    Joe Murphy died February 5 at his home in Yona, Guam. He was born February 23, 1927, in Appleton, Wisconsin to William and Gwen (Robinson) Murphy. His father owned Murphy's Dairy in Neenah. Joe joined the Navy at age 17. He returned to graduate from Neenah High in 1946 and elope graduation night with Marion Muth. Their marriage lasted 62 years and produced eight children and 42 grand and great-grand children. He earned a journalism degree at UW and worked as a reporter, editor and columnist in Wisconsin, Oregon and California. In 1965, he answered a classified ad and took a job as editor of the Pacific Daily News on Guam. Joe led a life full of adventure. He flew with the Blue Angels, traveled around the world twice and visited China when it first opened to Americans. Joe retired from editing in 1988 but continued to write his columns until his death. He wrote two books: Guam is a Four Letter Word and Son of a Four Letter Word.
    Joe is survived by his wife, Marion and seven children: Colleen, Maureen, Shannon, Timothy, Erin, Megan, and Joey.
    He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kerry Lombardi, his sister Patricia Johnson, and his two brothers, William and Jack (John) Murphy. His baby brother Jack died three weeks ago at Theda Clark Hospital.

    A wake service for John J. Murphy, 80, Appleton, will be Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at the Whiting Boat House, 98 5th St., Neenah, beginning at 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
    John died surrounded by his family on Jan. 15, 2009, at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah, after a sudden illness. He was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Outagamie County. He married Mary Ellen Samson of Feb. 12, 1949, in Neenah. John was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the U.S.S. Randolph. He was a graduate of Neenah High School. John was active in Democratic Party politics, serving as county chairman of the 1960 Kennedy campaign. He also was a delegate to the Democratic Convention in Chicago in 1956. He served as president of the Spring Road School Board and was a founder of the Town of Menasha Boys Little League.
    John worked for many years at Riverside Paper in Appleton. He also worked in real estate and had many business interests. His last job was making deliveries for Walgreens.
    He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; a brother, Joe, Guam; a daughter, Sharon, Milwaukee; six sons, John, Carlsbad, Calif.; Hank, Florence; Daniel, Appleton; Patrick, Bloomington, Minn.; James, Appleton; and Sean, Neenah. He also is survived by ten grandchildren, Gwenyth, Megan, Angelica, Tierney, Ryan, Lauren, Shavaughn, Andy, Elise and Tessa.
    A daughter, Shelly, preceded him in death, as did a brother, William; and his sister, Patricia Johnson.
