EARLY PIONEER DIES
Theodore Weyenberg, age nearly 95, died Saturday at the home of his son, H enry Weyenberg of L ittle Chute. Mr. Weyenberg has been residence of th at Village over 55 years having settled there in June, 1848. He came fr om Holland in that year with Rev. Fr. T.J. Vandenbroek, the early pione er priest who brought over thre e sail- ship loads of his country-men to p opulate the territory of Wisconsin. Mr. Weyenberg h as seen this secti on of the country grow from a dense wilderness to a beautiful cultivat ed re gion of farms. The wild rushing Fox of the early times has been harn essed into shape by innumerable factories and mills which line it's shor es on either side. Around his threshold has grown up one of the most remar kable families of modern days. His six sons, MARTIN, HENRY, GEORGE and JO HN of this town, and HENRY II, and CORNELIUS of Clay Center, Nebraska, a re the father s of 61 children----an average over 10 each. There's al so a number of great grandchildren, making his direct progeny over 70. A ll of his sons are living, but several of his grandchildren are dead.Mrs. Weyenberg died several years ago. The funeral was held Tuesday morni ng from St. John's Church by Rev. Fr. Knegtel. Mr. Weyenberg, although nea rly blind for a number of years, and partially deaf had been quite acti ve until about a year ago.

THEODORE WEYENBERG, whose agricultural operations in Vandenbroek township have covered a long period of years, is a good, practical farmer and a worthy representative of one of Outagamie county's old and honored families. His grandfather, Theodore Weyenberg, was born July 26, 1810, in Noordtproven, Holland, and came to the United States with his wife, Mary (Hendrix) Weyenberg, and seven children: Martin, Henry, William, John, George, Hank and Cornelius. Theodore Weyenberg first settled in Brown county, but after one year came to Outagamie county and settled in the township of Kaukauna, becoming a large land holder in that part that is now known as Vandenbroek township, where he died November 18, 1903. His wife, who was born May 3, 1803, died December 7, 1883. George Weyenberg, father of Theodore of this sketch, was born September 4, 1840, in Holland, and just remembers attending the schools of his native land. He was about eight years of age when he accompanied the family to this country, and attended the district schools in the neighborhood of his father's farm, on which he worked during the summer months, while working in the northern woods in the winters. On February 11, 1868, he was married to Mary Gloudemans, who was also a native of Holland and a daughter of Martin Gloudemans, and after his marriage resided on his father's farm for two years. He then purchased the land which he is now operating, and which he has developed from a wild, unimproved property with no buildings into one of the finest farms in the township. During the first fifteen years that he resided on this tract, he lived in a little log cabin he had himself built from logs cut on his own property, but he now has a modern, substantial residence, in addition to good barns and outbuildings. He and his wife had thirteen children, namely: Theodore, Mary, Peter, Annie, John, William, Henry, Nellie, Katherine, Rose, Hattie, Dora and George, of whom John, Henry and Dora are deceased. Mr. Weyenberg is well known to the citizens of Vandenbroek township, and has served as school clerk for twenty years. He and his wife are members of the St. John's congregation of the Catholic Church of Little Chute and are highly esteemed by all who know them.

Theodore Weyenberg was born December 20, 1868, on the old homestead, and he received his education in the district schools of the neighborhood, his boyhood and youth being spent in work on the farm with the. exception of seven winters, when he was employed in the northern Michigan woods. In 1894 he was married to Georgiana, Jansen, who was born in Vandenbroek township, January 1, 1874, daughter of Mathew and Anna (Harchiss) Jansen,. and received her education in the neighboring district schools. After his marriage, Mr. Weyenberg bought the farm which he is now operating, and through hard and unremitting effort has brought it into a high state of cultivation. He has greatly improved the buildings, has fenced his farm neatly, and now ranks high among Vandenbroek township's substantial farmer-citizens. He and his wife are devout members of St. John's Catholic Church of Little Chute. They have had nine children, of whom two died: Mary, whose death occurred in infancy, and Gertrude, who passed away when two years old. The survivors are: George, Annie, Mary (II), Rose, Mathew, Dora and Hattie. Mrs. Weyenberg is also of Holland descent, her parents having come from that country in 1865 and settled in Outagamie county.

Biography:
Martin Weyenberg, farmer and mill owner, was born in Holland on March 0 9, 1834, when 15 years of age, he accompanied his parents, Mr.and Mrs.Theo dore Weyenberg to America, stopping first at De Pere, Wisconsin and then m oving to Little Chute, same state, where the family still resides, where m embers of the family were employed by the Green Bay and Missisippi Land Co mpany, digging the canal. When about 18 years of age Martin Weyenberg we nt to work as a Filer in a saw mill at Big Saumico, and rose rapidly in th is mill, finely becoming head sawer. Martin was not satisfied to remain th ere. His ambition pictured a farm all of his own, and he started out to se cure it. Arriving at Big Saumico, he was so prepossessed with the count ry that he located there and he remained there until 1856, when he mov ed on to his present farm in the town of Kaukauna. Five years previo us to this, he took himself a wife, in the person of Miss. Ellen Maria Hay den, who died June 13, 1874. She was the daughter of Mr.and Mrs.Silas Hayd en, originally of New Hampshire, where Mrs.Weyenberg was born. Shortly aft er his wife's death, he accepted the position of buyer of Hub Timber for C aptain Clark, of the pier. He continued this for some time, and then enter ed the employment of Peter Rider Hub and Spoke Company, at Kaukauna, and a fter the lumber was exhausted at that point he was transferred to Rice La ke for the same company. In the mean time he became a stock broker in t he old homestead, which was being operated by his son. He served as an ass essor of Kaukauna Township for 15 consecutive years, and was Chairman f or the Township Board, and also Vandenbroek Township. The Weyenberg fami ly originally consisted of nine children: Mary Ellen, born May 5, 185 6, is the wife of Charles Rohrer of Evanston, Lizzie Maria was born Janua ry 2, 1859 and is married to Willy Smith, by whom she has three children ( they now make their home in Julian, California). Susan was born June 16, 1 861, is the wife of James Strong (they have two childrenand reside in Bl ue Earth City), Hallie Frances, born April 2, 1863, was married to Hart Mo ritz, four children composing their family (their home is at Apple Cree k, Outagamie), William Henry the eldest son, was born February 26, 1865, m arried Katie Joosten, and they live on the homestead with his father, Ann a, born April 3, 1867 was married to Peter Peters, and died in 1887, Cathe rine Louisa, born April 5, 1869 is married to Peter Beelen, and they ha ve one child (they reside in Little Chute), Francis Henry, born July 28, 1 871, died in 1873, aged 2 ½ years, Ellen Maria , born March 22, 1874, is u nmarried.Mr. Weyenberg is an excellent farmer and business man, combining the old c ountry thrift with the American push. He takes an active part in local pol itics, belonging to the Democratic Party, who have continuously elected h im to various offices. He was supervisor for Kaukauna one year, assessor n ine years, and at present writing is chairman of the township Boar d. He is an honored member of Little Chute Parish Roman Catholic Churc h, in which faith he has carefully reared his children. He is an intellige nt and agreeable conversationalist. And is popular among his neighbors a nd acquaintances

Obituary:
Martin Weyenberg, aged about 74 years, died November 27, 1908, at his ho me in the town of Vandenbroek. He was in Appleton that morning and appear ed in first rate health. In the afternoon he was preparing a horse pow er to cut feed on his farm, when he suddenly was afflicted with heart dise ase and fell over dead. Mr.Weyenberg was one of the oldest settlers of Out agamie County, coming here in 1847 with father Vandenbroek from Holland. H is wife has been dead for 33 years. He leaves one son and five daughters a nd several grandchildren; he leaves four brothers as follows, Cornelius a nd Henry of Nebraska, George of Kaukauna and Henry of Little Chute. Mart in Weyenberg of this city is a cousin of the deceased. His farm is on t he bluff of the Fox River west of Kimberly station on the interurban. On t his homestead lived upward for fifty years. Mr. Weyenberg represented t he town of Kaukauna and later the town of Vandenbroek on the County Boa rd all the past fifty years. He was highly respected, a broad minded m an of sterling qualities and had the confidence of the community. The fune ral of this old pioneer was held from St.John's Church on Tuesday morni ng at 9 AM and was very largely attended.

Martinus died 28 nov.19 08 in Little Chute, and was buried there.

SOURCE: TILLY HELBERS-WEIJENBERG Hendricus first name in America was Henry, and last name is written as Weyenberg. Henry set up three of his five sons in business. Henry had a lot of money (we do not know what he did for a living) and owned extensive property. He sets one son up in a tavern, Duces Bar, and another in a meat market, Weyenberg's Meat Market, next door to it, the other son went into Weyenberg's Grocery and the fourth worked in the meat market before moving to Kimberly.


From Mike Northway;The Henry G. Weyenberg I speak of is:The son of Theodore. Henry G. was born Sept 6, 1845 in Buegen and died 28 March 1921. He was married twice. First to Anna Bergmans, the daughter of Peter Bergmans and Theodora Hartjes. They married 2 Sept, 1872 in Little Chute. Anna died 1 December 1900. He then married Elizabeth Carney (the former Mrs. Peter Shafer) on 15 Oct 1902 in Little Chute. She died 15 August 1912 in Little Chute.I am going to guess that you had this Henry and may not have realized he Remarried. From what the records I have and what I have been told, this Hen ry was a rather well known business man in the area. His children were a ll in business due to his "money". Duce Weyenberg owned a bar. One son own ed a Meat market and one owned a Grocery.I am mostly interested in second marriage, but also have an interest in h is first due to the Hartjes connection. His second wife, Elizabeth(Mrs. Pe ter Shafer), is the person who was supposed to meet my grandmother when she arrived on the Orphan Train in Oct of 1902. The way it looks is that Henry made her a better offer. One of marriage if she did not take this child. It had been arranged through the church(St. Johns) and sisters at the New York Foundling Hospital, that she receive this child.My mother and siblings, and actually my grandmother, all believed that the "lady" who was supposed to take her from the train was sick the day the train came. I ahve only recently uncovered that Elizabeth and Hnery were at the courthouse that very same day, applying for a marriage license. They married less than two weeks later. Both Henry and Elizabeth were probably too hold to take this child, he was 57, and she was almost 56. As it turns out, Elizabeth died only 10 years later. My great grandfather, Albert Hartjes, was at the depot the day the train arrived, because he and his brothers were memebers of the Little Chute Coronet band. The band was there to greet the train that day. Long story short, he ended up taking her home and lived untill 1966. She ended up in great home. I am not so sure she would have had Elizabeth been there to greet her. She would whave been made a Orphan again in 1912. Since you say you have a very long list of Weyenbergs, is there any one you know of that may possess a picture of him?

Biography:
WILLIAM WEYENBERG, who has carried on agricultural pursuits in Outagamie county, Wisconsin, for many years, is now the proproprietor of an excellent dairy farm of 100 acres, located in Grand Chute township. He was born in what is now Vandenbroek township, Outagamie county, February 26, 1865, and is a son of Martin and Ellen (Hayden) Weyenberg, the former born in Holland, March 9, 1834, and the latter in New Hampshire in 1841. They were married at Big Suamico, Wisconsin, in 1853. Mr Weyenberg had come to America when he was fifteen years of age, and the family had located at Lapeer, later moving to Little Chute township, where members of the family were employed by the Green Bay and Mississippi Land Company, digging the canal. When about eighteen years of age Martin Weyenberg went to work as a filer in a sawmill at Big Suamico, and rose rapidly in this mill, finally becoming head sawyer. On coming to Little Chute township, he purchased a farm, and this he continued operating until his wife's death, June 13, 1874, at which time, or shortly thereafter, he accepted the position of buyer of hub timber for Captain Clark, of the Peer. He continued this for some time, and then entered the employ of Peter Rider Hub & Spoke Company, at Kaukauna, and after the lumber was exhausted at that point he was transferred to Rice Lake for the same company. In the meantime he had become a stockholder in the company. When the lumber had given out here, he retired from business activities and went back to the old homestead, which was being operated by his son, and there he died November 28, 1908. He served as assessor of Kaukauna township for fifteen consecutive years, and was also chairman of the township board, and held a like position in Vandenbroek township. He and his wife were the parents of nine children, as follows: Mary, the wife of Melvin Rohrer, engaged in the laundry business at Evanston, Illinois; Elizabeth, wife of William Smith, in the mercantile business at San Diego, California; Susan, the wife of James Strong, janitor of the University buildings, Evanston, Illinois; Harriet Frances, the wife of Reinhart Moritz, in the laundry business at Evanston; William; Anna, deceased, who was the wife of Peter Peters, in the oil business in Milwaukee; Katie, wife of Peter Beelen, employed in the paper mill in Little Chute; Francis, deceased, at the age of two years; Ellen, who married Reeder Shurman, a blacksmith of Los Angeles, California.
William Weyenberg attended the pubic schools of Little Chute township, to which he went until ten years of age, when, his mother having died the year before, and his father having left the farm, he took charge of the home place, and continued to operate it until 1906, at which time he purchased the old homestead of Mrs. Weyenberg's father, in Grand Chute township, and here he has continued to operate successfully ever since. He has 100 acres in a fine state of cultivation, and gives most of his attention to dairy farming, retailing his product in Appleton. He keeps on an average of twenty-five head of thoroughbred Holstein cows, which are pastured in excellent feeding fields. Mr. Weyenberg is a democrat, but he has never aspired to public office, his farming operations demanding all of his time and attention. He is a member of the Roman Catholic church at Little Chute, and holds membership in the Catholic Order of Foresters. On September 27, 1892, Mr. Weyenberg was married to Katie Joosten, born on the farm where she now resides, February 27, 1872, daughter of Joseph and Nellie (Van Laanen) Joosten, natives of Holland, the former born January 21, 1838, and the latter May 20, 1840. They were married at Bay Settlement, Brown county, Wisconsin, in 1861. After a number of years spent in agricultural pursuits in Brown and Outagamie counties, Mr. Joosten removed to Washington county, Oregon, in 1897, and there his death occurred, January 9, 1908. His widow survives him and makes her home there, at Forest City. They had a family of nine children: Elizabeth, deceased, who was the wife of Joseph Van Handel, a retired farmer of Grand Chute township; Frances, widow of Walter Bernards, residing in the state of Oregon; Anna, the wife of Anton Hermanns, an Oregon farmer; Mary, deceased, who was the wife of John Verhagen, a farmer of Grand Chute township; Jane, the wife of a Mr. Hermanns, of Oregon; Katie, who married Mr. Weyenberg; Martin, a farmer of Rudolph, Wood county, Wisconsin; Christina, who married Adrian Verhagen, of Chili, Clark county, a farmer; and Maggie, who married Walter Van Dyke, a farmer of Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Weyenberg have had five children; James Martin, born July 23, 1894; Ellen Marie, July 21, 1896; Joseph, August 24, 1898; Albert, September 15, 1900; and Frank, August 12, 1902.

William Weyenberg 76, Rt 3 Appleton, died at 10 o'clock Monday morning, after an illness of about four years. He was born February 26, 1865, and has operated a farm in the town of Grand Chute for 34 years. Survivors are the widow Catherine (Joosten) Weyenberg, one daughter Mrs.Ella Deiler, Evanston, three sons, Joseph and Albert, Appleton and Frank, Little Chute, 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Mary Rohrer and Mrs. Catherine Beelen, Evanston, and Mrs. Ellen Sherman, Los Angeles. He was preceded in death by his son James Weyenberg in 1929.

Biography:
HENRY WEYENBERG, a progressive and enterprising young agriculturist of Grand Chute township, Outagamie county, whose farm of seventy acres is in a high state of cultivation, was born in what is now the township of Vandenbroek, Outagamie county, Wisconsin, in November, 1878, a son of John and Mary (Johnson) Weyenberg, natives of Holland. John Weyenberg was born in 1837, and came to the United States in boyhood. He came to Wisconsin in 1849, and as a young man was chef in one of the leading hotels in Menominee for several years, but later purchased a farm, which is now located in the town of Little Chute, and here he continued to reside during the remaining years of his life, his death occurring in 1906. Mrs. Weyenberg survives him and makes her residence in Little Chute. They had a family of four children: Steenie, wife of Nicholas Hietpas, who operates the land adjoining that of Mr. Weyenberg; Jacob and William, farmers of Chippewa county; and Henry. Henry Weyenberg attended the schools in the village of Little Chute and lived at home until he was twenty-six years old, although at various times he worked out on farms of the surrounding vicinity. He then rented a farm from his father, which he operated until buying his present property, and here he has continued to operate in a general way, also raising some stock. His farm is excellently equipped, and his operations have been conducted along scientific lines, the latest machinery being used.
On June 9, 1903, Mr. Weyenberg was united in marriage with Katie Joosten, who was born in Vandenbroek township, February 24, 1882, daughter of Martin and Mary (Verhagen) Joosten, the former born January 27, 1832, and the latter January 26, 1842, both in Holland. They came to Outagamie county during the early fifties and engaged in farming, and both are now living retired in the village of Little Chute. They had six children: Francis, deceased; Mary, the wife of Henru Hietpas, a farmer of Little Chute township; Simeon, a farmer of Wood county; Martin of Grand Chute township; Katie, wife of Mr. Weyenberg; and John, living on the old homestead. Three children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Weyenberg; Johnnie, born May 21, 1904; Marie, born March 17, 1908; and Martin, born September 30, 1909. Mr. and Mrs. Weyenberg are members of the Catholic Church, and he is connected with the Catholic Order of Foresters. He is a democrat in his political convictions.

Obituary:
Henry Weyenberg, 77, retired farmer, died about 8 o'clock Saturday mornin g, at the home of his son, Frank, Route 1, Kaukauna, after a 4 months illn es. He was born November 21, 1877 at Little Chute.Survivors includes his widow, Cornelia "Katie" (Joosten) Weyenberg, two da ughters; Mrs. Jake (Maria) Lamers of Kimberly and Mrs. Norman (Cecelia) Va nder Heiden of Appleton, four sons, John of Little Chute, Martin and Raymo nd both of Route 3, Appleton and Frank, Route 1, Kaukauna, two brothers; J ake of Appleton and William of Boyd, and 16 grandchildren.
Henry died 27 nov. 1954 in Kaukauna.

HISTORY OF OUTAGAMIE COUNTY

Theodore Weyenberg was born December 20, 1868 on the old homestead, a nd he received his education in the district schools of the neighborhoo d, his boyhood and youth being spent in work on the farm with the excepti on of seven winters, when he was employed in the northern woods, in 18 94 he was married to Georgiana Jansen, who was born in Vandenbroek, Janua ry 1, 1874, daughter of Mathew and Anna (Harchiss) Jansen, and received h er education on the neighboring district schools. After his marriage, Mr.W eyenberg, the farm he is now operating, and through hard and inremitting e ffort has brought it into a high state of cultivation. He had greatly impr oved the buildings, has fenced his farm neatly, and ranks high among Vande nbroek Townships substantial farmer-citizens. He and his are devoted membe rs of St.John's Catholic Church of Little Chute. They have had nine childr en, of whom two died; Mary, who's death occured in infacy, and Gertrude, w ho passed away when two years old. The survivors are; George, Annie, Ma ry (II), Rose, Mathew, Dora and Hattie. Mrs.Weyenberg is also of Holland d escent. Het parents having come from that country in 1865 and settled in O utagamie County.
Theodore died in 1946.

George and William, 15 and 14 years old, and their s ister Mayme, 12 years old, were taken in by the Rudolph family, where th ey worked for their stay and keep. George H. Weyenberg 73, Little Chute, a member of the village board died Wednesday evening after a nine week illness. He served as Treasurer of board for 40 years and also operated a grocery store in Little Chute for 45 years. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Harry Valentyne, Kimberly; three sons, Henry, Florian and George, all of Little Chute; three brothers, Peter, Martin and Frank, all of Little Chute ; five sisters, Mrs. Charles Myerla, Holbrook, Neb. Mrs. Richard Peters, Kalamazoo, Mi. Mrs. Floyd Kessler, Appleton, Mrs. Lena Lucassen and Mrs. George VandenHeuvel both of Little Chute and 13 grandchildren.
George opened the first Grocery store in Little Chute. Weyenberg Grocery in Main street in 1912. The store was not only a grocery but also a meeting place for all the people from the village. They also had a gas pump in front of the store. The children of George and Mayme also helped out in the store. They also had a dog, Sport, who also was the mascotte of the store. In bad times, the customers could pay with strawberrys, eggs or potatoes. During the depression George helped a lot of people, some times people came in crying that they had no money to buy food, and these people never left empty-handed. They got potatoes, macaroni, sugar etc. George also gave out loans, and often they weren't paid back. During prohibition he sold sugar to the bootleggers, and made good money with it. George's sons ran the store later, until approx.1959.

James W. Weyeberg, 34, died Friday at his home at Potato Point after a sho rt illness. The survivors are the widow, Agatha West Weyenberg, two son s, Robert and Everett, three daughters; Dorothy, Margaret and Eileen, pare nts, Mrs. and Mrs.William Weyenberg, three brothers, Jospeh and Albe rt of Potato Point and Frank of Evanston, Ill., one sister, Mrs.Lee (Ell a) Dreiler of Evanston, Ill., Mr. Weyenberg was a member of the Holy Na me Society of St.Therese Catholic Church. The body will be taken from t he Schommer Funeral Home to the residence Saturday morning. SS. PETER AND PAUL'S CHURCH.

Catholicity, in Huntington county, dates back to the year 1838, when about a half dozen families, chiefly Irish laborers, were employed in the construction of the canal. The Rev. Julian Benoit was the first offerer of the holy Sacrifice of the Mass, on August 15, 1843, in the residence of the Roche family. After Father Benoit, Rev. E. M. Faller and Rev. John Ryan attended Huntington, as a station, regularly every three months. During this time, Francis Lafontaine, chief of the Miami Indian tribe, and his father-in-law, Rushville, donated a piece of ground, on which a small log church was erected. The chief Lafontaine died April 13, 1847, and was buried near the log church.
The first resident priest at Huntington was Rev. Dr. A. Schippert, native of the kingdom of Wuertemberg, and a convert from lutheranism. He lived in a rented cottage on Cherry street. He procured and laid out a new cemetery at the edge of town. His pastorate continued from March 1857 till August 1858, when on account of ill health he retired to Innsbruck, Tyrol.
His immeditate successor was Rev. Frederick Fuchs, a native of Munster, Westphalia. He came to Huntinton from Cincinnati. He immediately built a frame addition to the log church, and opened a school. He also erected a priest's house of brick, remarking that at last the "fox had found shelter." The number of families at this time was one hundred German and thirty-nine Irish and French families. After five years of successful labor, considerations of health brought about his removal to Klaasville. Rev. Martin Kink was pastor, from August to December 1863. Bavaria was his native country, to which he returned and where he died. In December, 1863, Rev. Jacob Mayer was appointed pastor. It was he who built the present church, a Gothic structure of brick, 142x58 feet. The cost of the building amounted to about $30,000, of which he paid ll but $9,564. After five years of indefatigable labors, he was transferred to Logansport, in August 1868. The next pastor was Rev. George Steiner, born in New Ulm, Bavaria, April 13, 1836. He gave the School Sisters of Notre Dame charge of the school; he completed the church spire and gave the steeple a clock; he furnished oil paintings of the fourteen stations of the cross, and in 1873, built a large and substantial school house of brick, together with a Sisters' residence at a cost of $17,000. He suffered with hemorrhage of the lungs and spent the winter of 1876 to 1877 in Florida, and spring and summer of 1877 in Minnesota to recover his health. In the meantime, Rev. J. H. Hueser, D. D., had charge of the parish. In January, 1880, he resigned as pastor and with his faithful friend, Rev. Julius Becks, went to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he died peacefully, on June 1st, of the same year.
The pastorate of his successor, Rev. J. H. Hueser, D. D., extends from January 1880 to August 24, 1906. During this time he paid off old debts in the sum of $14,238, and besides made repairs and improvements, aggregating $43,000. The improvements made were a new pastoral residence for $10,000, a main altar $2,300, a chime of three bells $1,350, frescoing of the church and renovation the same $6,000, an organ $4,000, ten stained glass windows from the Tyrolese Art Glass Company $5,140, tuck pointing brick work of church, and veneering the foundation $1,300, furnaces for the three buildings $2,500, cemetery of twenty acres $4,200.
The societies of SS. Peter and Paul's Parish are: St. Joseph's Society, since 1857, with a membership of seventy-one; the Archconfraternity of Christian Mothers, with 160 members; St. Aloysius Society, for Young Men, with forty-two members; the Young Ladies' Sodality, with 100 members; the Holy Angels' Sodality with eighty-eight members.
The following were assistants at SS. Peter and Paul's: Rev. William Geers, from August 1877 to February 1879, now a priest of the diocese of Marquette; Rev. F. S. Kunkler, from May 1879 till January 1880, later a member of the Congregation of the Most Precious Blood; Rev. Adam Buchheit, from June 2, 1890 till July 19, 1895, attending also to Andrews as a station, for three years; Rev. Bruno soengen, during six months, Rev. Francis P. Faust, from December 1895 to October 1897; Rev. Ignatius F. Zircher, from June 1902 till April 1905; Rev. Joseph Jagemann succeeded Father Zircher, and from October 1905, Rev. Robert Meyer, C. PP. S. served until the arrival of Rev. William B. Hordeman who remained until the appointment of Father Hueser's successor.
Rev. W. C. Miller was appointed pastor at SS. Peter and Paul's Church, on October 6, 1906, and holds this position at the present time.
The parish has 205 families, numbering 1102 souls. Five School Sisters of Notre Dame conduct the school, teaching the eight grades. The number of pupils is 177. The debt on the church property amounts to $1,789.

She was born June 6, 1927, in Stanley, WI, daughter of the late J acob and Anna (Barta) Weyenberg. She graduated from Appleton High Scho ol in 1945. She was employed by Appleton Wire Works for over 40 years. Dol ly married Lloyd (Jack) Miller in 1962 sharing 14 years together before h is death in 1976.She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and was a volunteer f or many years at St. Joseph Food Pantry. She always enjoyed getting togeth er with family and friends. In her younger years, Dolly was a gardene r, an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling and fishing with her husband.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.Preceding Dolly in death were eight brothers: Joseph, Edwin, Robert, Richa rd, John, Harold, Jerry and Rollin, three sisters: Sister Marian Frances W eyenberg, Eleanor Weyenberg and Lucy Montieth.Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 200 5, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Man Dies After Auto Accident John H. Weyenberg, Clintonville, Had Lived in Little Chute John H. Weyenberg, 58, route 3, Clintonville died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday from serious head injuries received in a two-car accident six miles north of Suring Monday noon. He died at an Oconto Hospital. His wife and a Pelican Lake couple died immediately as a result of the collision. Weyenberg was born May 21,1904 in the Town of Grand Chute. He is survived by three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday at St. John Catholic Church, Little Chute with burial in the parish cemetery. He was a former resident of Little Chute.

Weyenberg, Matthew T., To wn of VandenbroekAge 96, passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 22, 2003. He was bo rn in the Town of Vandenbroek on December 20, 1906; son of the late Theodo re and Georgiana (Jansen) Weyenberg. On September 16, 1936 he married Loui se Seegers in Darboy. She preceded him in death in 1946. He then married V irginia Kortz on November 27, 1948. They enjoyed over 50 years together a nd celebrated their golden anniversary in 1998. Matt worked at Thilmany Pu lp and Paper for seventeen years. He then operated a dairy farm in the To wn of Vandenbroek until his retirement in 1961. When he first operated t he farm he raised bees and made his own honey. Following his retiremen t, he continued living at the farm. Henry Weyenberg, age 98, Little Chute, passed away peacefully Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, at Parkside Care Center, surrounded by his loving family. Hank was born March15, 1914, in the Town of VandenBroek, son of the late Theodore and Georgianna (Jansen) Weyenberg. He married Florence (Bloy) Weyenberg on April 25, 1936, sharing 63 years of marriage until her death in December 1999. Their only son Roman A. Weyenberg also preceded Hank in death on August 6, 2006. Hank was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. He was employed by Kimberly Clark Corp. as a painter and in field service until his retirement in 1977. Hank enjoyed many years of retirement building his home in Little Chute using the many trades he learned throughout the years and sharing those talents with family and friends. Grandpa will be remembered for playing volleyball, marble game, sheepshead and swimming at their home on Lake Poygan. All of us will cherish the memories made annually at his birthday celebration at Van Abels in Hollandtown. We will miss our Grandpa!
Survivors include his seven grandchildren: Ken (Wendy) Weyenberg, Ted (Cindy) Weyenberg, Roman Weyenberg Jr., Sandy (Don) Miller, Gary Weyenberg, Terry Cotter, Sally Holzwarth; 14 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Jean (Hooyman) Weyenberg; sisters-in-law: Mabel DeGraves and Margaret Gresel; brothers- in-law: Leonard (Shirley) Bloy and Adolph (Charlotte) Bloy Jr.; many nieces and nephews and special godchildren.
Along with his wife and son, Hank was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Shirley (Stadler) Weyenberg, brothers and sisters: Mary Weyenberg, George Weyenberg, Ann (Weyenberg) Dercks, Mary II (Weyenberg) Van Dera, Rose (Weyenberg) VandenHeuvel, Gertrude Weyenberg, Matthew Weyenberg, Dora (Weyenberg) Hogan, Hattie (Weyenberg) Fox and Frances Weyenberg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012, at St. John Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine Street, Little Chute, with Fr. Jim Hablewitz officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. Thursday until the time of the mass.
A memorial has been established in Henry's name.
The family would like to thank Hank's dear friends Jeff and Diane VanAsten, Betty Wydeven, Alice Mignon, Katie Kuepper and John Gloudemans for their countless visits and time spent with him. Mr. Weycnbere moved from Kimberly to Detroit three years ago where he was employed by the Motor Products company. He was born at Little Chute. May 27, 1898. Surviving are tne widow; a (laughter. Mary Ellen, at home; a son, John, at home; three brothers, William, Henry, Little Chute; Sylvester. Detroit; a sister. Mrs. John Wydeven. Rudolph. Wis. Henry J.Weyenberg Locy was weeding in his garden on Wilson St. in the Village of Little Chute when once again his eyes focused on the large red brick house and farm across the field on the other side of the tracks. Even though his home on Wilson St. had a small barn garage, two cows and a large garden, the house was too small for his family. As he stood there he began to daydream about his life, and how he came to live in this house. He was born September 22, 1904, above his father's saloon, Main St., Little Chute (the builiding is still standing). Henry's father, John Weyenberg, died in 1908 at the age of 34 and mother, Mary Van Dommelen Weyenberg, died in 1914 at the age of 35. Henry was ten years old and a month after his mother's death, he was adopted by Bert and Louisa Locy, and came to live with them in this home. Henry's younger brother Sylvester, 8 years of age was adopted by Charley and Ann McGregor of Fon Du Lac. His older brothers, George 15, and William 14, and older sister Mayme 12, were taken to live with a farm family in Rudolph to work for their keep. Henry was very lonely without his family and cried himself to sleep often. He kept in touch with his brothers and sister all of his life.The Locy's had no children and at a young age, Henry did whatever work he could to make money. At the age of 15, he got a job at Thilmany's Mill in Kaukauna, which he walked to and from every day. For many years he worked the night shift. After 47 years, he retired In 1925 Henry married Geraldine Nelson in St.John's Catholic Church in Little Chute. Geraldine was not of age to marry, so her stepfather, Casey, adopted her and signed the permit. Geraldine was born August 31, 1907 in Kaukauna, one month after her father Charles Nelson died. Her mother, Elizabeth Gertz Nelson, later married Anton Casey Jansen of Little Chute. He had a daughter, Alice Christine, who was the same age as Geraldine. Alice is the great granddaughter of Arnold Verstegen, one of the first settlers of the village.In 1918, Geraldine's mother and Casey had a daughter and named her Mary Elizabeth. Geraldine's mother died in 1921 and left her with a stepfather, stepsister and a halfsister. Henry and Geraldine lived in Kaukauna for a while and they operated the saloon across the canal from the Thilmany Mill for a few years. Donald, Dorothy, David and Dolores were born in Kaukauna. Dolores was born in 1929, the beginning of the depression. Henry's check from the mill, at the end of the week, was less than $3.00. Henry moved his family to his stepparents home on Wilson Street in Little Chute. Dewain, John, Alice and Gerald were born there. In the spring of 1937, Henry convinced the owner of the farm, Honnaka (Anna) Derks, to trade the farm for his home on Wilson Street, plus cash. Henry didn't know much about farming and he had to keep his job in the mill, so he made an agreement with Fred VanHandel to work the farm on halves for a few years. The farm consisted of a barn, machine shed, pump house, horse barn, pig pen, chicken coop, and out house and a work shed, which stood behind the house and was filled with many hand tools, wooden buckets and bottles of every sort. The large two stories red brick house was built by John Derks in 1898. There is a date plate at the peak of the house on the Buchanon Street side. Cherry trees lined the yard on the east side, ten large Maples in the front, on the south, and a large driveway on the west. We use this space for playing ball. The house is built in a from of a cross and had two white wrap around porches and a large porch off the kitchen, with six rooms on the first floor and five rooms on the secons floor. Ten foot ceilings and hardwood floors were a big feature of the house. The largest room was the center room, with an outside entrance on the west. This room was our family and dining room. Many thresher meals were served in this dining room. Harvest time was a great time to socialize. The women in the neighborhood cooked and the men helped with the threshing. Thomas born in 1938, was the only one of eleven children born in the farmhouse. The year 1944 was an eventful one for the family. My oldest brother Don, joined the Marines in March and was in the invasion of Okinawa, in the fall. My oldest sister, Dorothy married Harold Bissing and had their wedding on the farm. In December of that year, my youngest sister, Mary was born. The only one of eleven children to be born in a hospital. My father sold the 80 acre farm to John Diedrick in 1950. He was still in debt, but the farm had served him well. Having been orphaned at a young age, he and Geraldine were able to feed, clothed, and give their children a Catholic education both grade and high school. They loved children and have 49 grandchildren and 82 greatgrand children. They both died in 1994. The farm had an outdoor theater on it for some time, and now is owned by the village of Little Chute were the Municipal Garage is, and the land is being developed for an industrial park. The house has been turned into three appartments.

Woods, Marie P. Age 96, of Appleton, passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 with her family by her side. Marie was born August 25, 1918 in Kaukauna, WI to the late John and Katherine (Weyenberg) Stoop. She married Earl Woods on November 4, 1944, and they lived their married life in Greenville, WI. Marie worked at Prange-Way for 25 years; she loved to go dancing with some of the many friends she met there. Marie was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Greenville and the Jolly Workers Homemakers Club for most of her adult life. She always had a big garden, was a talented seamstress and enjoyed flower arranging. Marie had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Marie is survived by her daughters: Mary (Phillip) Endter, Marge (Dr. Pat) Cousineau and Bonnie (Marv) Dorschner; sons: John (Jodi) Woods, Steve (Faye) Woods, Mike (Theresa) Woods and Patrick (fiancée Cheryl Schultz) Woods; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandsons; sisters-in-law: Helen Calmes, Joan Gitter, Alice (Richard) Van Handel, Kate (Richard) Seidler, Rita Woods, and Verdell Stoop; brother-in-law: Jim (Pat) Woods and friends: Joyce Schmidt, Gary Schumacher and Judy Schumacher.
