    Delmar A. "Del" Nieland, Appleton, age 83, passed peacefully away to his Heavenly Father surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at Appleton Medical Center. Del was born in Appleton on June 15, 1926, to the late Walter and Amanda (Tews) Nieland. He proudly served his country as a gunner in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He also served in the Army Reserve. On January 27, 1951, Del was united in marriage to Adeline E. Schmitz. The couple has enjoyed 58 years together. Del worked as a steamfitter for AZCO for 20 years, and then for August Winters for 10 years retiring in 1988. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, Sheepshead, woodworking, and sharing laughter and good times with family and friends. He was a member of Appleton VFW Post #2778, a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local #400, and was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
    Del is survived by his wife Adeline Nieland, Appleton; four daughters: Barbara (Mark) Spaude, Appleton; Susan (Richard) Springer, Cincinnati; Bonnie (Michael) Hintz, Appleton; Sharon Miller, Appleton; two sons: Lawrence Nieland, Appleton; Russell (Sheryl) Nieland, Little Chute; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren, two sisters: Delores Maas, Appleton; Beverly Harke, Kimberly; two brothers: Marvin (Jan) Nieland, Medina and James (Barb) Nieland, Appleton. He is further survived by many other relatives, friends, and neighbors.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Judy, two brothers in law: Elwood Harke and Eugene Maas, and a sister in law Carol Nieland.
    A Funeral Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, August 7, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 323 N. Morrison St., Appleton, with the Rev. Ralph Waack officiating. Friends may visit at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Thursday (TONIGHT) from 4 - 7 p.m. and directly at the church on Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Interment with full military honors will take place at Highland Memorial Park at 10 a.m. Monday, August 10. A memorial fund is being established in Delmar's name for St. Paul Lutheran Church and the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

    Marvin J. Nieland, "Marvie", 78, Medina, passed away Nov. 20, 2010, peacefully at his home.
    He was born on April 29, 1932, in Appleton, Wis., son of the late Walter and Amanda Nieland. He married his first wife, Carol Jean Maas, in 1952. Carol preceded him in death in 1984. On July 20, 1991, he married Jan Dengel in Greenville, Wis.
    Marv worked for Ray's Tire in Appleton for 30 years, and at his son's bar, Your Place in Dale, where he enjoyed meeting new friends, sharing some laughs, and his favorite drink, Rye Whiskey & Diet Pepsi. After leaving Ray's, he worked as a finish carpenter for Paul Peters Construction for several years until his retirement. Over the years he enjoyed spending time at the "cottage" with family and friends, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors. He loved planting his garden every year and tending to his yard.
    Marv also belonged to the Greenville Lions for many years. In 1984 he took a trip to Greenville, Miss., with two other members, in which he was an instrumental part in founding the Greenville Catfish races in Greenville, Wis. His lucky fish "Fingers" won the first two official catfish races. Marv enjoyed his time with the Lions and meeting so many people over the years.
    His real passion was his woodworking. He could take a piece of wood and turn it into something beautiful. He enjoyed making keepsakes for his family and friends. His spunky attitude and gruff sense of humor will always be remembered.
    Marv is survived by his wife, Jan Nieland; children, Donny (Barb) Nieland, Scott Nieland, Lori Kuhnke, Kris (Chris) Treml, Kim(Brian) Mahlendorf, and Michael Dengel; grandchildren, Lizie (Dave) Ewald, Tim (Chelsea) Kuhnke, Adam Kuhnke, Steven and Austin Kuhnke, David and Kyle Nieland, Alex and Brandon Huss, Taylor Euhardy, Baylie Treml, Sydney (Schwartz) Bergner-Dengel; great-grandchildren, Bryce and Hayden Ewald, and Jayden Kuhnke; two sisters, Deloris Maas and Beverly Harke; two sisters-in-laws, Arleen Meyers and Adeline Nieland; adopted family, Bill and Kris Hauser, Gracyn Hicks and family; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
    Marv is also preceded in death by his son, Mike Nieland; his brother, Delmar Nieland; and two brothers-in-laws, Elwood Harke and Eugene Maas.
    A memorial service for Marv will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, At Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Nathan Reichle officiating. Family and friends may call directly at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
    The family would like to send a special "Thank you" to the nurses and staff of Hospice for the loving care and support through Marv's final days.
    Dad, you have been here with me for over 11 years and you have been my "best friend". I will miss you always, Stella.

    James Nieland, 79, of Appleton passed away January 3, 2013 at home. Born April 23, 1933 in Appleton, the son of the late Albert and Amanda (Tews) Nieland. Jim graduated from Appleton High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. On May 19, 1956 he married Barbara J. Shea at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ripon. He worked in appliance repair, eventually owning his own business. He enjoyed working on various projects, fishing, volunteering for St. Paul's Lutheran Church, but especially spending time with his family.
    He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara; four daughters and spouses, Kathy and Brian Kaphaem of Dublin, PA, Nancy and Jeff Davis of Appleton, Connie and Joe Smith of Neenah and Pattie and Doug Stanislawski of Neenah; grandchildren Joshua Kaphaem, Callie (Joel) Hime, Ethan Smith, Kacey Stanislawski and Rebecca Stanislawski; great-grandchildren Jabin Hime, Jackson Hime and Madelyn Hime; and sisters Deloris Maas and Beverly Harke and sister-in-law Jan Nieland.
    He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Delmar Nieland and Marvin Nieland; brothers-in-law Elwood Harke and Eugene Maas; sisters-in-law Adeline Nieland and Carol Nieland; and father- and mother-in-law, J.F. and Ethel Shea.
    Friends may call at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 302 N. Morrison Street, Appleton, Monday January 7, 2013 from 9-11 am. Funeral Service to follow at the church at 11:00 am with Rev. Paul Jenkins officiating. Burial at Highland Memorial Park.
    The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of ThedaCare Hospice, especially Erin, Dawn and Julie.
