    Obituary:
Our beloved Father, James Ottmer Wiegand, went home to his Lord and wife on Sunday, June 1, 2014. Jim was born in Appleton on May 7, 1922 to the late George and Mamie (Gilsdorf) Wiegand. Dad married the love of his life, Georgeann Boehnlein, on September 18, 1943 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Menasha. They enjoyed 55 years of wedded bliss before she passed in 1999 and he has missed her so much.
Dad lived a long and full life. He graduated in 1943 from Menasha High School where he was very active in sports including 4 years as boxing champion, football, basketball and track. His pole vault record of 11 feet (using an aluminum pole) was unbeaten for 25 years. At the 1942 tournament, "Wege" threw the ball from half-court, made the basket to beat Marion to win the game. His diving nickname was "bombastic". He also talked his Dad into buying a blue convertible while still in high school and was known for driving the girls around. He built and flew model airplanes; he was an avid hunter pursuing many ducks at Courtney and Plummer's Marsh in Winneconne, pheasant, and was still goose hunting in his 80's; he loved to fish, boat and ski; he could never resist a motorcycle ride; and sponsored and played in a bowling league and also coached and played in basketball leagues. He was active in Boy Scouts at St. Pat's and the transporter of equipment to Gardner Dam in the 1950's. Dad would come home on a summer day and if the boys were out water skiing he would say "I'm next", roll up his bib overalls (which he wore all the time), take out his wallet, take off his shoes and socks, sit on the dock and they would pull him 2 times around the lake. He would time it just right, let go of the rope and coast back to the dock, put his shoes back on and say "Ma said it's time to eat supper boys" and never get wet!!
Dad worked at the KC Lakeview Mill from 1943 until he went to work for his Dad after WWII. When George passed away in 1953, Jim and his brother, Henry (Hank), became owners of Wiegand Builders. They eventually added a lumber company and Jim oversaw the home building and Hank ran the lumber company and counter. Wiegand Builders was well known in the area and we still hear all the time "Jim built our house". In 1983 they phased out the home building and ran the lumber company and specialized in custom cutting and building smaller custom-made items such as wooden toys, cabinets, picnic tables, etc. Hank retired in 1984 and then Jim and Georgie ran the business until their retirement in 1991. Selling the family business was a hard decision and left a void for a long time for the family. Mom and Dad went on to traveling and enjoyed many trips, including Israel, Europe, and the Mediterranean, in addition to many bus trips in the Midwest.
Dad built his house on Little Lake Butte de Mort in Menasha in 1949 and lived there 59 years. He was a hard worker, added on five additions to his house and made many pieces of furniture for Ma. He loved to sit in his backyard and watch the sunset (and tv). He spent his final years at the Valley VNA but never lost his infectious smile, laughter and love of whistling which was passed along to his son, Tom. Obituary:
The Reverend Gordon J. Gilsdorf, age 89, entered eternal life on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, after residing at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. With faith in Christ and supported by his loving family and friends, he nobly endured the debilitating effects of a stroke.
Father Gilsdorf was born March 23, 1925, in Sheboygan to Othmar and Matilda (Gehl) Gilsdorf. He received his primary education at Sacred Heart School in Sherwood, attended high school and junior college at Mt. Calvary, studied philosophy and theology at St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee, and did advanced summer studies at St. Norbert College, Marquette University and Loras College in Dubuque, IA. In 1960, he earned a masters degree in English from Marquette University and did further studies in journalism and drama at Marquette. Fr. Gordon was ordained a priest by Bishop Stanislaus V. Bona on June 11, 1949. His ministerial appointments were assistant pastor at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay and Holy Cross, Kaukauna. In 1953, he was appointed to the faculty at the newly founded Sacred Heart Seminary in Oneida and served as its first spiritual director. During those years, Fr. Gilsdorf served as vice-rector, was elected president of the Priests' Senate, and was a member of the Diocesan Board of Consultors. In 1976, Fr. Gordon became a member of the faculty at St. Joseph Academy in Green Bay until its closing in 1990 after which he became a member of the faculty at Notre Dame de la Baie Academy where he served until his illness in December of 2011.
Fr. Gilsdorf was a priest, poet, and faculty member who mentored thousands upon thousands of students. As priest he celebrated the sacraments and preached God's word at the seminary and in many parishes, especially at St. Nicholas in Freedom, St. Pius in Little Suamico, and St. Benedict in Suamico. As a poet and author, Fr. Gordon penned three books of poetry. In collaboration with Fr. William Zimmer, the "History of the Diocese of Green Bay" was published in 1968, the centennial of the Diocese. Fr. Gilsdorf also authored a centennial history of St. Nicholas Parish, Freedom in 1960. As a teacher, Fr. Gordon was a master. Over the years he was recognized for ability in teaching his students to write. In 1996, the governor of the State of Wisconsin named him Teacher of the Year. In April of 2010, Fr. Gilsdorf received the National Catholic Educational Association Secondary Education Award. As priest, poet, and teacher, Fr. Gilsdorf demonstrated that he was a good steward of God's many gifts.
When asked about his life and ministry, Fr. Gordon commented: "I am never happier nor more fulfilled than in the classroom, except perhaps in the pulpit or at the altar. These are uncomplicated spots, places where I often feel I am where God wanted me to be. What more could one ask of his life!" And, as for the bottom line of the meaning of life, the last stanza in Fr. Gilsdorf's "Lyrics for the Christian" reads: "I searched / God's lexicon / To fathom 'Bethlehem' / and 'Calvary.' It simply said: / See 'Love.'" Fr. Gilsdorf knew that love is the beginning and end of our lives.
Fr. Gordon is survived by a brother and a sister: Richard (Lucy) Gilsdorf, Charlesburg, and Sister Marita Gilsdorf, ANG, Sherwood, who was Fr. Gordon's primary and loving care-giver. He is further survived by fourteen nephews and nieces and many grand-nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, David and Fr. Daniel, by two sisters-in-law, Jean (Richard) Gilsdorf and Bernetta (David) Gilsdorf, as well as a nephew, Tom Gilsdorf and a niece, Marian Gilsdorf.
Reception of the body by the Regional Vicar, Rev. Richard Klingeisen will take place at 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 108 S. Sixth St. in Hilbert, WI. The Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. The visitation will continue on Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. The Funeral Liturgy, expressing our faith and hope in the promised glory of the Lord's Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Bishop Robert Morneau will be the celebrant and Bishop Robert Banks will concelebrate. Entombment will be in the Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to benefit Notre Dame de la Baie Academy.
A special thank you is extended to the staff of St. Paul's Home for their loving care of Father during his three years in Kaukauna.

He was elected by his fellow priests and appointed by Bishop Wycislo to the first presbyteral council, then known as the priests' Senate. In that capacity he twice represented the Green Bay Council at the national conventions of the National Federation of Priests' Councils, first in San Diego, CA and then in Baltimore, MD. Father Dan was an avid fisherman and deer hunter, both with bow and arrow and gun. For more than forty years he was a member of the Omar Hunting Club, a camp consisting of all priests, located in the Manitowish Waters/Mercer area. Kenneth Robert Hoffmann, age 46, of Chilton, died on Monday, March 8, 2010, at the Chilton Care Center in Chilton. He was born May 6, 1963, in Chilton, son of Barbara (Weber) and the late Marvin J. Hoffmann. Ken married Dena M. Jandrey on June 19, 1993, at Peace UCC in Potter. He graduated from Chilton High School in 1982 and during his high school days he wrote songs and played the bass guitar for his own enjoyment and his brother's annoyance. After graduation, he worked as an EMT in the Chilton area and volunteered as an EMT in Oshkosh for ice racing events on Lake Winnebago. He also worked for Foley Company in Chilton, and most recently, Ariens Company in Brillion. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in New Holstein and THE Chilton Fantasy Baseball League. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially his favorite drivers, the late Alan Kulwicki, and Matt Kenseth. Ken also enjoyed baseball, watching the Milwaukee Brewers and taking his family to the Timber Rattlers games in Appleton. The time he could spend with his entire family was very important; pit-fires and water fights with the dog will leave lasting, joyful memories for generations to come. Christmas was one of Ken's favorite times of the year; getting the outside of the house decorated was one of the things he looked forward to the most. Since he was afraid of heights, he always made sure Dena was there to climb the ladder and hang lights from the eves.
Survivors include his wife, Dena; his mother, Barbara; mother-in-law, Lyndoris Jandrey; two children: Carrie and Mackenzie; a brother, Mike Hoffmann; a sister, Margaret Mary Maas; a brother-in-law, Keith (Laurie) Jandrey; and a sister-in-law, Amy Jandrey. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, at St. John UCC (2111 Church St.) in New Holstein, with the Rev. James Werner officiating. Friends may call at the church from 2 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2010. Wieting Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
