good, Thanks Uncle Ri.He died all too soon and too suddenly, however enjoying his game of golf.

    Obituary:
    Gloria June Berg, 90, of Eau Claire, went home to her Lord and Savior on Friday September 13th 2013 from the Clairemont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The 3rd child of Anton and Olga (Stene) Long, she was born June 29th, 1923. She grew up in Stanley, Wisconsin attending Lincoln Elementary school and graduated in 1941 from Stanley High School. She then went to Milwaukee where she attended Browns School of Business. Upon graduation and moving back to the Eau Claire area, she took a job with Zenith Sales. She then met and married Eugene Berg on February 14th 1954.
    The two began to raise their family of 5 daughters. Between running a household and being a taxi service, taking her girls here and there, she never forgot her animal friends. Many times after a storm, she would go outside and sometimes find a little bird that had fallen from its' nest, take it in and nurture it until it could survive on its' own. The Berg household was never lacking for animals of any kind.
    She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and her ability to always be there for her family, friends and animals, but most of all, her love of God.
    She is survived by her daughters, Toni (Chip) Eckardt, Joni Franson, Lori (Ed) Butenschoen, Shari (Erin) Steller, Nikki (Jack) Eischen and "like a daughter," Susan Eckardt. Her grandchildren, Stephanie Berg, Joshua (Becky) McMahon, Spencer Franson, Holly (Keefe) Bauschelt, Kirsten (Luke) Markham, Timothy Payne, Pamela (Craig) Ermatinger, Gloralene Anderson and 3 great grandchildren, Jordin, Alexandra and Hannah. She is further survived by a sister May Bleke and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Berg, her parents Anton and Olga Long, her brother Robert Long and son-in-law Ronny Franson.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Gloria's memory to Bobs House for Dogs, P.O. Box 15, Eau Claire, WI 54702.
    A Special Thank You to the nurses and staff at the Clairemont for their efforts and caring support along with the many residents who offered their love and support.
    Funeral services will take place at 2 pm on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54703. Visitation will take place at the church on Thursday from 12:00 pm (noon) until the time of service. Burial will take place immediately following the service in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire.
