    Mr. Leonard J. "Lenny" Heckner, 79 of Redgranite, formerly of Neenah, died Saturday afternoon, August 11, 2007 at the Berlin Memorial Hospital, following a courageous battle to regain his health following a heart attack he suffered Christmas eve day, 2006.
    He was born in Appleton on April 7, 1928, the son of Edward and Margaret Reese Heckner. He married Carol J. Kruse August 12, 1950 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Neenah. Carol survives.
    Lenny was raised in Menasha and was a 1946 Graduate of Menasha High School. He served his Country in the U.S. Navy following his high school graduation. He was employed at the former Gilbert Paper Co. in Menasha for almost 40 years until his retirement in May of 1990.
    Lenny was a faithful, active member of St. Mark's Faith Community in Redgranite. He was a Liturgical Assistant for Funerals. He was also a Wine Minister for the Eucharist. He was proud to become an "altar boy" (Mass Server) at age 69. He was not able to become a server in his youth due to polio. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 56 years since 1951, first in Menasha, and recently in Redgranite. Lenny was an avid golfer. One of his life's ambitions was realized when he made a "hole in one" at twin Oaks Golf Course in Wautoma last year.
    Lenny was a Chicago Cubs fan, but became a Brewer's fan, when the Brewers joined the National League. He was also a Green Bay Packers fan. He had been a Leader for Boy Scout Troup #74 of Neenah. He enjoyed camping and fishing, but most of all, he adored has family, especially his granddaughters. He enjoyed playing Cribbage with his oldest granddaughter.
    The Heckners enjoyed camping in the Redgranite area for 10 years, from 1981 to 1991 and met so many nice people; they decided to move here in 1991.
    Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Carol; a daughter, Donna (Walter) Lamacki of Mount Morris; 2 sons, Bruce (Denise) Heckner, and Daniel Hecker, both of Neenah, and 2 granddaughters, Breanna and Samantha Heckner. Also surviving are a sister, Kathy (Tom) Grether of Kaukauna, a brother, William (Joyce) Heckner of Janesville, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and good friends and golfing buddies.
    Lenny was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Lorraine, who died in her youth.
    A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. Heckner Tomorrow, Thursday, August 16, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Redgranite. Father Joseph Mattern and Karen Nesbit, Parish Director will be the Presiders. Following the Mass, Lenny will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors in St. Mark's Parish Cemetery, Redgranite. There will be a time of gathering and visitation at St. Mark's Church one hour prior to the Mass on Thursday (Tomorrow). There will also be a time of fellowship at St. Mark's Parish Hall following the Cemetery Services.
    There will be a brief Knights of Columbus Service prior to the Mass on Thursday, under the auspices of Saint Mark-Sacred Heart Knights of Columbus Council #13083.
    Mass offerings will be greatly appreciated in place of flowers.

    William C. Heckner, Janesville, Menasha, age 75, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by his family on Sunday. Born December 31, 1932, in Appleton, WI, to Margaret (Rees) and Edward Heckner. Graduated from Menasha High School 1951. He married his High School sweetheart, Joyce Mollet, on January 23, 1954. At age 30, his desire was to get a college education to become a teacher. He went to UW-Fox Valley extension Menasha. Working 6 days a week at a paper mill the 11-7 shift and going to school during the day. He received his Associate degree in 2 years and then went on to UW-Oshkosh where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He then taught in the Menasha public schools. When he received a scholarship, he returned to UW-Oshkosh and got his Masters degree. He then taught Jr. and Sr. High School level Social Studies at the Wisconsin School for the Visually Handicapped for 25 years. He received his certification to teach the visually handicapped from Northern Illinois University.
    Bill had a beautiful voice. He sang in the church and the barbershop choirs in Menasha and the Janesville-Beloit barbershop. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling and his yard. He was a lifelong Cubs fan and went to many Cubs games with his son. He enjoyed teaching and taking his students to Washington, D.C. every year for Close-Up. A kind man who was a loving husband and father. He worked hard to accomplish his goals in life and never gave up. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Janesville.
    He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; a daughter, Susan (Gary) Woldt of Appleton; a son, David Heckner of Janesville; a grandson, Shane (Nicole) Dessart of Menasha; two step-grandchildren, Sara Woldt and Ryan Woldt; and a great-granddaughter, Magdelina Dessart.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Leonard.
    Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, in the chapel at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton.
