    James "Jim" J. Vaughan age 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 24, 2016.
    He was born in Mattoon, WI, September 18, 1934, and was the youngest of nine children of the late Bert and Anna (Pritchard) Vaughan. Jim married Joann Hottenstine Kroenke on April 29, 1967.
    Jim was a member of First English Lutheran Church and followed in the footsteps of his brothers and proudly served his country. Jim served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict, where one of his most memorable moments was guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in June of 1953. Following his service, Jim became an active member of the American Legion Post #38, where he served as Commander in 1963 and led the American Legion "Brass Hats" drill team to two state championships. Jim's hobbies included flying and boating. Jim received his single engine private pilot license in 1963 and served as Fleet Captain of the Appleton Yacht Club in 1974 and 1975 and then served as Commodore from 1976 thru 1978. Jim wore many hats during his tenure at the yacht club, but considered his greatest accomplishment the transition of the old clubhouse to the facility it is today. Jims love of "toys" did not end at planes and boats, but incorporated cars during his long career as a car salesman for Gibson Motors, Tusler Pontiac, and Les Stumpf Ford.
    Aside from his parents, Jim was preceded in death by four brothers: George, Grant, Francis, and Bruce, and 4 sisters; Grace Jansen, Gladys Dorn, Gloria Larie, and Jane Vaughan.
    Jim is survived by his loving wife, Joann; daughter Lori (Bob) Schnese; grandchildren, Andrew and Daina Schnese; three sisters-in-law; Mabel and Rosie Vaughan, Appleton; Marge Vaughan, Sheboygan; Niece Judy (Tom and Son Todd) Hooyman and many nieces and nephews. In addition to spending time with his grandchildren, Jim enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews at family events.
    Funeral service for Jim will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Friends and relatives may visit at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 10 am until the time of service. Full military honors performed by Appleton Legion Post #38 will immediately follow.
    The family would like to thank Affinity Hospice and the staff at Brewster Village for their unwavering support and care. Jim had a soft spot for any young person in need; he and his wife Joann sponsored several children through World Vision and each fall Jim would go shopping for warm coats to donate to children in need.
