    Ludwig Blum, son of George Blum and Maria Blum, now a resident of the Town of Wauwatosa was born at Grand Duchy Mecklenburg Schwerin on the 14th day of November, 1837, a laborer by occupation, and Miss Augusta Getschow, daughter of Christian Getschow and Maria Getschow, now a resident of the town of Wauwatosa, born at Grand Duchy, Mecklenburg, Schwerin on the 15th day of September, 1839...
    Look up the history of Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Fred was born October 7, 1832: At that time, Frederick Francis I was the Grand Duke, the first monarch.
    When Augusta was born: Paul Frederick was the Grand Duke;
    When Sister Johanna Christina was born, (1844), Frederick Francis II was Grand Duke.

    Ancestry always wants to lump it all into Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which was formed after the second World War.

    I believe that the Getschow family emigrated ca 1852. I found his sister, her marriage, and descendants, and another sister who married Frederick alia Frederic W. Wettengel. In the 1870 U. S. Census, under Getchner, which you found, Fred's mother is listed as Mary, age 71 (ca 1789).
