    Obituary:
Lou Peters passed away peacefully on August 28, 2015. He was born on September 3, 1923 in Rushville, Nebraska, to Stephen and Elizabeth Peters. Lou was Valedictorian at Rushville High School in 1941 and became the first member of his family to attend college. However, WWII broke out just a few months later. Lou enlisted in the Army and served our country until the end of the war. After being discharged, Lou went back to Chadron State College where he excelled at both academics and athletics. At Chadron, Lou played football and was the starting guard on both offense and defense, earning the nickname "Watch Charm Guard". He also ran track breaking several conference records in the 440, 880, mile, and mile relay. In today's world it is hard to imagine a guard on the football team winning middle distance races in record times. After graduating college, Lou taught high school in Nebraska for five years before moving to Coalinga California in 1953 to continue teaching. Little did he know he would soon meet the love of his life, Marion. They were married a year later and started a family. Lou continued his education over the span of eight summers and one school year to earn three Master's Degrees in Education, Math & Science, and Junior College Counseling. In 1969 he moved his family to Stockton to become a counselor at San Joaquin Delta until he retired in 1993. The move to Stockton also allowed him to live in the same city as his cherished older brother Lee Peters. In retirement Lou lived a happy and active life making sure he got to travel with Marion and spend plenty of time with his family and friends. Lou is preceded in death by his brother Lee. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marion, their son Mark and wife Michele and children Christine and Eric, their daughter Maggie Lujan and husband Steve and children Matthew and Callan, their son Matt and wife Cilla and children Andrew, Christopher and Samantha, and their son Martin and wife Heather and children Lucas, Riley and Hannah. Lou is also survived by his sister, Rose Marie, of Alliance, NB. A service for Lou will be held at Presentation Catholic Church on Friday, September 11, at 10:00 am. A Rosary with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, September 10, at 5:00pm at DeYoung Shoreline Chapel. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Assistance League of Stockton or to the San Joaquin Delta Scholarship fund. Please sign guestbook at www.deyoungchapels.com
