    Saunders, George H.George H. Saunders, Appleton, age 89, died December 1, 2005, with his fami ly at his side. He was born July 8, 1916, to the late Harvey Saunders a nd Sarah (Eastman) Saunders, in Manistique, Michigan. He graduated from Mi chigan Technological University in 1939. He was a chemical engineer, lab s uperintendent, project manager and business manager for Kimberly-Clark Cor poration from 1940 to 1977. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and presid ent of the Rotary Club. In retirement he enjoyed photography, trout fishin g, downhill and cross-country skiing, metal sculpting, and many trips to t he family cabin. He devoted himself to religious, human service and soci al justice concerns: as a Eucharistic Minister to the Appleton Medical Cen ter for 25 years, founder and chair of the Human Concerns Committee at S t. Thomas More Parish, and as a member of the Project Home Advisory Boa rd of the Salvation Army, the Board of the Salvation Army, the Justice a nd Peace Committee of the Green Bay Diocese, the Bishop's Synod for Commun ity, the Task Force for Emergency Shelter, and the Housing Partnersh ip of the Fox Cities. He helped organize the Noon Hour Philosophers at Tri nity Lutheran Church. He was given the Gaudium et Spes Award from the Cath olic Diocese of Green Bay and the Project Home Fire Station Award from t he Salvation Army. For more than 30 years, he attended a weekly bible stu dy group at Monte Alverno Retreat Center.George was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Kay L. Saunders. Geo rge is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann Mitchell and J im Everson, Milwaukee; Sara and Joseph Wahlquist, Kohler; three sons and d aughters-in-law, Bernard and Connie Saunders, Maple Plain, MI; Mark and Ka te Saunders, Waupaca; Daniel Saunders and Katie Kyndely, Ann Arbor, MI; th irteen grandchildren, Matthew and Chad Wahlquist; Todd and Erik Saunder s; Gregg and Ryan Saunders; Daniel, Matthew, Joseph and Laurel Hutchinso n; Kiera Durgan; Brion Berkley; and Amy Everson; six great grandchildre n, Alex and Gabriella Hutchinson; Benjamin and Jacob Hutchinson; Andraya S aunders; and Elle Durgan.The funeral liturgy will be at 4 pm on Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, at ST. THOM AS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 N. McDonald St., Appleton, with Fr. Gerald F alk officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 2 pm until t he time of the liturgy. Burial will be at 10 am on Tuesday, Decemb er 6, at St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, please make do nations to the Saunders Family Future Fund for Social Change. Checks c an be made to the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, ca re of the Saunders Family Fund.George will be remembered for his courage, boundless enthusiasm, big heart edness, and never-ending passion for social justice.
