Marie J. Geiger, age 98, of Watertown, was called to her eternal rest on Friday afternoon, December 1, 2006, at Golden Living Center in Watertown, where she resided for the past six month. Daughter of the late John Gieschen and Ann (nee Bieck) she was born September 2, 1908, in Root Creek (Milwaukee, WI). She married Walter Geiger on May 3, 1941, in Milwaukee. Marie attended St. John Lutheran Grade School in Milwaukee where her father was a teacher. She also attended the Old Lutheran High School in Milwaukee. After graduation she worked for 14 years as a bookkeeper at E.H. Karrer Company, a medical supply business in Milwaukee. Following her marriage to Walter, they lived briefly in Cedarburg, Milwaukee, Fort Atkinson and Lake Mills. Then in 1952, they moved to Watertown and joined St. Mark's Lutheran Church. In 1956, she entered the work force again, this time as a bookkeeper for Voss Motors in Watertown. Marie was employed there for 14 years until she retired at the age of 62.
She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Watertown. Marie played the piano and loved music. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include a son, Rev. Philip (Jeanne) Geiger, a pastor in Bonduel, WI; a daughter, Ellen Geiger, Watertown, who retired several years ago from teaching at St. Mark's Lutheran School; a sister, Ruth Stelljes, New Ulm, MN; a brother-in-law, Arthur Hering, Milwaukee; two grandchildren: Paul Geiger, Neenah; Rachel (Paul) Wunderlich, Neenah; four great-grandchildren: Claudia, Gavin, Ethan and Sophia Wunderlich. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter on Tuesday, August 31, 1999; and siblings: Gerhard Gieschen, Werner Gieschen, Dorothy Miller, Edna Kannenberg, Emma Ehlke, Eleanor Kannenberg, Rudolph Gieschen and Herbert Gieschen.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at 7 p.m., at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown, with Rev. Michael Jensen of St. Mark Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation Tuesday, from 5 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be Wednesday morning, at 9 a.m., at the Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown. If desired memorials may be given to St. Mark Lutheran Church or the charity of one's choice.
