    George very proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II from 1941 through 1945 as a Staff Sargent with the 3rd Armored Spearhead Division. He fought in five major battles in the European Theatre of Operations. This included the Normandy Invasion at Omaha Beach which he volunteered for, the Ardennes, The Battles of the Bulge, Rhineland, Central Europe, and was the first division into Germany when they liberated a slave labor camp.

    He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in Ground Combat, the European Campaign Medal with four Bronze Battle Stars; a Purple Heart with two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters; the American Defense Service Medal; the American Campaign Medal; the Combat Infantry Badge; the World War II Victory Medal; a Sharpshooters Badge with Rifle Bar; a Good Conduct Medal; a Honorable Service Lapel Button; four Overseas Service Stripes; and one Service Stripe for Leader of Men.     Staff Sgt. George Noie received his honorable discharge from Fort Sheridan Illinois after completing four years of service in the Army, two of which were spent overseas and the European theater of operations. He was attached to the 36th infantry Regiment of the third armored division. The former staff Sgt. has been awarded the following decorations, ETO ribbon with five bronze stars, the American defense ribbon, good conduct ribbon, Purple Heart with two clusters, combat infantry badge and the presidential unit citation. Noie was wounded at Normandy in June 1944, in Belgium January 1945 and in Germany March 7, 1945.
    Pfc. Madelyn Noie arrived home Friday evening from the Marine Corps Air Station at Mojave, Calif. to spend a 15-day furlough here. George and Madelyn are the son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Noie Depot Street.

    George B. Noie, age 92, of Appleton, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Appleton Medical Center, with his family at his side. George was born on March 14, 1919, in Kaukauna, to the late Frank and Nellie (Weyenberg) Noie, one of nine children. In 1942 he married Audrey Mitchler (Noie) and together they raised their family of four children.

After the war George completed a four-year apprentice ship in carpentry under the GI Bill. He was an outstanding finish carpenter and cabinet maker
    George treasured the time with his family and the great get togethers. He also enjoyed going to the events of the grandchildren and great grandchildren and the good times at their trailer at Evergreen Campsites at Lake Kussel and the trips taken together. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards - especially a poker game - and special memories of having season tickets to the Packer games. He was also a fan of the Badgers, Brewers and Bucks.
    George and Audrey enjoyed traveling and going to stage shows at different Performing Arts Centers and Tour Bus trips. They especially enjoyed the 14 winters they spent in Arizona. They also did Arts and Crafts in their spare time and had many craft shows over years.
    George is survived by his children, Sheri (Cliff) Doering, Cindy (Tom) Steffl, Jeff (Barbara) Noie, and George Noie, Jr.; his grandchildren, Brian (Susan) Helf, Aericka Helf (Mary Frohna), Chris (Tanya) Steffl, Phil (Ali) Noie, Kim (Jason) Noie, Jordan Noie, Jason Noie; his great grandchildren, Joseph Helf, Alyssa Noie, Carson Adrian, and Ashton Steffl.
    He is further survived by his two sisters, Lynn Weisgerber and Peg Flynn; and a very special niece, Lisa Lemberg; seven God children, his sisters-in-law, Jeanne Lemberg and Ethel Mitchler; and his brother-in-law, Dale Mitchler.
    George was preceded in death by his siblings, Marie (Oliver) Miller, Gen (Melvin) Walsh, Trudy (Mark) Kubat; his brothers, Norbert (Adele) Noie, Harold (Mirelda) Noie and John (Christine) Noie; his brothers-in-law, Jim Weisgerber, Tom Flynn, Jack Lemberg and Bill Mitchler; and a very dear Godchild, David Lemberg and a nephew Jim Walsh.
    George was a longtime member of St. Joseph parish in Appleton where he served as an usher in his younger years. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2012, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 W. Lawrence Street, Appleton, with Fr. Jim Leary, OFM. CAP. officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. A memorial has been established in George's name to benefit St. Joseph Parish. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the wonderful people who cared for George at Appleton Medical Center and at Brewster Village. Words can't say how grateful we are for all of the special care you gave him. We will always remember your kindness. We also want to thank Dr. Steven Hagen and Dr. Steve Coenen and their nurses who took such good care of George over the years. Wichmann
