Peter Kempen who was run over and killed instantly Thursday eve by a Chicago and N.W. train was buried at St. Francis. He leaves a wife and 8 children.

Peter Kempen of Dundas was run down and instantly killed by the Chicago Northwestern railway train, No. 2, late Thursday afternoon while attempting to cross the tracks with his team. One of the horses was also killed. Mr. Kempen was 49 years old and leaves to mourn his death a widow [Minnie nee Vanderloop] and eight children. His funeral was held Monday morning at 10 o'clock from St. Francis Catholic Church at Holland; Rev. Francis Peters sang the requiem high mass. Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Walter Van Asten and wife, Arnold Van de Loop and family, John Mollen and Henry Wildenberg of Little Chute, Herman Brochtrup and family of Forest Junction, Henry Van de Loop of Stanly, Geo. Manders of Greenleaf and George Kempen and wife of Wrightstown.

Th ey lived in Michicot, WI, where he was a cheesemaker as documented in t he local museum and they are both buried alongside my grandmother's parent s. He, Wilbert, came over to Michicot from Ruppert, WI, as per my uncle E ugene Kempen remembered. Wilbert and Martha had 6 children, Vernon, Lucill e, Laviola, Eugene, Joan, and Sylvester. I was recently at the family reu nion on the last Saturday of August every odd numbered year, held in Two R ivers Zander's Park, comemorating the family of Wilbert and Martha. Obituary:
A.J. Kempen, 77, Grotto Ave., Rudolph, died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday at his home. He had returned home earlier that day from St. Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point, where he was treated the past week for a heart condition.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Philip's Catholic church, Rudolph, the Rev. G. J. Muller officiating. Burial will take place in All Soul's Cemetery there.
Mr. Kempen came to the Rudolph area in 1921. He built and operated a cheese plant there for three years and then owned and operated the Rudolph Oil Co. until his retirement in 1946.
He was born at Woodville, Wis., June 13, 1891, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kempen, and married Mayme Joosten at Rudolph, Sept. 21, 1922.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are seven daughters, Mrs. Edward O'Shasky, Mrs. William Jagodzinski, Mrs. John C. Schenk, Mrs. Marvin Van Asten and Mrs. Robert Zubella, all of Rudolph; Mrs. James See, Sheboygan, and Mrs. Greg Van Asten, Krakow, Wis.; a brother, Martin, Little Chute; a sister, Mrs. Cyril Goffin, Appleton; 48 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Four brothers, a sister and two grandchildren preceded him in death.
At the time of his death Mr. Kempen was president of the Rudolph Senior Citizens Club. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and had been its financial secretary for over 30 years, and was a member of the Holy Name Society.
Friends may call at Ritchay Funeral Home after 11 a.m. Friday.
The COF and Holy Name will join in rosary at 7 p.m. Friday, and there will be a general rosary at 8 p.m.

Services held for Miss Mary Kempen
Little Chute - Funeral services for Miss Mary Kempen, 38, who died Tuesday evening at the home of her brother Martin Kempen in Little Chute, after a lingering illness, were conducted at 9 o'clock Thursday morning at St. John Church by the Rev. John J. Sprangers. Interment took place in the Catholic cemetery at Hollandtown and the Rev. Father Sprangers also had charge of the service at the grave.
The bearers were Adrian Biesterveld, John Timmers, John Vandenberg, Henry Hietpas, Charles Coppus and L. Vander Heiden. The decedent was born at Woodville, Calumet county, July 22, 1899, and had been a resident of this village for about 15 years. Surviving are six brothers, Martin, Little Chute; Wilburt, Mishicot; Anton, Cornelius and Arnold, Rudolph; Henry, Hollandtown; one sister, Mrs. Cyril [Elizabeth] Gossen, Appleton.

American glider pilots, along with airborne forces, spearheaded all the major invasions, landing behind enemy lines in their unarmed gliders in Sicily, Normandy, Southern France, Holland, Bastogne, Rhine Crossing, Luzon in the Philippines, and Burma. One veteran American glider pilot painted a vivid picture of the stark terror they experienced. "Imagine", he said, "flying a motorless, fabric-covered CG-4A glider, violently bouncing and jerking on a 11/16 inch thick nylon rope 350 feet back of the C-47 tow plane. You see the nervous glider infantrymen behind you, some vomiting, many in prayer, as you hedge-hop along at tree-top level instinctively jumping up in your seat every time you hear bullets and flak tearing through the glider. You try not to think about the explosives aboard. It's like flying a stick of dynamite through the gates of Hell." There were only about 6,000 American military glider pilots, all volunteers. They proudly wore the silver wings with the letter "G" superimposed on them. The brash, high-spirited pilots were not a bit bashful about letting everyone know that the "G" stood for "Guts".

Vincent J. Kempen, 88, of 3151 Reddin Road, Wisconsin Rapids, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Family Heritage Medical & Rehabilitation Center, Wisconsin Rapids.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids. The Rev. John Swing will officiate. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Rudolph.
Vince was born June 9, 1916, in Blenker to Cornelius and Marie (DeBruin) Kempen. He married Lucille Maziarka on Nov. 18, 1940, in Stevens Point.
Vince was employed at Nekoosa Edwards Paper Co. in the Port Edwards Division for 33 years, retiring on June 1, 1978. At one time, he was president of Papermakers Local No. 59.
Vince was a member of the Rudolph Senior Citizens, and he loved hunting, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille of Wisconsin Rapids; sons, Donald (Kathi) Kempen of Wisconsin Rapids, James (Joy) Kempen of Port Edwards, and Richard (Bonnie) Kempen of Wisconsin Rapids; daughter, Betty (Jerome) Duda of Wisconsin Rapids; brothers, Clifford (Marge) Kempen of Chicago, Ill., Leo (Arline) Kempen of Appleton; sisters, Rachel Anderson of Wisconsin Rapids, Sylvia (Archie) Marcoux of Wisconsin Rapids, Jalleta Darr of Antigo, and Florence Nash of Wisconsin Rapids; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, David Thomas; daughter, Rose Marie; infant great-grandson, Jarred; and three brothers.
Friends may call at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Kempen, Kenneth Joseph After a courageous struggle with illness, Kenneth Joseph Kempen passed away on August 18, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton, surrounded by his family. He was born July 8, 1928, son of Henry and Leona (Heiting) Kempen in the Town of Woodville, Calumet County, where he lived and farmed the Kempen homestead. Kenneth was a member of St. John-Sacred Heart Church in St. John.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Probst) Kempen whom he married April 26, 1982. In addition to his work on the farm he was over 30 years a sales representative for Vigortone Agricultural Products Co. He also enjoyed being a bartender at Van Abel's Supper Club of Hollandtown where he served for over 50 years. In his younger days Ken was an avid bowler, enjoyed fishing and throughout his life enjoyed traveling. He was an enthusiastic card player (especially sheepshead) with many friends and family. Ken was loyal and hardworking in all he undertook to do, always careful to get the job done right. At the same time he was a kind and caring man, special to everyone who knew him.
He will be sadly missed and remembered by his wife, Phyllis and children: David Kempen, Page, AZ; Connie (David) Cady, Danville, CA; Wesley (Michelle) Kempen; Stan (Renee) Kempen; and Lisa (Joseph) Kocourek; all of Brillion. Furthermore Ken will be fondly remembered by grandchildren: Ryan and Erin Cady; Zachary, Alexxes, Mitchel and Sawyer Kempen, Garrett and Evan Kocourek, Abigail Smith, Laura Kempen and great grandsons, Ian and Aiden. Ken is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Bonnie Kempen of Page, AZ, nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as members of his wife's family brothers-in-law: Ralph Probst, Sherwood; Allen Probst, Saudi Arabia; sister-in-law, Nancy Probst, Appleton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Melvin. His passing leaves a deep gap in the lives of those he knew and loved.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2007, at St. John the Baptist Church in St. John, with Father Rev. Father Phillip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery in Hollandtown. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Brillion from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22 and on Thursday at church from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night at the Funeral Home.

Robert M. Kempen passed away on Feb. 24, 2017 at Assisted Living in Page, Arizona. He was born Feb. 18, 1939 in Green Bay, WI, son of the late Henry and Leona (Heiting) Kempen. Bob was a graduate of Brillion High School, class of 1957 and served his country in the U.S. Army.
In 1962 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Probst in St. John, WI. They became parents of son David (deceased) formerly of Page, AZ, daughter Connie (David) Cady of Danville, CA - children Ryan and Erin, son Wesley (Michelle) of Brillion, WI - children Isaiah, Alana, Isabell, Alyssa, son Stan (Renee) of Brillion, WI - children Zachary, Alexxes, Mitchel, Sawyer, daughter Lisa (Joe) Kocourek of Brillion, WI - children Garrett and Evan. Later they divorced. After over a decade of farming in WI, Bob moved to Arizona where he owned and operated Bob's Boat Transportation with son David and other employees. Eileen W. Pagel, age 89, died July 1, 2014. She was born February 4, 1925, in Little Chute, the daughter of Martin and Delia (Hermsen) Kempen. She married Bob Pagel November 16, 1946, at St. John's Catholic Church in Little Chute. Eileen traveled extensively, especially as a military wife. Visits to the Catholic shrines of Lourdes, France, Medjugorie, Yugolsavia and the Holy Land were spiritually inspiring. She was very active at St. Peter's Catholic Church, fed the poor at the Luke House, led the rosary and was a lector at the weekday and Sunday Masses, was Eucharist minister at Masses and for the homebound and started St. Peter's prayer ministry. She loved music, played the piano, and sang with the MATC choir. MATC choir took the group to Rome, Italy, where they sang for Pope John Paul II and at a Mass at St. Peter's Basilica. She accompanied Bob on several military assignments and in 1951, she took three children, ages 8 months, 2 and 3 years old, by ship to be with Bob in Bordeaux, France.
Eileen composed several poems. This one was her favorite: THE SWEETNESS OF LIFE. Life can be sweet, it can be sour. It is all up to you and your attitude. You must know Jesus and what he died for. He suffered for you and he suffered for me. This opened the gates of heaven, you see. So when troubles come your way, face them until the end of the day. When night time falls and you go to bed, upon your pillow you place your head. You think of Jesus and what he once said, I'm leaving for heaven, but my spirit I will send to comfort and guide you till we meet again. So do not grow weary and throw up your hands, for Jesus is with you, up to the end.
Eileen is survived by her dedicated husband, Bob, married for 67 years; a son, Tom (Jeanne) Pagel and three daughters, Mary (Sam) Valenza, Barbara (Wayne) Acker, and Patricia (Ron) Bowden; one sister, Donna (Jim) Wildenberg.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother; son, Daniel Pagel; brother, Don Kempen, three brothers, Giles Kempen, Harvey Kempen, Marvin Kempen; and three sisters, Bernice Kempen Zenefski, LaVern Van Heuklon, and Audrey Kempen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014, at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Avenue with Msgr. Obituary:
Patrick Van Asten, 56, Pulaski, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at a Green Bay hospital, following a long illness. Pat was born Mar. 19, 1955, the son of Gregory and Janet (Kempen) Van Asten and was a 1973 graduate of Premontre High School.
Music was his passion. He was a terrific musician. He loved to write songs, play guitar and harmonica, and sing. He was a fan of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. Pat was an avid reader. He enjoyed poetry, and Shakespeare was among his favorites. He liked to make things with his hands, and was a good carpenter and craftsman. He created many beautiful things, including picture frames made with distressed wood. He had been employed at NewCap of Oconto County for many years as a home energy audit consultant.
Pat also liked to garden; he rarely needed a grocery store when his vegetable garden was ready for harvest. He appreciated the beauty of nature. He liked to spend time outdoors, and enjoyed camping and hiking. He loved to travel and had visited nearly every state in the country.
Patrick was a peaceful man; he lived his life without wronging or offending others. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh, too. He always wanted the people around him to be happy. He was a good father, brother, son and friend. He cared very deeply for the people in his life and treated them well. He kept his loved ones in his daily prayers. He also enjoyed making bets with his dad, on whether the Packers would win.
He will be deeply missed by his parents, Gregory and Janet Van Asten, Krakow; his son and daughter-in-law, Kory and Jeanie Van Asten, Green Bay; four brothers and one sister, Timm (Jane) Van Asten, Pulaski, Tony (Faye) Van Asten, Suamico, Tina (Al) Wagner, Suamico, Brian (Diane) Van Asten, Pulaski, and Greg (Julie) Van Asten, Krakow; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pat's family would like to recognize and thank Pat's sister, Tina, for all her help and the many things she did in taking care of him. A special thank you is also extended to St. Vincent Hospital ICU Staff, Dr. Suarez and Dr. Alshahrouri, Pat Giesler, N.P. and Emily Glime N.P.

Obituary:
David A. Kempen, age 53, of Page, Arizona, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017. Dave was born on August 25, 1963 in Chilton, son of Phyllis (Probst) Kempen and Robert "Bob" Kempen. He was a graduate of Brillion High School, class of 1982. After graduating high school he drove to Arizona to work with Bob at Bob's Boat Repair & Transport, earning his scuba certification and assisting with boat recovery and boat transportation. He then worked for many years as a truck driver in the greater Arizona area. Dave enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, scuba diving, and collecting and working on old trucks and tractors. When visiting Wisconsin he liked to attend tractor and steam engine shows with his brothers. Dave loved his nieces and nephews and was often found giving them rides on the four wheeler, golf cart or tractor. Dave lived life with a sense of humor and he loved to tell stories. Honoring his generous wish, the gift of life was shared with many people in need through organ and tissue donation.
Dave is survived by his mother, Phyllis; his siblings: sister, Connie (Dave) Cady of Danville, CA and children: Ryan and Erin, brother, Wes (Michelle) Kempen and children: Isaiah, Alana, Isabell, Alyssa, and adopted children: Laura and Abigail, brother, Stan (Renee) Kempen and children: Zachary, Alexxes, Mitchel, and Sawyer, and sister, Lisa (Joseph) Kocourek and children Garrett and Evan; uncles, Ralph and Allen Probst and aunt, Nancy Probst; significant other, Teri Dean; close family friends, Jesse and Robert Smith; other cousins, relatives, and friends.
Dave was preceded in death by grandparents: Clemens and Crescentia Probst and Henry and Leona Kempen; his step-father: Kenneth Kempen; uncles, Vernon, Arlyn, and Leon Probst, Melvin Kempen, and an aunt, Karen Probst. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Brillion Community Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Sam Timm, with burial to follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Hollandtown.

Mark was employed by Wilco Cabinet Company of Green Bay. He enjoyed ska teboarding, snowboarding, camping and bicycling. Mark also played guit ar in a band.He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Jane and Harvey Kimmes, Suami co, Wis.; his father and stepmother, Dan and Lynn Zipperer, Mishicot, Wis .; and by his best friend and brother, Keith Zipperer, and his wife Lis a, Green Bay; stepniece Cecelia, stepnephew, Joseph, and stepgreat-grand n iece Jordyn. He is further survived by his aunts and uncles, Cathie and Mi ke Erceogovac, Winneconne; Margie Krizizke, Schaumburg, Ill.; Betty and Ru ss Fuller, Waukesha; John (His Godfather) and MaryJo Haese, Manitowoc; J im and Cindy Haese, Mishicot; Laurie and Brad Thatcher, Rochester, Minn .; Chris and Becky Haese, Neenah; Virginia Zipperer, Francis Creek; Ani ta Zipperer and Patrick Ohearn, Green Bay; Suzanne Zipperer, Milwaukee; Ju lie Zipperer (His Godmother) and Joe Meyer, Francis Creek. State St. in Mishicot. Visitation will cont inue after 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, until leaving for t he funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Mass of Christi an Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at Holy Cro ss Catholic Church in Mishicot, with the Reverend Paul Paider officiatin g, with burial to follow in the parish cemetery.

Obituary:
Kyle Van Asten, 26, Pulaski, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 21, 2012. The son of Timothy and Jane (Greenwood) Van Asten was born May 25, 1986, and was a 2004 graduate of Pulaski High School. He attended UWGB and NWTC, graduating with HVAC certification in 2009.
Early on, he worked for many years as a lifeguard and WSI swim instructor at the Pulaski Pool. Later, he worked at Van Asten Contracting (the family business) and other HVAC companies. Most recently, Kyle worked for a landscaping firm. He loved the outdoors, especially his backyard and the family cottage. Kyle grew up learning to fish and hunt with his father, grandpa, uncles and cousins. He was sensitive, smart, and loving.
Kyle is survived by his parents, Timothy and Jane (Greenwood) Van Asten, Pulaski; great aunt, Jean Greenwood, Sun Prairie; Aunt Peggy (Eric) Wasson, Georgia; Aunt Mary Greenwood, Green Bay; Grandpa Greg and Grandma Janet Van Asten, Krakow; Aunt Tina (Al) Wagner, Suamico; Uncles Tony (Faye) Van Asten, Suamico; Brian (Diane) Van Asten, Pulaski; Greg (Julie) Van Asten, Krakow; his "odder mother" Cheryl Cartier, Suamico; and his forever mud brother, Samuel Feller, Suamico. He is further survived by his cousins, Kory (Jeanie), Nick (Katie), Forrest (Carolyn), Elizabeth, Kimberly, Chelsea, Simon, Megan and Benjamin Van Asten, Paul (Beth), Matt (Jill), Steve, Nancy, and Christy Greenwood, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, uncle Patrick Van Asten and uncles, John, Wayne, and Bill Greenwood.
Friends may call at Suamico United Methodist Church, 3266 Lakeview Dr. Suamico, at 11:00 am Saturday. The Funeral Service will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Saturday at the church, Rev. Deanna Merritt officiating.
