    Obituary:
    Charles M. Weber 2600 Heritage Wo ods Drive Appleton Age 85, died Friday, July 21, 2000, at Peabody Manor, Appleton. Charl ie was born on May 14, 1915, in Kaukauna to the late Mathias and Anna (Ro menesko) Weber. He married Dorothy Hoffman on May 31, 1941, in Mackvill e; she survives. Charlie graduated from Holy Cross Grade School in Kauk auna and the high school department of St. Francis Seminary in St. Franci s, Wisconsin. During the 1930s he worked with the Civilian Conservati on Corps in northern Wisconsin, a program which employed young men in t he forests, and sent part of their pay to their parents. Charlie was worki ng at the foundry in Kaukauna when he enlisted in the U.S. Army; he spe nt three years with the U.S. Army Ground Forces 18th Chemical Maintenan ce Company in WWII in Europe. He was entitled to the ETO Service Med al with battle stars for Northern France and Rhineland, Good Conduct Meda l, Distinguished Service Unit Citation, Victory Medal and three overse as service bars. Charlie was a member of the Catholic Knights, Cathol ic Order of the Foresters, lifetime member of Veterans Of Foreign Wars, and held a Gold Card (50+ years) in the national Plumbe rs Union. He worked as a plumber for various firms in the Fox River Val ley, with the last 8 working years as a Plumbing Inspector. In additi on to working at the trade, he also taught apprentice plumbers through F ox Valley Technical College in Appleton. He held a Masters License a nd a Designers License, and did some free-lance plumbing designing aft er retirement. While his children were growing up, he did religious ins truction at St. Margaret Mary, Neenah. Charlie was also an adult memb er of the Girl Scouts, installing and maintaining plumbing at Chalk Hil ls Camp near Wausaukee. He completed part of his training toward becomi ng a Deacon of the Catholic Church. Charlie assisted his parishes with pas toral duties, such as visiting the sick and distributing Holy Communion at Ma ss and to home bound parishioners. After his retirement, he lived at Ce cil, Wisconsin, for 8 years, where he was active at St. Martin Church a nd did political activities with the Wisconsin Coalition for the Aging. Ch arlie worked with a creative writing group, publishing a number of stor ies and he self-published his war memoirs titled, "Spam Again." He also had a few supporting roles in plays at t he Mielke Theater in Shawano. Survivors include his wife of 59 years; h is daughters, Rita T. (Michael) Shores, Green Bay; Nancy W. (Robert) Ma rgraf, Green Bay; and Barbara J. Weber, West Milwaukee; his sons, Phill ip M. (Patricia) Weber, Sherwood; and Carl J. (Barbara A.) Weber, Gre en Bay; his grandchildren, Sarah (Todd) Minten, Mathias Weber (fiancee Jennifer West); Joel Weber, Julie Webe r, Jennifer (Scott) Vandeleest, Rebecca Margraf; and his two great-gran dchildren, Skye Anna Vandeleest and Joseph Minten; and his sister, Vero na Van Schijndel, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands, Appleton. Charlie is furth er survived by his brothers-in-law and his sisters-in-law, Mildred Weber a nd Florence Weber, both of Kaukauna; Urban (Dorothy) Hoffman, Town of M enasha; Rita B. Hoffman, Appleton; Kenneth (Rita) Hoffman, Appleton, and E lmer (Florence) Hoffman, Kimberly. He was preceded in death by his brot hers, Nicholas, Louis, Edward, Michael and Herbert Weber; and his sister s, Mary Ann Specht, Katherine West and Theresa Kons. The Funeral Litur gy will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2000, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOL IC CHURCH, 410 West Lawrence Street, Appleton, with Fr. John Holly offi ciating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends m ay call directly at the church on Monday from 3 p.m. until the ti me of services. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Char les' name. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Hallett and the staff and P eabody Manor, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton Medical Center, and Vall ey VNA Hospice.
