Obituary:
The death of Math Helf, one of the well known residents of the city, occurred last Friday at Plymouth at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gerhard Klunk. Mr. Helf had been unwell for about two years. As a preparation for death he was fortified by the sacrament of the Catholic church.
Mat Helf was born in Prussia, Germany in 1851, and at the age of four located at St. Peters, Fond du Lac County. Later he settled in Kaukauna where he resided except for the greater part of the past two years which he spent with his daughter at Plymouth and his son at Hilbert.He was a kind husband and was a member of Holy Cross court No. 309 C.O.F. and Branch 64 C.K. of Wis.
He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife, Mrs. M. Helf of this city and seven children namely; Joseph of Montana, Jacob of Gillette, Mrs. Klunk of Plymouth, Kate of Milwaukee, George of Hilbert, and two daughters who belong to the Franciscan order, one being located at Petoska and the other at Sawyer; also two brothers and two sisters, George of Hatley, Peter of Milwaukee, Mrs. M. Bergs of St. Cloud, Minn., and Mrs. Datch of Milwaukee; also four step children.
The funeral was held Tuesday morning at the Catholic Church in Plymouth, interment being in the Parish cemetery. Father Bernard of Milwaukee, a nephew of the deceased officiated. Jos. Faust, L. E. Vandenberg and Nic Huss of the C.O.F. and John Rank, Wm. Brill and Jacob Kline of the C.K. of Wis., all of Kaukauna, acted as pallbearers.
The deceased was the father of Geo. Helf, our local harnessmaker.

Town Schleswig Resident Passes Away On Sunday. Kiel. - George A. Helf, 66, a resident of the town of Schleswig, died late Sunday afternoon at his home, one and one-half miles east of here, following a lingering illness. Born Sept. 24, 1880, in Brothertown (Calumet county), the deceased was the son of Mathias and Gertrude Gilles Helf. He was married in June, 1907, to Miss Margaret Mihm of Mount Calvary. The couple resided for a number of years at Hilbert, where Mr. Helf operated a harness shop and later was engaged in farming.
For the past 12 years they made their home in the town of Schleswig near Rockville. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church, Kiel. Survivors include the widow; three daughters, Mrs. George (Cecelia) Froming, New Holstein; Mrs. Frank (Doris) Mikolic, Sheboygan, and Miss Jane Helf, at home; four sons, Jerome and Marcel, Sheboygan; Aurel of Kiel and Gerald, at home; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph of Tacoma, Wash., and Jacob, Gillett, Wis., and one sister, Mrs. Anna Klunke,
Plymouth. Funeral services will be held at 9:3-0 a.m. Wednesday at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, and at 10 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul church. The Rev. F.X. Kheil, pastor, will officiate, and interment will be made in the parish cemetery.

First Lieut. James D. Helf, Klein Street arrived home Saturday from Europe to spend a 30-day furlough. Lieut. Helf, bombardier of a heavy bomber crew with the 15th Army Air Force in Italy, made the trip back by transport plane. Following his leave he will be leaving for overseas again this time to the Pacific. Lieut. Helf was inducted into the Army in January 1943 and went overseas September 1944. He is credited with 53 bombing missions and was awarded the Distinguish Flying Cross. He also wears a distinguished unit badge, air medal with three Oak leaf clusters and four bronze stars on his European theater ribbon.

News Mention:
First Lieut. James Helf, Klein Street, was given an honorable discharge from the Army air force October 19 at Truax field Madison. Helf served one year overseas in the European theater. He served as a bombardier with the 15th Air Force and
was credited with 53 missions. He wears the EOT ribbon with four campaign stars, air medal with three Oak leaf clusters, distinguish flying cross and presidential unit citation.

Obituary:
James Daniel Helf, age 88, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Appleton Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 13, 1924 in Kaukauna, WI to Richard and Selma (Weber) Helf. Jim graduated from Kaukauna High school class of 1942. He attended one year of college at Oshkosh Teacher's College before enlisting in the Army Air Corps. He served as a first lieutenant, Bombardier and Navigator and completed over 35 missions during WWll. He received numerous commendations including; The Distinguished Flying Cross, Air metal 5 clusters and a Presidential Citation. Following the war he attended and graduated from Ripon College where he also played football and was named to the All American Team. Following his college career he received an offer to play for the Chicago Bears and a letter of interest from the Baltimore Colts. Jim decided instead to put his love for football and kids into teaching Math and coaching football and basketball at Waupun High School.
In 1949 Jim married Dorothy Searle with whom he had 4 sons: Daniel, Kim, Michael and Kris. Jim loved people and was a great conversationalist. He put these talents to use working as a salesman for several shoe companies including 25 years with Wolverine World Wide. Dorothy preceded him in death in 1976.
In May 1985 Jim Married Kathi Dial Dratz. This blended 3 additional children and their families to Jim's life: Steve, Julie Dratz Seemann and Rick Dratz. Jim retired from sales in 1989. Since that time he held various part time jobs including his most recent being an elementary crossing guard which he enjoyed very much. Jim also enjoyed hunting, fishing, garage sales, grocery shopping, and card playing and helping others. Jim was also an avid Packer fan and attended the Ice Bowl.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathi, sons, Daniel (Gina) Helf, Appleton; J. Michael (Kari) Helf, Darboy; J. Kris Helf, Green Bay. Stepchildren, Steve (Jane) Dratz, Wheatridge, CO; Julie (Ken) Seemann, Oskaloosa, IA; Rick (Karla) Dratz, Eagan, MN; 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Siblings, Janet (Ray) Borree, Kaukauna; Nancy Peterson, (Hank, deceased), Savannah, GA; Jerry Helf, (Sheri, deceased), Appleton; Tom (Judy) Helf, Kaukauna; Richard Helf, (Belle, deceased), Kaukauna; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Kim Helf, and an older brother, Robert Helf.
Family and friends may call at Valley Funeral Home Wednesday, July 18, 2012, 5-8pm and Thursday, July 19, 2012 9:30 am until the service at 10:30 am with Rev. Dick Schaefer officiating.

Janet L. Borree, Kaukauna, age 89, died Tuesday June 23, 2015 at Appleton Medical Center. She was born in Kaukauna on March 25, 1926 to the late Richard and Selma (Weber) Helf. Janet married Raymond Borree at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Kaukauna on August 23, 1947. She worked as a medical transcriptionist at the Kaukauna Hospital for many years, until her retirement in 1992. Janet was an amazing cook and well known for her cream puffs, cabbage rolls and coffee cake. She enjoyed time spent at Crane Lake with her family.
Janet is survived by her husband of 67 years, Raymond; children: Rick (Marilyn) of Little Chute; Laurie (Patrick) Flynn of Darboy; and Sue (Casey) Rheinlaender of Keller, Tx; grandchildren: Matt and Erin Kovalski and Clayton Rheinlaender; brothers: Dick, Jerry and Tom (Judy) Helf; sister: Nancy Peterson; and sisters-in-law: Stella and Kathy Helf, Millie Beford and Irene Borree. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her brothers: Bob and Jim Helf; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Belle and Shari Helf, Hank Peterson, Elizabeth (Hugo) Deno, Otto (Alice), Herman (Alexia), Alfred, Wally (Caroline), Harry (Ruth), Rueben, Louis (Rose), Art, Ralph Borree and Bob Beford
