    Obituary:
Mrs. Doris May Velte, 82, a resident of Preston Place, Redgranite, formerly of Wild Rose and Kaukauna, died Wednesday evening, Sept. 24, 2008, at the Berlin Memorial Hospital. Doris was born on Dec. 24, 1925, in Kaukauna, the daughter of Raymond H. and Gladys K. Canham Nagel. On Oct. 1, 1949, Doris married Thomas H. Velte. They shared 56 years together until his death on May 10, 2007. Prior to her marriage, Doris was employed as an Executive Secretary at Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co. in Kaukauna. After her children began attending school, Doris had worked part-time as a medical transcriptionist at Kaukauna Community Hospital. She had also worked as a Secretarial Assistant to the school psychologist at the Electra Quinney School in Kaukauna.
Following their retirement in 1985, the Veltes moved to Big Hills Lake near Wild Rose. Doris was a faithful member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redgranite, and had been a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Kaukauna. She had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter in Appleton, and was presently a member of Wautoma Chapter #198, Order of Eastern Star in Wautoma.
Doris is survived by her four children, Christopher (Shirley) Velte, Hortonville; Barbara (Dale) Velte Failor, Ripon; Katherine Velte, Shawano; and John (Valerie) Velte, Mooresville, N.C. Doris and Tom considered themselves most blessed to have three treasured granddaughters, Jessica, Susan and Ellen Velte, North Carolina. Doris is further survived by three sisters, Ruth Keough, Brookfield; Janice Frank, Mountain; and Shirley Margenau, Little Chute; three brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Betty Velte, Rio Rancho, N.M.; Bill and Mary Velte, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; and Chuck and Vera Velte, Westbank, British Columbia. Doris is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends who will recall her strong values of home, family, church and community.
Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom; her beloved parents, Ray and Gladys Nagel; and her dear parents-in-law, C. Earl and Ora Velte; two brothers, Raymond Nagel, Jr. and James Nagel; and James' wife, Flavia Belling Nagel; her brother-in-law, William Frank; and sister-in-law, Bess Velte.
She was a sociable person, enjoying the company of others and liking to entertain friends and family, even though she suffered numerous health challenges throughout her lifetime. Fortunately, she had an exceptionally loving and loyal lifemate in Tom Velte, who stood by her in good times and bad. They shared a love of travel as well as decades of peaceful family weekends at their Waushara County tree farm.
Memorial Services for Doris M. Velte will be held Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redgranite. (The Church is located on the east side of Redgranite, south of Highway 21, across from the Citgo Station.) An Eastern Star Service, conducted by Wautoma Chapter #198, Order of Eastern Star will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the Memorial Service with the Rev. Dorothy Heckner Mendonca, Pastor, officiating. Friends may call at the Church Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the Memorial Services. There will also be a time of sharing and refreshment at the church following the Services. Graveside Services will be held THURSDAY, Oct. 2, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Union Cemetery (Highways Z & HH) in Kaukauna. Those attending the Graveside Services should meet directly at the Union Cemetery Thursday morning.
A Memorial has been established to our mom's Church Building Fund, the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redgranite. This cause was very dear to her heart.
The Ruminski Funeral Home of Redgranite, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Doris' family would like to thank all of the wonderful healthcare professionals at Preston Place, Berlin Memorial Hospital, Appleton Medical Center and Juliette Manor Nursing Home of Berlin for their professional and kind care of Doris. Her strong will to survive kept her going long after many would have given up and her health care providers made it all possible.

Special thanks to Dr. Beth Gillis, Dorothy Bowan, Kimmery Weber, Kay Shelby-Norman, and the late Jolene Bowan.
