Rose L. Spooner, 91, native of Roy
Rose Lena Van Domelen Spooner, 91, Hillsboro, died Nov 24, 1994, at Tuality Community Hospital. The Holy Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial were held Monday afternoon at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Roy, with Rev. Stephen N. Breitenstein as celebrant. Interment followed in St. Francis Cemetery and a reception was held in the basement of St. Francis School in Roy after the rites. Mrs. Spooner was born Jan 6, 1903, in Roy, a daughter of Arnold and Mary Spiering Van Domelen. she was raised and educated in Roy. On Nov 16, 1926, she married Floyd A. Spooner in Roy. They lived in Forest Grove, Aloha, Portland, Sheridan, and McMinnville before moving to Carlton in 1935. Her husband died Jan 30, 1979 in McMinnville after more than 52 years of marriage. She continued to live in Carlton until moving to Beaverton in 1986 and had lived in Hillsboro since 1993. Mrs. Spooner was a homemaker. She was a life-long member of the Catholic Church and had served as the staff organist at St. Francis of Assissi Parish in Roy before her marriage. She enjoyed growing violets, sewing, and music. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Barbara Spooner, Richland, Wash., and Raymond and Kathy Spooner, Aloha; a daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and Bernard Mayer, Hillsboro; a daughter-in-law, Lavilla Spooner, Portland; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Spooner, Oct 20, 1993. The family suggests memorial contributions to Catholic Listening Station, KBVM, 88.3 FM, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd., No. 44, Portland, 97228. Fuiten-Rose Morturary Chapel of Forest Grove was in charge of arrangements.
