elchert, Carl J.
Carl Melchert, age 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 5, 2006, at Manorcare Health Services. He was born May 16, 1921, in Appleton, son of the late Benjamin and Minnie (Wyro) Melchert. He married Ruby Johnson July 3, 1948, sharing 57 years together. He was employed by Miller Electric for close to 40 years and retired in 1984. Carl served with the Army in the Pacific theater during WWII. He was a life long member of Mount Olive Ev. Lutheran Church, the Appleton VFW Post #2278, Appleton American Legion Post #38 and the Military Order of Cooties. Carl enjoyed many years of camping and fishing with his family. He took special pride and pleasure working in his yard. Christmas was his favorite time of the year and he made it very special.
Carl will be missed by his loving wife Ruby, two daughters and sons-in-law; Carla and Ralph Von Fossen, Tallahasse, FL; Lynn and Michael Evers, Appleton; a son and daughter-in-law: Steven and Donna Melchert, Appleton; a sister: Bernice Thyssen, Appleton; six grandchildren: Erik, Nick and Scott Melchert; Krista, Michelle, and Ryan Evers; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Melchert. Littleton, CO; a brother-in-law, Clifford (Shirley) Johnson, Kaukauna and a sister-in-law: Jane Johnson, Kaukauna.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Donald and Gilbert.
Service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2006, at Mount Olive Ev. Lutheran Church, 930 E. Florida Ave., Appleton, with the Rev. Robert Raasch officiating. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorials may be directed to Mount Olive Ev. Lutheran Church.
The Family would like to thank the staff of Manocare and Heartland Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they gave Carl during his stay.
