    Michael KEELAN of this city, and an early settler of the town of Kaukauna is in a very serious condition from chronic troubles, and a recent hard cold he contracted. Physicians have entirely relieved the congestion from the cold, but his chronic ailments they say are beyond all help they can give him, other than something of a temporary nature.

    Michael Keelan died Monday, born 10/16/1834 at County Monahan, Ireland, ca me to the US as a young man, settled in Vermont, and later went to Cana da where he married. Came to Wisconsin in 1865 settled in Snyderville, lea ves a wife and 4 children. James Keelan of Kaukauna, Mary , Mrs Jos Cla rk of DePere, John Keelan of Neenah and Ben at home.
    1908 Kaukauna Times dated 1/17/1908Michael Keelan, aged 74 resided here 5 years, previuosly resided in Snider ville. Moved with his parents to the United States, settled in Vermont, th en to Thiel, Wellington Co, Canada, where in 1861 he married Sarah Donnell y. They moved to Kaukauna in 1865. 11 children, 6 of them buried in Snider ville, one in Canada. Surviving are Mrs Mary Clark of DePere, John of Neen ah, James of Kaukauna and Benjamin at home. Also two sisters, Mrs. John Ho olihan of this city and Mrs Mary Gerrity of Kaukauna. Brothers Barney of A ntigo and Peter and James of Kaukauna.

    Biography:
    JAMES D. KEELAN, a well-known farmer of the town of Kaukauna, was born February 29, 1864, in Canada. Michael Keelan, his father, was a son of James Keelan, and both were natives of Ireland. The family immigrated to America in 1840, first settling in Vermont, where they engaged in agricultural pursuits. Later the home of the family was established in Canada.. Michael Keelan was born in 1833, and was one of a family of seven children. Upon the death of his father, James Keelan, he came with his widowed mother, whose maiden name was Mary Mohan, to the United States in 1865, and se tled in Wisconsin. Here his mother died in 1885 at seventy-six years of age. Michael Keelan married Sarah Donley, a native of Toronto, Ontario, and they walked north from Kaukauna to the McCabe farm and purchased land upon which they erected their first home, a log cabin. Their land swas heavily timbered, but this was eventually cleared by hand. In the course of time the rude cabin was replaced by a more modern one; economy enabled them to procure utensils befitting the times, and they gradually prospered in material welfare and in the esteem of their neighbors.In 1902, Mr. and Mrs. Keelan moved to the city of Kaukauna, where Mr. Keelan died in 1907, aged seventy-four years, and is yet survived by his widow at the age of sixty-seven. They were the parents of ten children, four of whom are now living, viz.: James D., Mary, John A. and Bernard J. James D. Keelan, the subject of this sketch, received all his scholastic training in the Dent School, at Snyderville. He remained on the home farm until twenty-three years old, then married Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph and Rose (Delima) Houle. The parents of Mrs. Keelan came from Canada to Brown county, Wisconsin, in the '50s, and both died in 1906, the father aged seventy-seven and the mother seventy-one. James D. Keelan bought land near the old homestead after his marriage, but one year later moved to Oshkosh, where he worked at his trade of carpenter six years. He then returned to Outagamie county, and has since resided on his present farm. Mr. Keelan has held several town offices, among which were supervisor four years, treasurer six years and school clerk nine years. He and his wife are the parents of eight children: Rose, James, Arthur, Elizabeth, Sarah, Earl, Henry, Ruth and Camilla. The family belong to St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church at Wrightstown.

    MIDDLETON - Rose Clare (nee Keelan) Hanrahan, age 83, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005. She was born on June 27, 1921, in Milwaukee, to parents Earl S. and Anna (Kieferle) Keelan. She proudly served in the Woman's Army Corps in WWII. Rose Clare married Kenneth F. Hanrahan on January 25, 1944, in Milwaukee. Together they operated the West Allis Fish Market for 40 years. She was a loving mother and was forever devoted to her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; children Mark F. (partner Abbie Povletich), John D. (Susan), Thomas K. (Caprice), Daniel J., William E. (Anne LeGare) and Catherine Hanrahan (partner Debbie Rivera); 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Robert P. and Gerrard, brothers; Father Daniel Keelan and Robert Keelan Sr. and sister, Doris Feiertag. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2115 Rowley Avenue, Madison, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your favorite charity.
