    Obituary:
Helen L. Hein 1202 N. Superior Street Appleton
Age 73, died Tuesday, August 29, 2000, at Appleton Medical Center following complications after surgery. Helen was born on September 21, 1926, in Britton, South Dakota, to the late William and Ida (Woehler) Presteen. Her parents moved to Appleton when she was about ten years of age. She married Lester Hein on July 10, 1948, in Appleton; they enjoyed 44 years of marital happiness. Helen was employed at Zwicker Knitting Mills for many years, until the birth of their child, Sheila. Lester preceded Helen in death on December 26, 1992. Helen dedicated her life to family and home and traveled extensively with her family. She was a great cook who enjoyed experimenting with new recipes.
Prior to Sheila's birth, Helen and Lester enjoyed many nights of dancing. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors in her flower garden. Approximately 20 months ago, Helen suffered a stroke that caused her to spend time at Franciscan Care Center for recovery. While at Franciscan she touched many lives and always maintained the goal to return to her own home. Helen was a beloved wife and mother.
Survivors include her daughter, Sheila Hein, Appleton, and her special friend Ken Wyngaard, Kimberly; her sisters, Eva (Lloyd) Ellefson, Appleton, Juanita (Ernest) Hein, Neenah; Lorraine (Alvin) LeMoine, Appleton; Irene Presteen, Appleton; and Lillian Schultz, Appleton; her sister-in-law, Evelyn (Ralph) Lex, Appleton; her godchild, Debra Willenkamp, Black Creek; her step children, Carol Surprise, Fremont; Gloria (Bob) Minehan, Hawaii; Bill (Marj) Springer, California. She was preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn (Frank) Krueger; her brothers, Melvin (Lila) Presteen, and Lawrence (Leona) Presteen, Sheila's former fiance, Glen Carter; her sisters-in-law, Ruth (Robert) Kimball, Edna (Joe) Mayefski; her brother-in-law, Wilmer Schultz; her niece, Sharon Lex; and her nephew, Roger Kimball. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2000, at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 North Morrison St., Appleton, with the Reverend Ralph C. Waack officiating. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-9 p.m. and directly at the church on Friday at 10 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. A memorial has been established in Helen's name. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Franciscan Care Center and the Doctors and nurses on the second floor at AMC, especially the Intensive Care Unit for the loving care they gave Helen. The family would also like to express their appreciation to Dr. Judy Ellefson and Ruth E. Lemke for their kindness and special help. God saw she was getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so He put His arms around her, and whispered, "Come with Me." With tearful eyes we watched her suffer, and saw her fade away, and though we love her dearly, we could not make her stay.
