Obituary:
Eathen E. Brewster, 68, 400 W. Division St., Kaukauna, died at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday after a long illness. He was born in Kaukauna June 29, 1892 and lived there all of his life. Mr. Brewster belonged to the American Legion for 41 years and was a past Commander. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society and International Association of Machinists and Local 147. He was an alderman of the First Ward for many years and was a Secretary of the Utility Commission for 18 years. Mr. Brewster was a Trustee of the Holy Cross Church for thirty years. He was a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include his widow, Emelia; four daughters, Miss Geraldine Brewster, Mrs. Joseph Bergeron, Miss Florence Brewster, Miss Margaret Brewster, all of Kaukauna; three sons, Robert, Saginaw, Mich., Francis, Sun Prairie, Wis., and James, U.S. Army in Maryland; a brother, Michael, Appleton.
Four sisters, Mrs. John Bowers, Appleton, Mrs. Dorothy Rieth, Granada Hills, Cal., Miss Oniska Brewster, Los Angeles, Cal., Miss Marge Brewster, Laguna Beach, Cal., and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 Thursday morning at Holy Cross church, Kaukauna, with burial in the Holy Cross cemetery. Rev. Andrew Quella will officiate. Mr. Brewster will be accorded full military honors.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Fargo Funeral Home, Kaukauna with Rosary at 8 p.m.

Mary E. Miles (nee Kriess), 103, died Thursday, April 21, 2011, at St Elizabeth Hospital. She was born in Appleton, August 3, 1907, a daughter of the late William and Bess Kriess. Mary married Kirk L. Miles on June 27, 1934. Mary graduated from Appleton High School in 1926. She graduated from Lawrence University in 1930. During that time she was a piano student at the Lawrence Conservatory, a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, and past president of the Alumni Association. After graduation, Mary was a librarian at Appleton Public Library. In her later years, she did substitute work at the library. She was also a librarian at the Heritage for nine years. Mary was an active member of First Congregational Church for over 89 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher, and church school pianist. She was a church circle member for 25 years. In her earlier years, Mary had been active in both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
Mary is survived by two children, son, Peter (Mary) Miles, Appleton, and daughter, Marti (Richard) Ward, Woodbury, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Sarah) Miles, Appleton, Kelly (Brian) Miles, Scottsdale, Arizona, Karen (Ronald) Jahnke, Neenah, Linda Srnka, De Pere, and Charles (Sharyl) Glaser, Littleton, Colorado; eight great-grandchildren, Jennifer Keddell, Michael Keddell, Kaylee Glaser, Dalton Glaser, Alexander Miles, Madison Miles, Miles VandenHeuvel and Ava VandenHeuvel; She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Kirk, her daughter, Mary Lee Darling, two brothers, James Kreiss, and William Kreiss, sister, Evelyn Monteith; two sons-in-law, Don Glaser, and Joseph Darling; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kreiss, and Kathryne Kreiss; and a brother-in-law, Ray Monteith.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2011, at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 724 East South River Street, Appleton, with Rev. Jane B. Anderson officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the hour of service. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

John A. Bowers, "Jack," age 92, of Appleton, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born June 13, 1914, in Ripon, Wisconsin, the son of the late John and Lila (Brewster) Bowers. On August 31, 1940, Jack was united in marriage to Mercedes "Mercie" Hassmann, sharing 66 years together. Jack was employed by Zwicker Knitting Mills for 42 years until his retirement. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Navy on PT Boats in the Pacific. Jack was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of Appleton VFW Post #2778.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Mercie; three children: Susan (Patrick) Doherty, Sherwood; John (Kim) Bowers, North Carolina; Mary Jo (Robert) Steckelberg, Menominee Falls, WI; a brother Robert Bowers, California; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a daughter Sally Schaefer and three brothers: Al, Howard and Glen Bowers.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday (today) at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 410 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with Fr. Larry Abler officiating. Geraldine Molda, age 93, of Appleton, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at Appleton Medical Center. She was born on September 5, 1920, in Kaukauna, the daughter of the late Eathen and Emelia (Jennick) Brewster. Geri attended Holy Cross Catholic School and graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1938. On April 13, 1972, she married Walter Molda at St. Paul Catholic Church in Combined Locks. Geri was a faithful member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Appleton. She retired from Thilmany after 40 years of employment. Wally and she were avid travelers and enjoyed traveling the country. Colonial Williamsburg was their favorite place to visit. They were very involved with the ABC Program in Chicago. Geri was a very talented seamstress.
Geri is survived by her sister, Florence Brewster of Kaukauna; brothers: James (Dolores) Brewster of Piedmont, California and Francis Brewster of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and dear niece, Sue Bergeron of Kaukauna. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews along with their families. Geri had many special friends, Ed and Linda Heyes, Becky and Wayne Schmalz, Shelly Tauber, Sheila Duffy and Jerry Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wally Molda; sisters: Mary (Joseph) Bergeron and Margaret Brewster; brother, Bob (Mary Ellen) Brewster; and nephew, Bob Bergeron.
The funeral liturgy for Geraldine will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDonald Street in Appleton. Fr. Gerald Falk and Fr. Bob Vandenberg will be officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Appleton. Brewster Sr., Robert E.
Robert E. Brewster Sr. died on Friday, March 30, 2007, in Jackson, MI. Bob was born in Kaukauna on November 18, 1925, the son of Eathen E. and Emilia (Jennick) Brewster. He was preceded in death by Mary Ellen (Capeling), his wife of 35 years. He was a graduate of Kaukauna High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and served with the 1st Division in the Pacific for four years during World War II. He was retired from Consumer Power Company after 36 years of service.
During his retirement he enjoyed making many trips to the western states and Alaska with his brother to fly fish and photograph the sites. Besides his hobby of photography, Bob loved family gatherings with his children and siblings, where he was always in demand as a gourmet cook.
Bob is survived by three children: Col. Robert E. Jr. (Sharon), Alexandria, VA; Philip J. (Betty), Sleepy Hollow, IL; and Jennifer J., Jackson, MI. He is further survived by three grandchildren: Jessica, Zachary and Bobby; three sisters: Geri (Walter) Molda, Appleton; Florence and Margaret, Kaukauna; brothers: Francis, Colorado Springs; James (Dolores) Piedmont, CA; a niece, Sue Bergeron, Kaukauna; other nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his wife's brothers and sister: Phillip (Faith), Peter (Sue) and Suzanne (B.A.) Seymour, all of Michigan.
Besides his wife, Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary H. Bergeron, brother-in-law, Jos. C. Bergeron; nephew, Robert J. Bergeron.
The concelebrated Mass was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3 at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Jackson with interment at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. A memorial has been established in Bob's name at 1000 Islands Environmental Center.

Margaret Brewster, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, following a brief illness. Maggie was born in the home she currently resided in on July 18, 1932, daughter of the late Eathen and Emilia (Jennick) Brewster. As a young girl, she attended Holy Cross School in Kaukauna and at Kaukauna High School developed a love for art. She attended University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley and University of Wisconsin-Madison where she continued her study of art, but was called home before graduation due her father's illness. Margaret began work as a graphic artist at the Locks Mill, but always kept up her painting. She retired from the mill in 1990.
Maggie became a renowned artist throughout Wisconsin, and was best known for her watercolors, oils, and portraits. She exhibited and sold her work all over North America, including the Milwaukee Museum of Art, Minnesota Capitol Rotunda, Hardy Gallery in Ephraim, Neville Museum, Weidner Center, and Lambeau Field Atrium in Green Bay, and in Pike's Peak, Colorado. She is listed in the Who's Who in American Art, and was instrumental in beginning Kaukauna's Creative Art Group. She also chaired the art show at Thousand Islands Nature Center for almost twenty years.
Margaret was a member of the Friends of Thousand Islands, Kaukauna Historical Society, Kaukauna Creative Arts Group, Bay Area Watercolor Guild, Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors, National Museum of Women in the Arts, and 1000 Friends of Wisconsin.
She leaves behind two sisters: Florence Brewster of Kaukauna and Geri Molda of Appleton; two brothers: Francis Brewster of Colorado Springs and James (Dolores) Brewster of Piedmont, California. There are also four nieces: Sue Bergeron of Kaukauna; Elizabeth (Kevin) Stover of Evanston, Illinois and his daughter Emily; Jennifer Brewster of Jackson, Michigan; and Julie Brewster of Colorado Springs and her daughters Christina and Alicia. Her six nephews are: Robert (Sharon) Brewster, Jr. of Alexandria, Virginia and their son Bobby; Philip (Betty) Brewster of Sleepy Hollow, Illinois and their children Jessica and Zach; James A. Brewster Jr. of Oakland, California and their daughter Lauren; Rick (Debra) Brewster of Green Mountain Valley, Colorado and their sons Jason and Alex; David (Beth) Brewster of Brownsville, Minnesota and their daughters Payton and Sawyer; and Joe Brewster of Minneapolis.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, a sister: Mary (Joseph) Bergeron; a brother: Robert (Mary Ellen) Brewster; a sister-in-law: Nancy Brewster; a brother-in-law: Walter Molda; and a nephew: Robert Bergeron.
The funeral liturgy for Maggie will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2011, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Mrs. Dick Rettler, Marjorie Mae Rettler, 80, Appleton, passed away on October 12, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family. Margie, daughter of Michael and Zella Brewster, was born February 21, 1931 in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and graduated from Appleton West High School in 1949, along with future husband Dick Rettler. They were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church on June 30, 1951 and spent sixty years of married life together. Margie was proud of her "Career" in retail sales, and the dress department was her special love. She had very fond memories of time spent at Prange's, "Just Petites," and "Karnibys in the Paper Valley." Margie volunteered many hours during her lifetime, including eight years at St. Pius Grade School, assisting Inez Getshaw, RN, with the special education swim program. Also, she volunteered for three years at the Easter Seal Store in downtown Appleton. In later years, Marjorie was a long time member of St. Joseph Parish Senior Citizen Community. She also volunteered at the Appleton Public Library and worked at the polling booths during many local and national elections.
Margie loved the Packers, and thoroughly enjoyed going to the games over a span of 28 years. She and Dick, along with their children, Rorie and Rick, have fond memories of the Lombardi era; going to games at Lambeau Field was a family activity for many years. Margie also spent many summers at the cottage at Pelican Lake, Wisconsin with her family and relatives. She loved to fish for perch and play royal rummy.
One of Margie's biggest achievements was getting her driver's license. Once her children left for college, she took lessons at Fox Valley Technical School and was determined to pass her driver's test. Many times she would say "I love my driver's license." In all of her years of driving, she had a perfect record!
Margie loved the theater; she enjoyed going to productions at the Attic Theater and later the Appleton Performing Arts Center. She participated in productions during High School and at the University of Wisconsin-Menasha and later at the Thompson Center. She was enthusiastic when talking about being a part of the plays and spoke highly of all the friends she'd met. She truly valued her time at the Thompson Center - it was a very special place to her. While in High School she enjoyed her years as a cheerleader and senior year was voted co-captain. Marge too, was an adventurer; she traveled to Alaska seven times over a 22-year period to visit her daughter, Rorie and family. She was an avid reader and also loved to go gambling; the nickel slot machines were her favorite.
Margie is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Dick, Appleton; daughter Rorie and son-in-law, Rob Hammel, Girdwood, AK; son, Rick and daughter-in-law, Katie, Stevens Point; four grandchildren: Raina (Richard Segal) Hammel, Boston, MA, Ryan Hammel, Girdwood, AK, Ross Rettler, Stevens Point, and Chase Rettler, Platteville, WI; three sisters: Mary Carmen (Roger) Hermsen, Appleton, Fay (John) Kettenhofen, Appleton, Sarah (Roger) Wittman, Kimberly; brother-in-law, Fred Rettler, Appleton; and sister-in-law, Jean (Nick) Knauf, Neenah. She is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Zella Brewster and father-in-law and mother-in-law Harold and Laura Rettler.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on October 17, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 414 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with Father David Funk OFM CAP, officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass. A private burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Appleton Public Library or the Thompson Community Center of Appleton in Marjorie's name.

DUNLAP, IL - George Kreiss, 74, of Dunlap passed away on Friday, March 18, 2011, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.
Born on July 13, 1936, in Neenah, Wis., to James and Dorothy Kreiss; brother of Ann Zarnoth (James) and Karen Banks (Bill); and brother-in-law of Dean Mack (Patricia); he is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sandy (Mack) Kreiss; his three sons, James Kreiss (Julie Dubansky) of San Diego, Calif., Don Kreiss (Kristin) of West Bloomington, Mich., and Andrew Kreiss (Michael Lewis) of Los Angeles, Calif.; his daughter, Jennifer Campbell (Brian) of Sun Prairie, Wis.; and his five grandchildren, Emily, Kate, Abby, Perry and Lindsay.
George received a bachelor of economics degree from Beloit College, where he was also a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. It is there that he also met his wife and formed many lifetime friendships.
George's career was largely as an entrepreneur and fundraiser.
He and his partners formed Peoria-based P.F. Sales, a wholesale food brokerage. Later he became the executive director of the Community Foundation of Central Illinois.
A longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, he especially valued his time on the FUMC Foundation and as a member of the Irving School Buddy Program.
A lifetime lover of sports and music, George was an ever hopeful Chicago Cubs fan and an exultant Green Bay Packers fan.
But his greatest passion was his family. For them, George (Geejoe) was a source of wisdom, unconditional love, inspiration and laughter.

Bob Bergeron passed away on Friday, June 2, 2006, at the Appleton Medical Center, following a lengthy battle with diabetes. Bob was 60. Bob was born June 30, 1945, in Appleton, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Brewster) Bergeron. He was a graduate of the Kaukauna High School and Fox Valley Technical College. Bob worked at various auto parts stores in the valley, including Automotive Supply and NAPA Auto Parts. He was also a well-known writer and photographer at race tracks across the Midwest, and had had a weekly column in Checkered Flag Racing News. He was a rabid sports fan and traveled extensively to attend races and ball games. Bob was happiest on the infield of any track from Indianapolis to Daytona, and all the small tracks in between. He also fondly remembered attending the original "Ice Bowl" in Green Bay and walking across the parking lot to attend a hockey game at the arena the same day. When his illness no longer allowed him to travel, he kept up on sports through television and his computer. Bob was the "Answer man" for people across the country to contact with questions about auto racing.
Survivors include his sister: Susan Bergeron of Kaukauna; several aunts and uncles: Florence Brewster, Margaret Brewster, and Madylyn Bergeron, all of Kaukauna; Geri (Walter) Molda of Appleton; Jim (Juletta) Bergeron of Kimberly; Millie (Roger) Olm of Reedsville; Francis Brewster of Colorado Springs; Robert E. The funeral liturgy for Bob will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna, with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the entire staff at the Appleton Medical Center and the Parkside Care Center for the excellent care they provided Bob, as well as to Bob's good friend Brad. Brad's many visits and offers of assistance were always welcomed and appreciated.

Timothy John Kettenhofen, 54, of Appleton, passed away at his home on December 10, 2014 surrounded by family. Tim was born September 24, 1960, in Appleton, the son of John and Fay (Brewster) Kettenhofen.
Tim was married to Keena Allison on March 1, 1986. Together they have two children: son, Quinn Kettenhofen (19); and daughter, Bria Kettenhofen (17). Tim will be deeply missed by his wife; parents; children and his sister Amy Kettenhofen. Tim is further missed by numerous loving family and friends.
Tim was proud to have worked at Kimberly-Clark for 31 years as an electrical engineer. He was well respected and loved by so many that worked with him. Tim was also a passionate athlete, late model race car enthusiast and woodworker. Tim was proud to have worked as crew chief on several racecar teams, finally winning the 2005 FRRC Limited Model Championship with the Tom Spierowski (1) team. After finishing his racing career, Tim became more intently focused on running. In typical Tim fashion, he set goals and achieved them, eventually qualifying for the 2011 Boston Marathon, which he ran in 3:04. Wanting to test himself further, Tim also trained in biking and swimming so that he could eventually prepare himself for the 2013 Ironman Wisconsin, which he finished in 11:10. Pretty good for an older guy with brain cancer! Tim felt strongly that his successes could never have been accomplished without the support of family, friends, and coaches.
Tim is remembered fondly for his special way of doing things, his precise meticulousness, and his organization. He was an engineer after all! He was a man who could do almost anything and always excel at it.
Everyone who knew Tim is asked to celebrate his life in their own way; perhaps by raising a glass of Sam Adams. In addition, the family asks that you perform and unsolicited act of kindness in Tim's name.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at 11:00 AM, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, located at 724 E. SOUTH RIVER ST., in Appleton, with Rev. Stephen Savides officiating. Family and friends may visit with the family from 9:30 AM until the time of service.
