    Charles E. Sample, "Chuck", Appleton
    Age 81, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Theda Clark Medical Center. Charl es was born on January 5, 1920, in Green Bay to the late Charles H. and Je anette (Meidam) Sample. He married Dorothy A. Lindauer on June 27, 194 1, in Waupaca; she survives. Chuck played fullback for the Green Bay Packe rs in 1942 and 1945. He served his country in the United States Army duri ng World War II in France and Germany and was a longtime employee of the c ity of Appleton. He enjoyed handball, bicycling and was an avid fisher a nd hunter. Survivors include Dorothy, his wife of 59 years; his daughte r, Jeanette (Joseph) Benson, South Lyon, Michigan; his daughter, Marilyn ( Daniel) Romenesko, Willmington, Delaware; his son, Chuck (Ann) Sample, Gre en Bay; his son, Tom (Jan) Sample, Wrightstown; and his son, Bob (Lisa) Sa mple, Mountain, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Chas Sample, Katie Sample a nd Ryan Sample; and his cousin, Mildred Hollenback, Appleton.     Professional Football Player. After graduating from West High School in Appleton, Wisconsin, he went to the University of Toledo. He played two years with the Green Bay Packers in 1942 and 1945. Charles E. Sample was a 205-pound fullback and linebacker for the Packers. In his two years with the Packers he rushed 59 times for a total gain of 257 yards, scoring 5 touchdowns. His football career was broken up by his Army service in France and Germany during World War II. He was a long-time employee of the City of Appleton.

    Jack E. J. Barrett, age 78, of Waupaca, WI passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Appleton Medical Center surrounded by his family. Jack was born in Appleton on May 7, 1935 the son of the late Emery Julius and Vera (Meidam) Barrett. On June 20, 1974 Jack married Jackie Mueller in Dubuque, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife: Jackie Barrett, Waupaca; his children: Blake (Brenda) Barrett, Waupaca; Lori (AJ) Tranter, Dale; Sheli (Rick) Paez, Appleton and Michael (Tammi) Barrett, Greenfield. Also surviving are his 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and his brother: James (Diane) Barrett, Appleton and a niece, nephew, great nieces and a nephew.
    A Celebration of Jack's Life will be on Sunday, November 17 at 3 PM at Hidden Waters in Waupaca.

    Driessen, Marlene V., (Marle ne Meidam), 112 Idlewild Street, KaukaunaAge 66, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, July 31, 2003. S he was born September 8, 1936 in Appleton, daughter of the late Adrian Mei dam and Leora Meidam of Kaukauna. She was a graduate of St. John’s High Sc hool in 1954 and also graduated from the Outagamie County Teachers’ Colleg e. On May 8, 1957, she married Lee Driessen at St. John’s Catholic Chur ch in Little Chute. Marlene taught school at Sacred Heart School in Sherwo od as well as at Holy Angels School in Darboy. Lee and Marlene also operat ed the Lunchtime Cafe in downtown Appleton for several years. In 1977, t he couple traveled to Nicaragua to bring home their adopted son, Francisc o. He was the light of her life and brought her great joy. Marlene spe nt a great deal of time working on her family history, and made books f or all of her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.Survivors include her husband: Lee Driessen of Kaukauna; a son: Francis co “Chico” Driessen of Milwaukee; her mother: Leora Meidam of Kaukauna; h er brothers and sisters: Ron (Helen) Meidam, Jean (Paul) Lamers, and Nan cy Lappen, all of Little Chute; Rod Meidam of Green Bay, and Joyce (Ray) G erow of Kaukauna; four sisters-in-law: Carol Skinkis of Milwaukee, Ruth Lo cy of Little Chute, Isabelle (Julius) Pritzel of Appleton, and Theresa Dri essen of Kimberly; a brother-in-law: Jim Driessen of Little Chute, as we ll as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her fath er Adrian Meidam, by Lee’s parents George and Rose Driessen, brothers-in-l aw Chester Skinkis, Dan Lappen, Gene Driessen, Dick Driessen, Dave Locy, a nd by a sister-in-law, Mona Driessen.Funeral services for Marlene will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 4, 20 03 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Tim Albrecht officiating. Interme nt will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Appleton. Friends may call at t he funeral home on Monday from 9 AM until the hour of the services.Marlene was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, daughter, and sister. S he was always there when you needed anything, always offered a should er to cry on or an ear to bend, or a tasty dish to pass at a family even t.     Thomas "Tom" Edward Sample, age 59, of Potter, formerly of Wrightstown and Appleton, died Friday, October 30, 2015 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
    Tom was born on November 9, 1955 in Appleton, son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Lindauer) Sample. He was a graduate of Appleton West High School, class of 1974. Tom served our country in the United States Marine Corp Ship to Shore mission in Vietnam from 1974 until his honorable discharge in 1976. He married Janet Holup on October 6, 1990 in Aniwa, Wisconsin. The couple just celebrated 25 years together. Tom continued his education at Fox Valley Tech in their Automotive Department. He owned and operated Sample Vending since 1996. Tom enjoyed rebuilding vintage Mercury boat motors, cars, and boats. He especially loved his family.
    Tom is survived by his wife of 25 years, Janet of Potter; their son: Ryan of Potter; siblings: Jeanette (Joe) Benson of South Lyon, MI, Marilyn (Dan) Romenesko of Wilmington, DE, Chuck (Ann) Sample of Suamico, and Bob (Lisa) Sample of Cecil, WI; father-in-law: Jim Holup of Antigo; two brothers-in-law: Glen Holup of San Antonio, TX and Steve Aerts of Two Rivers; nieces and nephews: Chas (Renee) Sample of Green Bay, Katie (Scott) Houle of Green Bay, and Nick Aerts of Two Rivers; great nieces, other relatives, their cats Comet and Rascal, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law: Beverly Holup, his sister-in-law: Nancy Aerts, and cats: Mittens, Tiger, and Calico.
    Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Wieting Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street in Brillion. Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 126 of Brillion.
    Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
    Memorial appreciated to the American Cancer Society .
