Descendant of Appleton Pioneer Dies in Florida
Miss Florence Bounds, 84, granddaughter of an Appleton pioneer and former Kaukauna High School teacher, died Tuesday in Green Coves Springs, Fla.
Miss Bounds was a granddaughter of Elihu Spencer, an Appleton pioneer and the man for whom Spencer Street is named.
Miss Bounds was born in Appleton, attended school here, and was graduated in 1905 from Lawrence university where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. The Kaukauna High School yearbook was later dedicated to her in recognition for her many years of teaching.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church.
Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Obituary:
Funeral services were held in Appleton Saturday for Miss Florence E. Bounds, Latin and history teacher at Kaukauna high school for nearly 40 years until her retirement in 1949. After her graduation from Lawrence college in 1905, she entered a career of teaching coming to Kaukauna at the old high school in the Park school building in 1910. One of her former associates recalls said she came here when boys and girls attended high school for the purpose of self-improvement, often denying themselves the attraction of a job in the mill or railroad yards which were open to a lad of 14. There were no buses to ride and
tuition for those outside the city was paid by the parents.
