    Van Laanen, WilliamWilliam Thomas Van Laanen, 75, Egg Harbor, died at home Tuesday, Novemb er 8, 2005, after living with cancer for several years. Bill was born Dece mber 31, 1929, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to Frank and Mabel (Eland) Van Laa nen. He was reared in Green Bay's west side, on Shawano Ave. He graduat ed from Green Bay West High School, received his bachelor of science degr ee from St. Norbert College, and his master's degree from San Francisco St ate University in California. He was superintendent at the Freedom and Lo di school districts, and at Gibraltar Schools from 1976-1994. He was happi ly married for 55 years to Lynne Claire Francken; their anniversary was Oc tober 28, 1950. He and Lynne owned and operated By The Bay Motel in Fish C reek for 25 years.Bill was a great humanitarian. Throughout his life, he contributed many ac ts of kindness and charity on the personal, local and global level.He is survived by his wife Lynne; three daughters: Tina, Lisa, and Lori (P aul Crittendon), all of Door County; two sons: Mark, Egg Harbor; and Chri s, Pompano Beach, FL; six grandchildren: Chanta and Allen Van Laanen; Aj a, Cole and Cali Nelson; and Chelsea Van Laanen; two sisters: Mary (Floy d) Bellisle, Green Bay; Nancy (Chuck) Rogers, Ludlow, MA; nieces and nephe ws, and many close friends.He was preceded in death by his daughter Beth; his parents; brothers, Geor ge and Michael; sisters: Vivian, Marian, June and Patsy; plus a sister a nd brother who died as toddlers, Carol and Leo; mother-in-law, Catherine F rancken; sister-in-law, Patricia Francken Wouters; and brother-in-law, Do ug Francken.Memorial Mass will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Fish Creek, W I, on Saturday, November 12, 2005, at 11 a.m. Friends may call from 10 a. m. until time of service. Bill will be cremated and be interred in Blossem burg Cemetery in Peninsula State Park. Funeral arrangements are being ma de by Casperson Funeral Home in Sister Bay.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Societ y.Online Condolences are available at: www.caspersonfuneralhome.co
