    Biography:
HERMAN MIELKE, who owns one of Cicero township's best equipped farming properties, situated on section 9, has been extensively engaged in farming and stock raising for a number of years. He was born September 27, 1868, in Washington county, Wisconsin, and is a son of Adam and Wilhelmina (Hubner) Mielke, and a grandson of Martin and Louisa (Yokabitz) Mielke. Adam Mielke, who was born in Germany, came to the United States in 1856, on a sailing vessel which took six weeks to cross the ocean, and settled in Washington county, Wisconsin, where he resided until 1879, and in that year located in Cicero township, Outagamie county. Herman Mielke grew up in Washington county, and after his father had left for Cicero township, he remained for three years at Fond du Lac, then coming on to join the family. There were eighty acres of wild land in the home tract, on which were a little log house and barn, and this land the young man eventually purchased from his father, later adding forty acres more, of which fifteen had been cleared. Mr. Mielke now has all of his property in a high state of cultivation, and his buildings include a basement barn, 40x80x18 feet; a hog house, 16x36 feet; a wagon shed and addition to barn, 22x56 feet; a double corn crib, 12x24 feet, and a large, modern eleven-room house. The nucleus for this magnificent farm, with its great fields of grain, and its pasture lands filled with sleek herds of cattle, was one cow and a yoke of oxen, the family's sole possessions on coming to this land. Thrift and enterprise, with years of hard labor, however, soon transformed the wilderness into a fertile farm, and made the poor travelers into prosperous and prominent agriculturists. In 1883, Herman Mielke was married to Rosa Kuhn, daughter of Christ and Catherine (Anderes) Kuhn, the latter of whom died in 1902, aged fifty-two years. Christ Kuhn was born in March, 1839, in Germany, son of Mathias and Catherine Kuhn, and was but four years of age when he was brought to this country. In 1879 he secured a tract of eighty acres of wild land in Cicero township, and there he has been engaged in tilling the soil to the present time. He and his wife had these children: Kate, Henry, Rosa, John, Martha, Anna, William, George, Theodore and Lottie, all of whom are living. Mr. and Mrs. Mielke have had seven children, as follows: Herbert, Martha, Gertrude, Lawrence, Ada, Edna and Earl.

Herman married Kuhn, Rosa 26 Sep 1893. Rosa (daughter of Kuhn, Christ and Anderes, Katherine) was born 21 Jul 1875; died 26 Jun 1944, Black Creek, Outagamie, Wisconsin, USA. [Group Sheet]

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's church this morning for Stephen Kappell, 18, and burial will be in the parish Cemetery. Stephen, described by friends and neighbors as a "Clean cut all American boy", was the victim of a mysterious tragedy at Oshkosh, where he had entered the university this fall and was a candidate for the freshman football team. Kaukauna residents were shocked to learn that the body found in Lake Winnebago last Saturday, with ankles and knees bound and a 30 pound stone tied to it were identified at the state lab as he has. He had been reported missing from his dormitory in Oshkosh since last Tuesday.

Carrie F. Forster, age 54, passed away on Monday, October 5 after a long journey with cancer. She was born on July 29, 1961 in Appleton. Carrie went on to graduate from Appleton West High School in 1980. In her adult life she worked for many years as a sales representative at United Paper Corporation in Menasha.

Carrie loved birds, flowers and spending time with friends, but the most important part of her life was her loving daughter, Calyn. Carrie and Calyn had an inseparable relationship. They loved every minute that they spent together. Carrie and Calyn loved watching funny movies, taking shopping trips and cuddling. Carrie was the queen of the gardening and passed those special skills on to Calyn. In March of 2014, Carrie was diagnosed with cancer and given just three to six months to live. Carrie, being so strong-willed, fought and turned those three months into 18 months. In those 18 months she was able to be there as Calyn was engaged and later married in April of 2015. Carrie and Calyn shared a relationship that was deep, meaningful and everlasting.
Carrie is survived by her daughter, Calyn (Jon) Friedl; mother, Eileen Mielke; sister: Theresa (Jim) School; brother, Greg Mielke; ex-husband: Richard Forster.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Mielke; aunts: Eunice Kappel and Dot Mongerelli.
