    Obituary:
Germaine M. Wyngaard "Gerry," age 89, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2010 at American Grand. She was born, January 17, 1921, on the DeBruin homestead farm located on DeBruin in Kaukauna, to the late Henry and Henrietta (DeBruin) DeBruin. Gerry was a lifelong resident of Kaukauna graduating from Kaukauna High School. She worked at Kimberly Clark Paper Mill in Kimberly for 5 years where she met her husband Louis to whom she was proudly married to for 53 years. She was a breast cancer survivor. Gerry ran an out of home income tax business and was a Queen of Peace choir member. She was a deer hunter with a number of trophies to prove her excellent marksmanship. Gerry enjoyed escaping to their place "Up North" for campfires, fishing trips, and walks around the circle. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her well organized get-togethers molded us into a close family unit. Gerry's six children will forever treasure the love, strength, and wisdom she bestowed on each of them as individuals. She cherished the time she could spend with Dad escaping to their place "Up North" for relaxation and time to be in the outdoors. Gerry's most treasured memories came from her deer hunting adventures with Dad (Louis) and the time she could spend with him on special vacations and trips.
She is survived by her children: Cindy Wyngaard, Kaukauna, Donna (Jim) Wentzel, Chilton, Patty Wyngaard, Colorado, Dave (Sandy) Wyngaard, Sobieski, Warren (special friend Shannon) Wyngaard, Forest Junction, Wayne (Shawn) Wyngaard, Little Chute; six grandchildren: Sam (Jamie) Wentzel and Aaron Wentzel, Stephanie (Bryon) Ullmer, Matthew (Danielle) Wyngaard, Jennifer Wyngaard and Becky (Jason) Arnoldussen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; a daughter-in-law, Toni Wyngaard; six sisters: Imelda (Donald) Huhn, Martha (Edwin) Schug, Ann (Frank) Fisher, Nellie (Clifton) Hughes, Marie (Leo) Gillen, and Bernetta (William) Judd; four brothers: Ben (Bernetta), Peter (Veronica), Edward (Bessy), and Joseph (Marge).

Mom lived at the American Grand Assisted Living Facility for the past year and with the help of their loving and caring staff, they provided a warm and friendly home environment.
We are holding you close in thought and prayer as you find rest in God's promise of eternal life.

    Obituary:
Henry (Hank) DeBruin passed away peacefully on October 14, 2010, at Appleton Medical Center at age 73. Hank was very active and still physically strong, but his heart decided it was time. He lived his life as an outdoorsman, and recently recalled his fond memories as a young boy fishing in the flats area of Appleton, along the Fox River.
After serving in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957, Hank later was married twice and had five children, by which he is survived by three sons, John (Jennifer) DeBruin, George (Lisa) DeBruin and Delvin DeBruin, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a brother and a sister.
Hank was a unique individual with many interests and activities. He was an experienced cement finisher and worked many large construction projects, including travels as far as Saudi Arabia for such. He was also an experienced scuba diver and welder, for which he also performed many dangerous tasks.
Outside of work, Hank lived for the outdoors and resided most of his years at various wooded lands just outside the Fox Valley. He loved hunting and fishing and being close to nature. He built or restored many houses, with projects ongoing through his final days. Hank loved sailing and once built a 50 foot sailboat from scratch, afterwards sailing the Gulf of Mexico for six years fishing for shark and grouper. He loved the quest for lost and buried treasure and held mineral rights in New Mexico, where he still hoped to visit and search for gold. In 1980, he built a two-person submarine by his own hands to explore deeper depths where sunken ships or treasure lie yet unexplored. He appreciated art and antiques and would dive in local rivers collecting old bottles. Hank also had a passion for history and culture, especially in regard to Egyptian, Native and American history. Hank's lifelong collection included found arrowheads, natural minerals, meteor fragments, and rings and coins found while searching with his metal detectors. Hank will forever be remembered and loved by those close to him.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at Wichmann Funeral Home with interment at Riverside Cemetery to follow.

Parachute Delivery Officer. Air America. Became a POW when he parachuted to safety from a C-46 that had been shot down over Laos.
He is known to have been a POW at a Pathet Lao prison camp in Laos. He and other prisoners attempted to escape twice from the camp. He was recaptured on his 1st escape attempt and he is listed as MIA as a result of his second escape attempt in 1966.
Served in USAF as an Aviation Mechanic from 1952-1956.
Served in Bureau of Land Management as a Smoke Jumper for 3 years in Alaska and Montana.
Eugene DeBruin was portrayed by Jeremy Davies in Werner Herzog's 2007 film Rescue Dawn.

    News Mention:
In September of 1963, Eugene DeBruin of Kaukauna was shot down and taken prisoner in Laos. At the end of the Vietnam War no negotiations were made for the prisoners held in Laos. Over the past 50 years our government has never made a formal request for him of any of the other estimated 600 people that were left behind in that country. Please say a prayer for these poor people that were left behind.

    News Mention:
Eugene DeBruin of Kaukauna, whose plane was shot down by communist in Laos several weeks ago, has been reported by Air America to be alive but a prisoner.
DeBruin, 30, was a crew member of the Air America plane which was shot down by the Pathet Lao on September 5 in northern Laos. He was one of three Americans abroad the plane. The Pathet Lao mentioned Eugene's name last Saturday as the only survivor. Senator Nelson (Dem) Wisconsin later contacted the DeBruin's and told them the state department was negotiating for the release of Eugene. No information was available as to whether he was injured.

    News Mention:
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph DeBruin received word that their son, Eugene DeBruin, 30, presently a prisoner of the pro-communist Pathet Lao troops, will be released soon. DeBruin's plane was shot down over Laos on Sept 5 while dropping supplies. He was one of five that survived the crash. The announcement was made by Prince Souphanouvong, Pathet Lao leader, according to AP press dispatches. Information received stated he was being treated well by his captures. Air America, the concern which DeBruin was affiliated, has suspended its operations in Laos.
Update January 2010 - Information released through the U.S. freedom of information act confirms that Air America was operated by the C.I.A. during the Vietnam War. The U.S. would not negotiate with Laos for the release of POW's. Eugene and over 300 other prisoners were never released.
