    Bies, Raymond M., KaukaunaAge 92, died Sunday, September 21, 2003 at St. Paul Home, Kaukauna. Ray w as born November 29, 1910 in Kaukauna; son of the late Rainier and Mary (L oderbauer) Bies. On July 9, 1940, he married the former Agnes Schmidt at S t. Francis Catholic Church, Hollandtown. The couple enjoyed 52 years of ma rriage together prior to her death on March 13, 1993. Ray enjoyed farmi ng and was a 35 year partner in Jonen and Bies Construction in Kaukauna. D uring the 1950's they developed the Welhouse Farm into the present subdivi sion that surrounds St. Al's Parish. He was a charter member of St. Vince nt DePaul Society and an active member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Ka ukauna.He is survived by his children, Ray and Mary Ellen Bies of Glendale, WI, G erald and Barbara Bies of Kaukauna, Carol and Jerry Sanderfoot of Combin ed Locks and Don and Ann Bies of Winneconne, WI, 12 grandchildren, four gr eat grandchildren, his wife's family and numerous nieces and nephews. He w as preceded in death by his wife, two sisters, Lena Gehrig and Margaret Si ebers and one brother, John Bies.The funeral service will be 6:00 pm Wednesday at ST. ALOYSIUS CATHOLIC CHU RCH, Kaukauna with Fr. David Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Ma ry Cemetery, Kaukauna.     Strick, Sylvia C.Sylvia Strick, of Menasha/ Combined Locks, passed away peacefully on Mond ay morning, February 20, 2006, at Gardenview Assisted Living in Menasha. S he was born in Little Chute, daughter of the late Peter and Katherine (Ebb en) Biese. Sylvia was married to Joseph Strick who preceded her in dea th on October 1, 1982.     Backus, Darlene C. nee: Vandenberg
    Darlene C. Backus, age 76, of Kaukauna, died on Monday, July 14, 2008, at Colony Oaks Care Center, surrounded by family and friends. Darlene was born on August 11, 1931. Her parents Vince and Nell (Bies) Vandenberg preceded her in death. Darlene married James Backus on August 12, 1968, in Appleton, and he survives her. She enjoyed working at Gimbles, Pranges' and Kohls. Darlene loved traveling, and enjoyed hot fudge sundaes with her grandchildren. She belonged to the T.O.P.S. club for many years. Her favorite pastimes were bird watching, shopping and bowling. She also loved cats and dogs.
    In addition to her husband, Darlene is survived by her children: LaVonne (Pat) Frank, Winneconne; Rick (special friend Sheldon Shur), Milwaukee; David (Cindy) Neenah; Carol (Steve) Bowden, Appleton; Ann (Rick) Gehl, Stockbridge; and Scott (Julie), of Kaukauna. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a step- sister, Sally Van Beek.
    The Mass of Resurrection for Darlene will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2008, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Fargo Funeral Home, and also at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. A memorial is being established.
    The family would like to give a special thank you to the Dialysis Center of Appleton (Fresenius), Colony Oaks Care Center, Theda Care Hospice, and special friends, Bonnie and Sandy.

    Lucille A. Weyenberg, age 67, of Kimberly, passed away at her home on Tues day, November 29, 2005, following a courageous battle with multiple illnes ses. Lucille was born in rural Kaukauna on November 14, 1938, daught er of the late Christian and Lena (Bies) Gerig. On January 21, 1958, she m arried Daniel Weyenberg at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kaukauna; he surv ives.She treasured each day she was given, and enjoyed time spent at the cotta ge on Berry Lake as well as spending time with her family and friends. Eve ryone will remember Lucy as an awesome cook, and a dedicated and loving st ay-at-home mother to her children. Over the years, she held several part-t ime jobs, but dearest to her heart were the years she spent at West Side E lementary School where she was known as "Grandma" to many through the seve nteen years she worked as a noon hour supervisor. He married the former Barbara Hoehne on October 16, 19 71 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. She survives. Jerry worked as a heavy eq uipment operator, was a member of Local Operating Engineers Union #139 a nd contributed his time and skill to the building of much of the Fox Citie s. Jerry enjoyed his workshop, where he could engage his mechanical min d. He recently realized his dream of owning an RV and traveling around t he United States.     Joseph A. Strick, Jr., 69, Combined Locks, passed away on July 17, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Joe was born on October 14, 1945 to Joseph and Sylvia (Biese) Strick. He has two sisters: Mary Kay Nytes and Jenny (Dennis) Schubring. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Lynn Wydeven, and celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. He was very proud of his family. His children: Mark Strick, David Strick and Greg (Elizabeth) Strick. He loved Elizabeth like a daughter, and he delighted in his nine grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Kennedy, Maria and Isaiah Strick, Raymond and Rylee Strick, and Madeline, Emma and Annie Strick. His family was the center of his life. He is also survived by Lynn's family: Sharon Gracyalny, Jim and Judy Wydeven, Kay and Duane De Groot, Barb and Frank Gifford, Mary and Rod Delfosse as well as his god-children, nieces and nephews whom he loved. He had many friends, including his Wolf River buddies Haze and Steiny.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws: Ron Nytes, Bev and Jerry Van Toll, Stan Gracyalny, Becky Phillips and Lynn's parents: Lucina and Vincent Wydeven.
    In 1964 Joe started work at Combined Locks Paper Company as a "broke hustler" and worked his way up through the ranks, becoming a Tour Boss by age 28. He was a "natural born" papermaker and was named Paper Machine Superintendent. In 1996, at the National PIMA Convention in Orlando, Florida he was chosen "Superintendent of the Year." He was voted this award in just the first year he was eligible and became the youngest recipient of this prestigious honor. That same year he was also chosen to become a member of "Couch Pit University," an elite organization in the paper industry. He was given the title of Principal Papermaker and later retired from Appleton Coated, Combined Locks Mill at age 56. He then worked for Appleton Coated as a consultant until he retired at age 62. While employed at Locks he was instrumental in the design and construction of Number 7 Paper Machine. He traveled to paper mills in many states and Europe and was well known and highly respected in the industry. He had a strong work ethic and demanded the same effort from all his people. Though he worked in management, he always stood up for the hourly employees.
    Joe's happiest times were spent with family. He loved watching his sons play sports from elementary school all the way through college. He enjoyed many trips with Lynn through the years. His favorite pastime was spending time at his place on the Wolf River with his boys and friends, hunting and fishing. His nine grandchildren were all the light of his world. He was also active in his community and loved coaching his sons in sports. He had a strong Catholic faith and served on numerous boards and committees at St. Paul, as well as being a Eucharistic Minister.
    He was a strong person who fought MDS and Leukemia for more than two years. He was an inspiration to so many, never giving up. He humbly appreciated the many prayers offered for him during his illness.
    The family would like to thank everyone who prayed. The kindness of family, friends and neighbors will never be forgotten. Special thanks to Judy and Lee, Audrey and Bob and Joyce and Roger. Thank you to the dedicated medical professionals who worked so hard to cure him, the special staff at FVHO, especially Dr. Yao and Patty, Dr. Al-Kali and Brittany Rask at Mayo Clinic, as well as the brilliant staff at Froedtert Hospital in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. Special thanks to Dr. Pasquini and Dr. Michaelis and PA Natasha, who spoiled Joe with cherry pies. He adopted the BMT nurses as "honorary daughters" and was thrilled when Allison and Ashley visited him at Brewster Village. His Physical Therapists were all exceptional, especially Mary Ellen, Holly and Kelly. Thanks also to the caring people at Brewster Village.     Obituary:
    Nick Bies, 30, passed away following a very unexpected and brief illness on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2010, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. Nick was born in Appleton on February 27, 1980, the son of the late Jerry Bies and Barbara (Hoehne) Bies, whom Nick made his home with in Little Chute. Nick was currently employed as a lab technician at Pace Analytical. He loved sports of all kinds, but especially enjoyed following the Milwaukee Brewers, the Arizona Cardinals, and the Detroit Red Wings. In the summer he enjoyed softball, and in the winter, bowling and fantasy football, but anytime at all was a good time to spend with friends at the 10th Frame or Dr. Jekyll's in Appleton. There he often carried on deep discussions about countless topics like his philosophy on life, politics, and religion which he always seemed to know a lot about. Nick was special that way he had the gift of just knowing how to be with people. And they gathered around him. He could make friends very quickly, and more than likely, they were bound to be longtime friends after spending some time with Nick. He loved everyone, and knew how to make others feel happy and loved. He always listened and never judged; he always made your day better for being with him.
    Nick is survived by his mother, Barbara Bies, Little Chute; two brothers, Ken Bies, Appleton; and Greg (Jaime) Bies, Platteville, and their son Morgan; sister, Julie Bies, Dallas; a special uncle, Don (Ann) Bies, and their sons Joe, Dan, and Andy were like a second family to Nick. Other survivors include many cousins, aunts, uncles, and countless Facebook friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Bies; his grandparents, Bob (Marjorie) Hoehne and Ray (Agnes) Bies; uncle, Jerry Hoehne; and an aunt, Carol Bies Sanderfoot.
    Family and friends of Nick are invited to gather at Van Abel's of Hollandtown on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, from 4 until 7 p.m. There, memories will be shared, stories will be told, and Nick will be loved and remembered. In lieu of flowers, the family is establishing a memorial fund to honor Nick's memory.
    Nick, the world will be less of a place without you. We will miss you dearly.
