    United States Army during the Korean Conflict (1952-1953) where he earned a purple heart and other meritorious commendations. While all wars are harrowing experiences, Jack was proud to have served his country.

    Obituary:
    John J. "Jack" Pennings, 77, rural New Franken, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at St. Vincent Hospital after a short illness. Jack was born March 19, 1932, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to the late John C. and Esther M. (DeDecker) Pennings. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict (1952-1953) where he earned a purple heart and other meritorious commendations. While all wars are harrowing experiences, Jack was proud to have served his country.
    Jack married the love of his life, Yvonne Agamaite, on July 7, 1954, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dyckesville and enjoyed fifty-five marvelous years together. Together, Jack and Yvonne served as nursing home administrators for many years. Jack was also employed at Green Bay Transit for several years. In recent years, Jack enjoyed his retirement spending time with his family and especially his three grandchildren who were his pride and joy.
    Jack is survived by his wife, Yvonne; three sons: Rev. Gary Pennings, Kansas City, Kansas; Daniel (Cheryl) Pennings, De Pere; Todd (Sue) Pennings, New Franken; three beloved grandchildren: Adam, Jacob and Maria; two brothers and three sisters-in-law: Larry (Arlene) Pennings, Denmark; Richard (Elaine) Pennings, New Franken; Beverly Pennings, Green Bay; two sisters and three brothers-in-law: Joyce (Calvin) Abts, New Franken; Barbara (George) Schmelzer, Sturgeon Bay; Theodore Sterletske, Denmark; and additional family member, John Huven, Green Bay, (who lived with the family in his youth); five brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law: Donald Agamaite, Sobieski; James (Linda) Agamaite, Armstrong Creek; Art Alexander (Lucy), Green Bay; Lavonne Agamaite, Luxemburg; Evelyn Agamaite, Dyckesville; Sandy (Laurel) Joniaux, Luxemburg; Martin Konop, Green Bay; numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by one brother, Tom Pennings; one sister, Mary Sterletske; Yvonne's parents, Felix and Gladys (Paque) Agamaite; two brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law: Felix Agamaite, Jr., Garland Agamaite, Donna Agamaite, Gloria Alexander, Lorna Agamaite, Jean Agamaite and Diane Konop.
    Friends may call at the McMAHON FUNERAL HOME, LUXEMBURG, 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2009. Prayer service, 7 p.m., Thursday. Visitation will continue between 10 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., Friday at St. Joseph Church, Champion. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with Rev. Gary Pennings and Rev. Dean Dombrowski concelebrating. Entombment at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Green Bay.
    Despite Jack's many medical issues, he never gave up, maintained a positive attitude and relied on the support of his family and his faith. Jack will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
