    Charles E. Sample, "Chuck", Appleton
    Age 81, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Theda Clark Medical Center. Charl es was born on January 5, 1920, in Green Bay to the late Charles H. and Je anette (Meidam) Sample. He married Dorothy A. Lindauer on June 27, 194 1, in Waupaca; she survives. Chuck played fullback for the Green Bay Packe rs in 1942 and 1945. He served his country in the United States Army duri ng World War II in France and Germany and was a longtime employee of the c ity of Appleton. He enjoyed handball, bicycling and was an avid fisher a nd hunter. Survivors include Dorothy, his wife of 59 years; his daughte r, Jeanette (Joseph) Benson, South Lyon, Michigan; his daughter, Marilyn ( Daniel) Romenesko, Willmington, Delaware; his son, Chuck (Ann) Sample, Gre en Bay; his son, Tom (Jan) Sample, Wrightstown; and his son, Bob (Lisa) Sa mple, Mountain, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Chas Sample, Katie Sample a nd Ryan Sample; and his cousin, Mildred Hollenback, Appleton. Funeral serv ices will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2001, at WICHMANN FUNER AL HOME, Appleton, with Deacon Bill Burke officiating. Interment wi ll be in Riverside Cemetery, Appleton. Friends may call at the Wichmann Fu neral Home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again Friday at the funeral ho me from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

    Professional Football Player. After graduating from West High School in Appleton, Wisconsin, he went to the University of Toledo. He played two years with the Green Bay Packers in 1942 and 1945. Charles E. Sample was a 205-pound fullback and linebacker for the Packers. In his two years with the Packers he rushed 59 times for a total gain of 257 yards, scoring 5 touchdowns. His football career was broken up by his Army service in France and Germany during World War II. He was a long-time employee of the City of Appleton.

    Thomas "Tom" Edward Sample, age 59, of Potter, formerly of Wrightstown and Appleton, died Friday, October 30, 2015 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
    Tom was born on November 9, 1955 in Appleton, son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Lindauer) Sample. He was a graduate of Appleton West High School, class of 1974. Tom served our country in the United States Marine Corp Ship to Shore mission in Vietnam from 1974 until his honorable discharge in 1976. He married Janet Holup on October 6, 1990 in Aniwa, Wisconsin. The couple just celebrated 25 years together. Tom continued his education at Fox Valley Tech in their Automotive Department. He owned and operated Sample Vending since 1996. Tom enjoyed rebuilding vintage Mercury boat motors, cars, and boats. He especially loved his family.
    Tom is survived by his wife of 25 years, Janet of Potter; their son: Ryan of Potter; siblings: Jeanette (Joe) Benson of South Lyon, MI, Marilyn (Dan) Romenesko of Wilmington, DE, Chuck (Ann) Sample of Suamico, and Bob (Lisa) Sample of Cecil, WI; father-in-law: Jim Holup of Antigo; two brothers-in-law: Glen Holup of San Antonio, TX and Steve Aerts of Two Rivers; nieces and nephews: Chas (Renee) Sample of Green Bay, Katie (Scott) Houle of Green Bay, and Nick Aerts of Two Rivers; great nieces, other relatives, their cats Comet and Rascal, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law: Beverly Holup, his sister-in-law: Nancy Aerts, and cats: Mittens, Tiger, and Calico.
    Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Wieting Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street in Brillion. Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 126 of Brillion.
    Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
    Memorial appreciated to the American Cancer Society .
