    Robert Eugene Allen died peacefully at home with his family at his side, Thursday, March 8, 2012.
    He was born May 20, 1933, in Everly, Iowa, attending school there as a boy. He married Aletha (Lea) Vogelaar in Canton, S.D., on May 6, 1953. In 1957, they relocated to the Range, finally settling in Makinen.
    Bob worked for Erie Mining. He then started the first bulk milk route in the area. He worked as a road construction mechanic until joining Millwright Local 1348 in 1974, during which time he spent many a winter traveling the country and working with his sons until his retirement in 1994. In addition, he was a land developer, road builder and farmer. He was well known for his pig roasts, Cadillac collection, gardening, putting up wood, and great debating skills He worked hard and taught his children to do the same. Some of his favorite leisure time activities include ice fishing and cards. His grandchildren have many cherished memories of times with Grandpa Bob.
    Bob is survived by his wife, Lea; children, Russell (Sheila) Allen, Lori (Jim Bailey) Humpreys, Randy Allen, Warren Allen, Scott Allen and Bradley Allen, Rodney (Shamarie) Allen, Curtis Allen and Rudean (Bob) Keith; siblings, Sharon (Florance) Worden and Wayne (Mary Ellen) Allen, and Betty Jones; 26 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry; infant sons, Galen and Joseph; parents, Milo and Anna; and siblings, Matt, Milo, Eunice, Clara, Cora, George and Dale.
    Interment will be in the Makinen Cemetery.

    Jerry Wayne Allen, 48, of Makinen passed away peacefully in his wifes arms on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at St. Lukes Hospital in Duluth after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
    He was born Nov. 28, 1956, in Sibley, Iowa, to Robert and Aletha Lea (Vogelaar) Allen. He was raised in Makinen and attended school both in Makinen and Cotton.
    In 1975 Jerry joined the Air Force intending to see the world and ended up getting to know and love the Black Hills area while stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, S.D.
    He married Rudean Burnell in Las Vegas, Nev., on July 4, 1982. Their journeys led them to Oklahoma, Utah, California and finally back home to Makinen in 1991. His lifes work ranged from real estate agent specializing in investment property in California to construction millwright work through Local 1348 in Virginia.
    He will always be remembered for his love and commitment to family, life, sense of responsibility, humor and last but not least, his lifelong passion for fishing. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and special friend to many.
    Surviving are his wife, Rudean; son, Derrick Allen; two daughters, Jessie (Bryon) Amiot and Sandi Allen; two special grandsons, Isaiah Allen and Dylan Amiot; parents, Robert and Aletha Lea Allen; brothers, Russell (Sheila) Allen, Randy (Brenda) Allen, Bradley, Scott, Warren and Curtis Allen, and Rodney (Shamarie) Allen; a sister, Lori Humphreys; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Peter and Pearl Vogelaar; paternal grandparents, Milo and Anna Allen; and two infant brothers, Galen and Joseph.
    Burial was in Makinen Cemetery.
