    Obituary:
Bender, Judy M. Combined Locks On Monday, December 8, 2003 at 8:30 p.m., Judy's spirit left her body to be made whole with God her Father in Heaven. So ended her life on earth, that began June 13, 1958, north of Appleton.
Judy graduated from Appleton High School West in 1976 and soon after married and had four wonderful children with Leroy Van Cuyk. While raising the children, she continued her education and went on to fulfill a life time dream of becoming a nurse. She graduated with honors from FVTC in 1992. Judy then spent 8 years working for Peabody Manor of Appleton. She started out as a floor nurse and ended her career as Acting Director of Nursing. After her "retirement," she continued to serve the community as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, establishing the parish nurse program in her church, and volunteering in area nursing homes.
She loved her church family of Christ the King. She especially enjoyed working with the youth, visiting the elderly, and the Tuesday a.m. Bible Study Group. She graduated in May, 2002, as a lay minister for the Evangelical Church of America. She felt called to serve others and spread God's Word. The Lord was her strength and her song.
Judy is survived by her parents, Richard Bender, Shawano; Shirley (Hy) Gehrt, Oshkosh; her children, Bill (Mandi Erickson) Van Cuyk, Little Chute; Joe, Tom, and Anna Van Cuyk, at home; her beautiful granddaughters, Stasia and Nikayla Van Cuyk, Little Chute; her children's father, LeRoy Van Cuyk; sisters and brothers, Pat (Don) Coonen, Appleton; Chuck (Nancy) Bender, Kaukauna; Donna (Dan) Dorn, Hortonville; JoAnn Bender, Freedom; Jeanne (Alan) Spoehr, Seymour; Larry (Dianne) Bender, Neenah; and stepsister, Stephanie (Dan) Immel, Appleton. She is further survived by many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Judy was preceded in death by an infant son, Benjamin Lee Van Cuyk, to whom she is now joyfully reunited.
The service celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, December 12, 2003 at CHRIST THE KING, 60l South Washington Street, Combined Locks, with the Rev. Steve Nelson, Rev. Bill Schroeder and Rev. Leslie Radius officiating. Friends may call at the church on Thursday, December 11, from 4-8 p.m, and again at the church on Friday from 11 until 12:45 p.m. The interment will be held in Union Cemetery, Combined Locks, at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy, a memorial fund for the children has been established. As Judy coordinated her funeral service and obituary, it was most important to her to extend the following acknowledgements: "A sincere thank you from my family and me to Dr. Guenther, Jan, and the entire staff of Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology, along with the oncology nurses at the Radiation Center, and Appleton Medical Center 3rd floor Oncology Nurses. Also a sincere thank you to Dr. Green for steering me onto the "right path," and to Dr. Messer, for being my "journey guide" and friend.
"Rejoice and be glad for me. I am pain free, at peace and have been made whole. I am home."
