    Grosek, Henry A. "Mr. Sears" 635 Ridgeview Circle Appleton
    Age 78, passed away unexpectedly on his 78th birthday, September 2, 2001, doing what he liked best, working in his garden. Henry was born September 2, 1923, in the Township of Belmont, Portage County, son of the late Ted and Helen (Breske) Grosek. Henry graduated from Waupaca High School in 1942 and attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He then joined Sears Roebuck and Company in Madison. Henry served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II where he participated in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. Following his return from service, Henry went back to Sears in traveling merchandising and updating stores. He helped open the Appleton College Avenue Sears on November 1, 1949, where he worked until his retirement in 1982.
    Henry was united in marriage to Jean Verstegen on September 16, 1950. They would have celebrated 51 wonderful years together this month. Henry was an active and dedicated member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He was a tireless volunteer in many spiritual and community activities including: bringing communion to the sick, St. Elizabeth Hospital Gift Shop, directing worship services at both Rennes and Outagamie Health Centers, Thompson Community Center, a longtime 4H promoter, and many others. He was honored with several awards including the Wisconsin Spiritual Volunteer of the Year Award for 2000 and the district Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups Volunteer of the Year Award in 1995. In recent years Henry devoted much of his time to driving for Larry's Funeral Coach and assisting area funeral homes, where his caring manner will be dearly missed. Henry will best be remembered for his positive outlook on life, his wonderful smile and his strong work ethic.
    He will be deeply missed by his wife, Jean; daughter, Faye (Steve) Grosek-Woods, Neenah; sons, Don (Beth) Grosek, Neenah; Dick (Terry) Grosek, Appleton; grandchildren, Angela and Alissa Woods, Eric and Tina Grosek, Adam and James Grosek; sister, Marie (Harold) Becker, Waupaca; brother, George Grosek, Chicago.
    A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Friday, September 7, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette Street, with Fr. Don Zuleger officiating. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel from 3-8 p.m. Thursday and then directly at the church from 10:30 a.m. Friday until the time of service. The Parish prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
