Obituary:
Robert J. Golden, age 92, died Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at St. Paul Elder Services in Kaukauna. Bob was born in Appleton on December 19, 1918 to the late Thomas and Myrtle (O'Conner) Golden. He proudly served his country during WWII as a member of the 8th Airborne Brigade, 96th Bomb Group, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
On November 18, 1950, Bob was united in marriage to Shirley Golden at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. The couple enjoyed 59 years together until Shirley's death in June of 2009. He worked as a paper machine operator at Kimberly Clark for 43 years, and also worked as a realtor for Rollie Winter Real Estate for 22 years. Bob was a member of the American Legion Post #38, Knights of Columbus, and was a Charter Member at St. Pius X Catholic Church where he belonged to the Men's Society.
He is survived by his daughter, Peggy E.(David) Oberhofer, River Hills, WI; 3 granddaughters: Megan (Amish) Patel, Molly McCloud and Shelley Oberhofer; grandson Matthew Oberhofer; great grandson Clayton Patel; 2 brothers: Gerald (Bonnie) Golden, Kaukauna, and James (Joyce) Golden, Little Chute; and a sister in law Esther Tousey, Appleton. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Shirley; son Patrick; 2 sisters: Margaret Kunert and Patricia Coates; and 2 brothers: Leland and William Golden.
A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 17, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St., Appleton, with Father Thomas Farrell officiating, followed by full military honors performed by Appleton Legion Post #38. Friends may visit directly at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Inurnment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the St. Pius Building Fund.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at St. Paul Home for the compassionate care shown to Bob.
