    Obituary:
Eugene Joseph Spielbauer, age 86 of Darboy, left this world for his eternal reward in Heaven Monday, October 16, 2017.
Gene was born in Appleton on April 2, 1931 to the late Jerome and Bonnie Spielbauer. On August 4, 1951 he married Joan Lynn Purdy at St. Patrick Church in Menasha. Gene truly kept his promises as he promised to love until death do us part, and he kept that promise for 66 years.
Gene worked at Neenah Paper Company starting as temporary summer employment which lasted for 40 years. Gene worked hard and long to make life a better place for his family. He loved fishing, especially with our son, Robert. They went to Canada every year to get that big one. He also was a hunter and the group he hunted with: son Robert, brother-in-law, David, cousin Jim and friends, were such a happy group that even the planning was joyful.
In Gene's youth, he was an avid bowler and had trophies for the countless pins he knocked down. He liked our yearly cousins' reunion at different casinos where we would spend happy days together, playing silly games when we tired of gambling and just sharing time with each other.
When Gene could no longer fish, hunt, bowl, take vacations, or travel, he, with the help of Alyssa, Lydia, and Dylan, collected coins. His eye sight was not good, so the children were his eyes and all coins were put in their appropriate place.
Our family was the most important thing to Gene. When our great-grandchildren were here, you could see the sparkle in his eyes and the joy they gave him. I, Joan, will miss him, for he was my soulmate for a lifetime.
Our children: Robert (Kathy) Spielbauer, Julie Spielbauer, and Lori (Glen) Springstroh, will miss their dad. Our five grandchildren: Sarah, Andrea, Jill, Jennifer, and Matt, will miss "Gramps." But most of all, our 14 great-grandchildren will miss him because they knew from little on that their great-grandpa loved them to the moon and back.
Gene is further survived by his brother, John Spielbauer; brothers-in-law: Robert Bruce and David Purdy; sister-in-law, Marcia Purdy; and many nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his two sisters: Francis and Marilynn; his in-laws; and many cousins.
A memorial service for Gene will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Menasha's Westgor Funeral Home, Deacon Mike Madden officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service. Inurnment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Menasha.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Gene's name.

We would like to thank Dr. Cherian, who got the diagnosis and gave us loving support, Affinity Hospice for invaluable support and care; they went above and beyond for all of us. Thank you to Fay, Barbie, Tessa and all. We never could have managed without you. To new friend Dr. Jack, who gave so much of himself to help in every way he could; and to our granddaughter, Jennifer who put everything together for "Gramps'" final tribute. Thank you one and all.
